Mugen Tux Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Heya. So I've seen some videos, and found that it's only 30 bucks, so I was thinking about trying it out. I've only played GG and BB with any real skill, so my question(s?) is: What do I need to know before I start P4A? What kinds of things are similar between them? And for that matter, what's the depth of complexity compared to BB and GG? Thanks in advance.
BeautyIsPower Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Evasive actions and dps on one button. Super armor overheads also. They kept the guilty gear good burst mechanic, and there are also the awakening modes (take less damage, gain meter and access to a strong super). The combo system feels quicker than in the other games, at least Blazblue. But I think it's around the same level of complexity as the other two.
Airk Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 One thing you will rapidly notice that's kinda weird about P4A is that each character has an extremely small number of "normals"; Often just standing A, crouching A, Jumping A, Standing B, Crouching B, Jumping B and that's it. They'll also have some "universal command moves" and some persona attacks (ranging from 3 to a "a lot") in addition to the regular specials, but the number of options available to a character at any given time is smaller than it is in BB/GG.
Mugen Tux Posted May 10, 2013 Author Posted May 10, 2013 Alright, thanks for the answers. Sounds pretty similar, so I'll give it a shot.
Celerity Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Honestly if you already have experience with BB/GG, transitioning won't give you any problems. P4A is a much simpler game. The matchups are dynamic, but there aren't as many of them, and a few of the characters have fairly linear playstyles. Character also have fewer options, as was mentioned. Additionally, it's probably the least neutral-heavy of the three games, with one side or the other under pressure for most of the round. Think GG momentum with BB speed. A few other things that are different: -Bursts refill fairly quickly and can be used as a combo tool. -If your persona gets hit, you'll lose a card. If you lose all of your cards, you lose access to most of your moveset for awhile. So you can't just throw out C/D attacks blindly. -Awakening mode, when your health gets to 1/3 you take less damage and get access to 50 meter + a new super move. You're going to have a lot of meter in this game, so you can RC and use EX moves quite often.
