Hecatom Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 Now, I just wait to see the fate of Robo Ky... If anything, I'm betting that PS3 version is the main version, and the PS4 port is a "port up", not unlike how most "cross-gen" titles are shaping up to be. Besides, I would think Arc would know better than to release a less than perfect port for where likely the majority of their audience will buy the game. I actually think that the PS3 version a downgrade, going by what we have saw on trailers and local test videos i really think that the version for the arcades wouldn't run at 60fps on ps3 or 360 without being downgraded. Remember, the UE3 is barely optimized for PS3 and practically all the games on UE3 run horridly on the current gen consoles.
TekkamanArk Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 I want to see Jam, Bridget, and some new characters for Xrd.

Crappy artstyles notwithstanding, it and MK9 are actually solid examples of how UE3 can be modified to run at 60fps. And of course, it is a much more feasible task when you only have to worry about two characters and some background objects on a "2D" plane. Additionally, we are talking about the same arcade hardware that powers the likes of Phantom Breaker and UNIB, so I doubt that was really pushing the RE2 to its limit.
9TNine Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 (edited) I kinda want to see how detailed they'll make I-No's guitar. Considering the level of minute details on the characters, Daisuke wouldn't miss the chance to detail the guitar how he wants No changes. They even kept her mole (Shiina had hers removed, so I wondered if I-No would too). -9 Edited September 9, 2013 by 9TNine
Amadeus46Art Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 Pictures confirm Jam OH GOD I HOPE THIS IS REAL. DON'T TOY WITH MY HEART SUZAKU. Can't wait to see her in that 3D though. Cinematic Chokyaku Houoshou!?

Also the arcade hardware is more akin to the next gen consoles, if not a little more powerful. Yes UNIB doesn't take full advantage of the hardware, but i feel that GGXRd, at least the arcade version wouldn't run well on the current gen without making some compromise on the graphics department Edited September 9, 2013 by Hecatom
SolxBaiken Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 Cool trailer, also that's not OG Axl! He has no muscles! PS3/4 release is cool, but I'll probably have a 4 by then, all that's left is to wait for my lord and savior . . .
Malcopunch Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 I really hope Faust is revealed soon along with Jam and Eddie..that needs to happen
Seku Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 The tension gauge now has 4 segments, did it have that as well in the loketest? Now that I-no is in, I really don't want to imagine her without FRCs ;(
Luminos564 Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 OH GOD I HOPE THIS IS REAL. DON'T TOY WITH MY HEART SUZAKU. Jam was never really in danger of losing her slot. She's been a GG mainstay since, what, GGX? I figure it'd be more of a surprise if she DIDN'T make the cut in this one. Can't wait to see her in that 3D though. Cinematic Chokyaku Houoshou!? Man I don't even need to see her attack. Just her spinning-plate victory animation XD.

Tech-wise, there's nothing about XRD that really looks above beyond what the PS3 could safely do at 720p, while PS4 could push it farther to true 1080p. One of things that's always worth noting is that "good art != good tech". Remember how some people couldn't believe that Tatsunoko vs. Capcom was a Wii game, back in the day?

Indeed, good art != good tech, but i am not talking only about the aesthetics, for example GGXrd has a lot of morphing models, something that is not on IGAU or MK9, also RE2 supports DirectX 11 like the PS4, something that current gen consoles don't, you can expect a lot of stuff not transitioning if they are using the DX11 libraries, add the 512mb ram limit and you can get the picture. What i am saying is that don't be surprised if the PS3 version ends being inferior to the PS4/Arcade version.

Basically, what "good graphics" means when applied to a 2D sprite based game shifts when contrasted to what it means when applied to 3D model style games. Games going for photorealism such as Injustice are a different category and while you can contrast them with others of their kind to see if they hold up or not, I think it's comparing apples to oranges to contrast them to 2D spirte based games or in the case of Xrd games which go for a 2D sprite based look. I think Injustice and MK look like ass compared to current gen Tekken games and DoA5 too, games that it's more natural for them to be compared to. Now, if you prefer 2D style artwork of course you're gonna hate Injustice but to me even the ps2 Fate//Stay fighters look better than it because despite much lower technology, the aesthetic and style is epic and high class while Injustice looks generic as hell and just...simple minded low fantasy stuff that the people who don't tend to appreciate high fantasy anime aesthetics and fighting can enjoy. I mean, take Zod's super where he crushes through the moon, then go watch that Gurren Lagann episode where the moon attacks, you'll get what I mean.

Dreiko Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 Even without FRCs there should still be force breaks of some kind. The segmented gauge should be there. Hell, BBCT had a segmented gauge just because of Jin's D moves.

It was a really good move on ArcSys to go for the cel-shading, animation skip to harken back to 2D sprites, since it will be hard to compare it to anything else in the future. Games like KOFXIII, P4A and BBCP will still look amazing even 10 years from now, and Xrd will be no different.
9TNine Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 (edited) The segmented gauge is likely there just because that's nice to have. Even if they don't end up taking advantage of it I imagine it'd stay that way. IMO I-no's inclusion likely means she'll be getting a playstyle adjustment. Making CL cost 50% to cancel for combos is simply too much for her current format. Note needing %50 is OK if it has to be, as other characters with similar projectiles that aren't used mid-combo are in that same boat (gunflame, etc.). But CL is both a zoning tool AND a combo necessity. EDIT: Just noticed they spelled "Heaven" as "Heven". -9 Edited September 9, 2013 by 9TNine
Master Of Chaos Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 The Bitch in Red is back? Fun times ahead. Axl too yay~! I'm still waiting for Faust and Slayer. THEN I will be super hype.
CyberAkuma Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 Indeed, good art != good tech, but i am not talking only about the aesthetics, for example GGXrd has a lot of morphing models, something that is not on IGAU or MK9, also RE2 supports DirectX 11 like the PS4, something that current gen consoles don't, you can expect a lot of stuff not transitioning if they are using the DX11 libraries, add the 512mb ram limit and you can get the picture. What i am saying is that don't be surprised if the PS3 version ends being inferior to the PS4/Arcade version. And again, it all depends if they are indeed using DirectX 11. My hunch is that the answer is a "no", since they likely wanted to make for a game that could be safely scaled up and down, which feeds right into ASW's desires to likely/eventually port this game to as many places as possible. Remember, they were reportedly considering the Wii U and Vita on those exit polls at the beta test, after all! We already know that they're using quite a bit of wizardry in order to make for this "look", so I wouldn't be surprised if they spent all these years just so that it was designed to be comfortably scalable in this way, while also not "aging" that much by the time we get into the thick of the PS4 era. Basically, what "good graphics" means when applied to a 2D sprite based game shifts when contrasted to what it means when applied to 3D model style games. I mean, take Zod's super where he crushes through the moon, then go watch that Gurren Lagann episode where the moon attacks, you'll get what I mean.Oh, of course. The point I was just making was that what can be perceived aesthetically, is not always a reflection of how good the game may actually be technically. Take for example, the latest PS3 Atelier release: Would you believe me if I told you that game was rendered on the LTGL (Re: Dynasty Warriors) engine, of all things? And that it's all 3D? If this and XRD are the kinds of things that JP developers can do now in 3D, I may be finally ready to say goodbye to sprites...
Effenhoog Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 While it is probably inevitable, I will be sad if they cut any of the AC roster. It's looking pretty painful now too, since even though I play half the roster I would still have to reach pretty far down my list of side characters to find one in Xrd Perhaps it is time to try something new
Dreiko Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 Haha, yeah. Atelier games are awesome at cell shading. Also that vita game by the same artist, I forget the name but I think you may know what I'm talking about. There's this girl who's the focal point and it has management elements I think. To me the most beautiful game of all time is Okami so, yeah, I don't really mind the loss of sprites as long as the aesthetics keep their focus.

Game was made to last.
Solless Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 I am now wondering if Order-Sol will make it into the game? By the actual end of GGXX story, wasn't he sort of technically killed by Sol? I wanna see Dizzy. And Johnny.
