I'm really curious about the story of this game. Will it follow the current or is this straight up new plot line?

Depends what you consider the difference between current and straight up new. It's a couple years later so it's not like it's a direct continuation of where we left off in Overture, but it is the continuation of that plot. Pretty clearly so, since... Valentine, the Backyard etc are directly implicated.

Oh wait so overture (xbox only game) is a cannon story? I never really knew nor understood the entire story so I would like to know instead of being brain dead about it. I see I have some googling to do.

Those animated cutscenes.

They are going all out for this game

They REALLY are lol, I was thinking the same thing.

@kitsoru, thanks for the translations. I was curious about what they were talking about. So Sol has a plan to deal with Valentine's resurfacing and Ky is well aware fo it and plans to give Sol money for taking her down? Maybe we might finally see Sin, since he has been traveling again with Sol since at least Vastedge.

@50-50, yes Overture is cannon, in fact the XX story line is a gaiden/side story according to Daisuke, and GG1-GG2: Overture-GGXrd are the only main games (at least in terms of plot when it comes to story-fags like myself). There's videos of the game's story all over youtube, if you have any questions feel free to message me.

Yeah, it seems Ky intends to rebel against... the UN status quo, whatever the fuss in Vastedge and the prequel stories were about (perhaps Bardius and the Senate is somehow aligned with Valentine? Dunno how that would be possible, but...) and join forces with Sol to take them all down.

As for everyone else, it seems almost as if the Guild is returning to its roots? Maybe plans to get involved with the political mess? This is just my pure speculation, but since the Guild's original purpose was basically the root out corruption perhaps they intend to deal with the Senate as well. (Seeing Millia and Venom not going at each others' throat on contact makes me think there must be a shaky alliance for SOME reason, lol).

As for Sin, I'm hoping we'll see him, yeah... Maybe they stuck him at home to guard still-frozen Dizzy while Ky was off getting Sol, but perhaps she'll awaken and they'll all meet up along the course of the story. Who knows :V

I can't tell if Millia is being playful, or they're just teaming for convenience sake. Didn't they make up in one of Venom's AC endings?

Seems like Valentine would be the last boss since that clip of her with happy balloons looks an awful lot like the character intros. Plus it fulfills ArcSys Female Final Boss quota. That Bururaji clip was really cool with playing around with all the 3D angles in game, May's IK, and what looks to be cutscenes that are probably for arcade mode.

...considering in one of the snippets I saw Sharon's mouth moving... Does this mean Sharon gets a voice in this? :/

Care to explain what you mean about Ky rebelling against the UN status quo?

They did it by activating Astral Vision while Chipp clung to a wall.

And how did they get that weird angle to view the characters, it's probably the weirdest and coolest I've ever seen in GG, and that says a lot.

Since they're using 3D for everything now, literally all they have to do is change the camera angle. That's already what they do with Dusts, ODs, and the victories, so it was nothing special. Ishiwatari even said it was just to show the audience that it uses 3D models.

Yea I noticed the speed of the game also. I expect it to be a little faster around arcade time.

Well, as of Vastedge (and actually already the case pre-Overture, see his short story) the UN Senate is basically proven to be controlled by the PWAB and/or Bad People. Because Ky wants to make Illyria a haven for Gears like Dr Paradigm, Dizzy, and Sin by the end of Overture, and buck the traditional power structure that was held throughout the Crusades by the UN by proving things aren't totally black and white with regards to Gears, he's essentially now at war with the rest of the UN.

Let's also not forget that for everyone other than Sol and Ky and co, it's been 5 years since we've seen them. A lot may have changed with regards to Assassins etc.

Wow, can this character get ANY cooler? How did he prove the UN/rest of the world wrong about Gears exactly? I don't recall him stating or showing Illyria as having an official gear population to the public has he?

PWAB has gotten their hands on almost every source of political influential power in the world, it's crazy...

The implication at the end of GG2 was that he would work together with Dr. Paradigm and the peaceful Gears of his island to make a case for Gears' capacity for understanding and compassion, and that it seems to have been at least somewhat successful. Considering most of the violent Gears were sublimated anyway, there's not much to argue against.

If that ganguro Valentine ends up playable, I think I've found the character I'll want to play besides Millia and Bedman.

One of the beautiful things about this game being 3D is that ANY of the models we see in this game can be as good as playable should ArcSys choose so. It's definitely something we can be optimistic about. <3 :3

hrmm. I guess this one doesn't look much like Aria

Yeah, I'm really curious about what that means for the nature of Aria (and Justice's) relationship to Valentine. IF it ever get explained...

I haven't played Guilty Gear 2, but isn't the design of Valentine completely different from the one shown on the trailer?

Yes she is different.

The reason being that Sol killed the other Valentine in Overture. This is a new one.
