badgerfan20945 Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm24138851 I really don't understand what happened at about 42 seconds in. May went to super and pot was doing a tick throw with j.p. It was like her super whiffed or something. Those few seconds really confused me. Does anyone know what happened?
FKGunBlaze Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 So, after having lurked all the pages up this point, I even ask the question myself. Are EX Characters banned or what?
Jakestation Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 So, after having lurked all the pages up this point, I even ask the question myself. Are EX Characters banned or what? There is no ex-characters in XRD.
FKGunBlaze Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 There is no ex-characters in XRD. I was referring to the earlier games.
FKGunBlaze Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 EX characters are banned. I feel obliged to ask for more detail.
BladeOfJustice7 Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 I feel obliged to ask for more detail. Because they're broken/imbalanced. They're made strictly for humour purposes. Something like EXX Ky's FB lightning bolt are ridiculous. They've never been designed for competitive purposes, hence why they are always absent (just like Xrd, if they'll make them in the first place) in the arcade releases of Xrd. Just like boss forms of BB characters, they're designed to be over the top and ridiculous. Nothing more, nothing less.
DaiAndOh Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 They're never in arcade versions of the XX games either. If you want to fight Eddie in AC being able to crank your guard bar with buzz saw and perform air drills, be my guest!
TeeJay Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 I thought EX-Robo Ky was allowed in one of the games? I've never seen it or know where I heard that from.
D.R.F. Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 Um I dont think so (?) I think in reload he was tourney legal though
Clousephinat Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 Yeah, like from X-#R where he was C tier in all 3 games! I'm quite surprised then, not sure about X, but in #R he's one of the few characters that can easily do some air combos after 214HS and one of the few characters that can poison your opponent, I can easily win a match with him without spending too much time. Testament with YRC will be scarier than Faust and Zato. Except for EXE Beast and spending more tension in order to combo Nightmare Circular I don't think it will make much difference. Just like boss forms of BB characters, they're designed to be over the top and ridiculous. Nothing more, nothing less. Nothing less if anything. Are you saying that a character with regenerative health, attack, speed, defense increased and stuff, is equally broken that EX characters? I can't even see what has Order-Sol EX to be called broken compared to his normal version, for example.
Orrax Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 (edited) EX Robo-Ky was never allowed to my knowledge. In #Reload he became tournament legal, but that was his regular version, not his EX version. EX characters are banned for several reasons, most of which have been said already. Probably the biggest reason is that they're not in the arcade version. I like this because it allows for consistency. If someone were to go to Japan and enter a tournament in a Japanese arcade, or someone in Japan were to travel to Evo, they can be sure they're playing basically the same game. Another important thing to note is that there is really very little dissent among the community about EX characters being banned. We (and I use "we" because I think the vast majority of competitive GG players agree with me on this) have agreed that they should be banned, because of the reasons already stated, and they've remained banned throughout every iteration of the game. EX characters were never really balanced for competitive play or location tested, so they tend to range from terrible to broken. They can be fun to mess around with, but I certainly wouldn't want to deal with them in a tournament setting. Edited August 4, 2014 by Orrax

Clousephinat Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 Regarding that fight, I think they have changed 63214HS into an overdrive throw like the previous 4123641236HS IK (if I remember correctly, 236236HS in Xrd as well?), and Pot doing RRC saved the day. I can't confirm this though, since most May players tend to use YRC ball, but I've seen elsewhere a Sol player grabbing I-No before doing Longing Desesperation, and I guess if he or she had done YRC before that, the same thing would have happened. EDIT: My bad, PRC.

Clousephinat Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 I just found it odd because the animation that came up was if Potemkin grabbed somebody, and not the typical whiff animation he has. That's what confused me. Well, is exactly as you say. Pot wasn't trying to grab May, if so, this is what would have happened.
badgerfan20945 Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 If you look at the animation for pot buster on hit: http://puu.sh/aF44B/1690ae6557.jpg and then you look at the instance in the video: http://puu.sh/aF3Rv/c3783e6d05.jpg Its the exact same animation. I wonder if the superflash has throw invuln properties or something. It was just confusing to me lol.
XXXDC Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 Looks like some kind of glitch, but basically Pot went for a grab and May for a reversal super. Maybe they both did it on the same frame.
Horokei Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 This frame of Potbuster is part of it whiff animation too and last 1~2 frames. Just because of May overdrive freeze you see it longer than 1-2 frames. They both whiff due to invul
Henaki Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 they just threw on the same frame, pot buster is throw immune, so im guessing that may overdrive is throw immune too. pot canceled recovery afterwards because he had a longer whiff animation and was probably panicking.
maverick Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 Sharon's Ramlathal is frustrating. That's what you should say. He makes her look broken. At least Karincho gives some space to breath. Honestly I find Karincho's playstyle to be kinda boring. He's no doubt a really strong player with Ramlethal but I find Sharon, Batako, and other Ramlethal players playstyle to be much more entertaining and exciting to watch. TBH Ramlethal's cannon thing she does reminds me of Baikens Dust normal. Thats probably why Sharon picked her up I wish Baiken was in this game
Calamitus Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 http://www.siliconera.com/2014/08/05/guilty-gear-xrd-sign-set-december-4-japan/ Sorry if this was mentioned before
2nd_striker Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 im importing the japanese version, will have to ignore the story or watch it on youtube! MUST PLAY THIS GAME!!! Any news on when we will see sin in action?
NeoJET Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 http://blog.livedoor.jp/od3/archives/52080141.html OK, according to this leak (from Famitsu magazine), there will be a new character called "El" in story mode.
