Rooting for Uki (Goddamnit Macaboo where are you where I need you) Sol and Woshige. I hope Karinchu loses Hase or Random Millia #2

Because mods shouldn't exist in the first place. The only ones who should be making game content is the people in charge of said game, no one else.

God forbid someone take a game they love and try to add to it by making content of their own for it to spread around for others who may want to use said content as well, be that custom levels, costumes, or for the extremely dedicated, making new characters and balance and engine changes (project M).

No, give me an actual good reason as to why mods would do anything bad for the game. You don't want your opponent playing with his custom soundtrack? Or with his custom voice pack that you probably wouldn't even be able to hear? Or for them to just make the game look better by better optimizing stuff or whatever that one guy did for the PC version of dark souls? Mods don't make a game, but they can sure as hell add to it.

Mods are great, you casuals. :P

I appreciate the mention of Arc putting some old titles on Steam to test the waters but they probably won't do too hot in sales because of the fact that they are old. I got BBCT on release for PC, had fun with cross platform against friends via GFWL/XBL, but knowing that the newer additions to the series were out on console sort of made it less fun because I knew I was missing out. I wouldn't mind Xrd coming to PC a little later but if it's over a year then... Well, it's the only reason that I'm going to be getting a PS4 this winter. I can only hope that it doesn't die as quickly as my PS3 did. The plus side is that there is a homogeneous experience that Team Red has designed for all players Xrd, performance-wise and experience-wise, and that is to be respected from a game that has its roots in the arcade.

I'll be cheering on the two Bedmen who qualified, Tsubu and Nakasu of course. Still can't get over the fact not one Eddie qualified. That just doesn't seem right.

Did any Slayers qualify?

Taka and Hase. The previous page has the first round matches listed.

Is the event going to be streamed? Any details on that? (like the channel and time)

Please not on Nico, please not on Nico, please not on Nico...

What you should really worry about is cheating, for instance you talked about custom sound packs. Let's say I am having a hard time with overheads, i could add a distinct loud notification sound for each time a character performs their overhead this may give me an advantage if i can react to it. Or even worse add a 2d overlay that makes the overheads super obvious, mods for fighting games is a bad idea. I mean you see this kind of thing in FPS mods all the time, like enhanced crosshairs to make aiming easier. Sure there could be lots of innocent mods that do not really interfere with game play, but open that door and cheaters will take advantage of it all day for free.

Steam workshop integration into modern (and some older) PC games allows for modifications to be distinct from online play, actually. That is a somewhat irrelevant argument. Cheaters will cheat with or without mod support. Although I personally don't care whether or not mods are supported in a potential PC Xrd release, I'm not a fan of the tone some people's ill-formed opinions regarding mods.

Edit: Is there any confirmation of the Ustream link for Arc Revo? I don't think I can remember my nico details

There will always be cheaters, I don't see how that's a reason to say there should be no PC version. For that matter, let's have no online play because of lag switchers. And no offline multiplayer because the other guy might kick you in the face during your combo.

You know, while I generally agree with this statement, Project M makes a very strong case for its existence. Modding is certainly fine in special instances (i.e. Doom) where the developers decide to make the source code openly available for people to tinker with, though.

I really wouldn't want to see Xrd defiled with stupid mods on PC. I think the reason why MvC3 never made it off the consoles is because Marvel was worried about mods getting out of hand. But the biggest reason I don't want to see Xrd on PC is because it would be too big of an investment for ArcSys with too little payoff, even with the easy portability of UE3. The vocal nature of people begging online for PC ports of every new fighting game doesn't mean that they would actually buy these releases in significant enough numbers to recoup development and publishing costs.
