ninjay Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 So rumor has it xrd will not be state side this year. Gamestop has changed the release date. Don't know if accurate ir not, but a few ppl have told me that Gamestop and Amazon still show a release date of 12/31/04. Did it change?
White Man Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 Is this like... supposed to guilt people back into the series or something? Because frankly people should be able to play whatever the fuck they want without forum members being on their ass about it. You're right about that. I'm just saying that if someone declares himself a fan of a game and then unceremoniously -- almost spitefully -- abandons that game because of the absence of one character, I have to wonder if they were ever really a true Scotsman fan and not just an opportunist who stuck with it because they had an easy time dominated with a certain character. Wasn't there a kinda-well-known Slayer player who completely quit GG after Slayer lost his bite loop? I recall hearing that. I don't know if that's accurate, but if so, that's the kind of attitude I'm talking about.

Honestly, that's a really narrow-minded way of looking at things. There are people who don't mesh well with various playstyles, or just find other characters not fun to play as. To say someone isn't a "real fan" because they're not willing to force themselves to play a game when they're not gonna have fun doing so is pretty asshole-ish of you.
Epic Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 You're right about that. I don't know if that's accurate, but if so, that's the kind of attitude I'm talking about. So what if he did? He enjoyed a certain aspect of the gameplay and when it was removed he lost interest. Same with me and Axl - rensen FRC and hachisubako were removed in Xrd and because of that I lost interest in him as those two thing where the most fun aspects of the character for me. I think Ogawa quit playing in Slash, because Eddie was a trash can character that he did not enjoy playing and refused to swap to a different one, so I guess according to your amazing logic he's just an opportunist raiding the S tier train. If Zato wasn't present in Xrd I highly doubt he'd even touch it. Some people just like their character to a point where they don't want to play anything else. What you're doing is basically telling people to pick characters that they don't enjoy, nor are remotely interested in and play the game for the sake of it or they aren't real fans, despite following the series for over 10 years. Give me a break.
Sanger Zonvolt Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 I'm glad I enjoy playing almost every Guilty Gear character.
D.R.F. Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 I'm glad I enjoy playing almost every Guilty Gear character. Wouldn"t want to be a "fake fan." Also I like that song, "Give Me a Break."
Tenj|n Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 I steered clear of the entire AC series because FBs aren't my thing and Anji felt dead awkward for me. I'm now into Xrd and maining Bedman while waiting for Anji to return. What kind of fan does that make me?

Jocelot Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 Whoa, an Anji main interested in Bedman? Weird! There is someone else like me....
D.R.F. Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 Whoa, an Anji main interested in Bedman? Weird! There is someone else like me.... Tbh I thought all anjis were going to at least touch bedman lol. I subbed anji, so im subbing the bed:D
Tenj|n Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 Yep, i read somewhere in the forums that he's the closest to Anji so i gave him a shot during a short Japan trip. Interesting fellow.
D.R.F. Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 He is the one with guardpoint. Although getting used to his dash will be pretty wierd
Stellarcircle5 Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 Deja vu Bedslam = Shitsu. Everything makes sense.
Tenj|n Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 Task A and B = Shitsu Task C and D = Fuujin There you go.
XXXDC Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 If you're not even willing to learn a new character (or learn new tricks for a character whose moveset has changed significantly between installments), then you were never really a fan of Guilty Gear; you were a fan of the one specific play style you'd put the effort into training. Oh well, I guess it's still better than people who drop games because their main fell slightly in the tier lists between revisions. I have zero respect for players like that. Have you heard about SCV, that's what happens when you arbitrarily remove characters from a game and/or attempt to replace them with brand new characters. Doesn't matter if they have similar movesets, they're still different characters and you can't blame people for wanting their original character [Been there a couple of times *k9999->Nameless, SCV fiasco*]. Personally i don't have much problem with GG since i actually like and enjoy playing most of the cast... but for example if they remove Litchi from the next BB and/or give her moveset to a brand new character, then i'd drop BB. I can understand some players not wanting to play XRD "yet".

Ziggy_Stardust Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 Eh, my main wish is for Zappa to return, but I always liked playing as Venom anyways. I'm just going to work on venom while I wait for Zappa to return. I don't think that losing what you liked about a character or even a character itself and dropping the games makes you a fake fan though. For some people the absence of that makes the game less fun.
NesmerII Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 Hey I'm super late but Leo having a model and portrait doesn't mean jack shit regarding his playability. The amount of work that would go into making a passable model for story mode (normal biped skeleton, standard texture set, etc.) is nothing near the level of work that would go into making a playable character (hundreds of deformation bones, endless rigging, LOD texture sets, attack designs, effects, voice acting, etc. etc.). He's relevant to the story mode, so that doesn't mean he couldn't end up playable, but this isn't enough to go on to even really speculate. At least if they made Paradigm playable they'd have a moveset and some animations to pull from. (Keep an eye out for playable Senators 1-3, all of Ky's soldiers, Illyria Citizens 1-20, and Zepp Flight Director.) This is true. However I feel the need to point out that this is the exact same thing that happened with Elphelt, except she didn't even show up so prominently in a trailer. Instead she just appeared in a few images from story mode, and before anyone could say "Who's this bitch supposed to be-" *BAM* Elphelt confirmed. Also, Zepp Flight Director... pffffft. Gabriel when?

Ah, but the most obvious the counter point to that is 3rd Strike which is majorly agreed upon to be the best SF and has nearly an entirely different and new cast. Of course because of that different cast the game did not do well because people's favorite characters weren't in it and they never picked it up. Or you can blame the Parry mechanic for being too difficult, whichever. I'm personally always open for something different and change. New characters, new mechanics, new take on things. I can understand however people's frustration when a character or style of play they devoted themselves to playing for years is no longer viable. But a part of fighting games is being adaptable I say, but hey.
Coffeeling Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 3S being the best SF is far from "agreed upon". There's a crapton of people who dislike the game a lot because the parry system does mean things to the fireball game many ST heads love so much. Plus there's the issue of the game having been a Chun/Yun/Ken fest in some large US tournaments which also left a sour taste in many people's mouth. There's no consensus on SF. Some hate ST counterpick circus, some hate 3S imbalance/parry, some hate SF4's ass walkspeeds and other system quirks and it's OS/setplay heavy matchflow and so on. (put me in the 3S best SF camp.)

But a part of fighting games is being adaptable I say, but hey. I know TS Sabin doesn't link 3s at all and some SF players felt alienated by the game. Even the fireball game died. I'm down with Xrd but I wasn't heavily into the GG scene or new what it was until I was well in BB. I'm not sure this topic matters much. Arc made a new GG and like anyone in any real creative mindset, they don't want to recreate the same thing. I'm bored to tears if I'm even transcribing my own music for other instrumentation or something else. If I make an arrangement, it's gonna do some highly unexpected stuff. On the other hand, they could go the BB route and make things more difficult and nuanced as the series progressed. BB had 5f buffer which helped me as a fighting game noob. I couldn't even do basic Ragna combos. They probably want the game to grow and progress with a new generation. I'm not sure if this is a subconscious thing or a platform. I'm sure Arc knew the consequences and decided the risk was worth it. The most important thing for Xrd's health is that it captivates new players outside of the normal BB/GG community. If that happens, you have a great success and if not, you have BB or GG currently.
BladeOfJustice7 Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 Good discussions here. If they release burger sheriff I'm dropping Ky for him. INFINITE.BURGER.LOOPS. It's not in the same context persay, but when Overture was announced I had zero interest in it because of Ky. In fact what drew me to GG was in fact Ky, seeing all of his attacks and supers, if he's not in the game my interest drop significantly. I love GG on a whole but his playstyle as well as his personality and etc makes me want to play more with him. You could even give Sin his moveset, I probably still wouldn't play GG as much as I do now. When I found out that KY was in fact in Overture (and looked even more badass than ever) I was then determined to get an xbox and the game. I knew I had to unlock him to be able to play as him, so when I get the game I focused on beating campaign mode. And I only really enjoyed one mission in campaign mode, mission 13 with him and the last mission (final boss stage). Otherwise the enjoyment of the game for me was subpar, but once I unlocked him I played the game feverishly. Now my opinion has changed as I now sub Ky, whereas before I was a one character specialist. I'v since found Sol almost as fan as Ky to play, I know there is no way I'd be as excited for xrd if only Sol, my sub, was the only character I could play. But I would still deal with it, a new GG is a new GG and I rather have a new one now than waiting 2 more additional years for them to release their first revision with my main. I'd wait for him/her and play Sol for fun in the mean time. I most def understand both sides of this issue but be happy, that unlike Capcom, waiting 7+ years does not necessarily mean your beloved series is canceled. ArcSys is putting in that work for us who still played the series, I'm just lucky I main the deuteragonist of the series lol. Years ago when Overture dropped, if Ky wasn't in the game and I already had an xbox I wouldn't have bought the game, but now I'd say I'd buy the game for the sake of others and supporting the company I'd buy Overture, at least I can have fun with a character I almost enjoy as much as Ky. Besides Mugen plays Xrd, and we all know he won't be seeing his main in 3d anytime soon. But he's still actively playing and taring shit up with his nasty neutral game he got from playing Bridget. To me, that says a lot.
