STenSatsu Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 i would rather they wait until january so they have no competition, and be able to release 18 characters or something. Ultra SF4 comes out in August so there isn't exactly much competition on the fighting game front in fall. I doubt it would be picked up by many people who wouldn't already be grabbing it if it came out in q1 2015 honestly. Better to get it to the fans that have been waiting for it quicker imo.
Jocelot Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Sweet news! Wasn't expecting it which makes it even sweeter! Also hype to hear Xrd'll be at E3. Can't wait to hear some more info on what to expect from consoles. I wonder if console'll have bigger character tweaks and count as an update...Oh I guess we'll see.
Kaizen Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Why is the number 15 being looked at with validity when it comes from an article singing the praises of how "Arc System Work's beautiful 2D art and animations will again be a focal point of the game"? You can disprove this statement by...watching the announcement trailer. I seriously doubt IGN has insider information confirming a final count of fifteen. Also: going to E3. Overdosing on hype.
RWA Announcer Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Nice! This is coming out a lot sooner than I ever expected it would. I just hope there's enough of a stretch between this and Ultimax when it comes out. I also fully expect some DLC characters, or additional versions down the line that add more, so I'm not too worried about the roster size.

True enough, that does make sense. Thanks for the thought there, INFERNO COPPU!

Clousephinat Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 I'm pretty disappointed with that 15 number. They could only manage 1 character for console release? P4A2 is getting so many more, so just 1 for Xrd is aggrivating, especially since it will just be Sin, because he has a model already, and it's easier than starting from scratch. And don't give me something about how much work it takes to make characters, because sprites are harder to make than models, so P4A2 is getting far more work with these console characters than 1 modeled character for Xrd. I still don't have my Jam or Bridget, and their only new characters would be Rammy and Sin, with Rammy just looking ok, and Sin starting off rubbing me the wrong way with his appearance. I wasn't expecting it to jump to 20+ for console, but 18 would be nice. He's my sub character in +R, I'd love to see him too but that's not going to happen. In fact, Jam and Bridget are probably the most "useless" characters right now, speaking in terms of plot. 13 characters it's still fine, I mean, don't forget this is like a new beginning for the GG series after all this years, ASW wouldn't take the risk to introduce a bunch of characters in one shot, regardless if Xrd gets or not good sales, because most people including in Japan didn't even know about GG until now. Anyway, I'm really happy that ASW already confirmed the release of the game in North America, WITHOUT even being released in Japan just yet, that's something to be really grateful after all.
BladeOfJustice7 Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 I think that initially we'll get Sin, and then get extra DLC characters over the course of the game's console lifespan. Like alternate color palettes, and just straight up more colors, there's only 6 kinda lame, even BB had more colors in CT if I remember correctly. Off topic: Would pile bunker be too strong if it wallpinned in the corner? And I find his new attacks to be pretty lack luster compared the new tools that characters like Ky, Sol, and venom got. Slayer's claw attack and stomp are rarely seen in matches.
Layer Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 I think comparing the jump from SFIV original cast to their expansive cast with every iteration to Xrd to console is indeed unfair to ASW, especially considering Capcom is a way bigger company with deeper wallets. I also recall Capcom once stating it takes 3 months to fully develop one character in SFIV, and that's with a huge company like Capcom. And besides, we still got E3 and several months to go. I'm guessing they're gonna have something up their sleeve.
TAI-X Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 I think that initially we'll get Sin, and then get extra DLC characters over the course of the game's console lifespan. Like alternate color palettes, and just straight up more colors, there's only 6 kinda lame, even BB had more colors in CT if I remember correctly. No reason to stop there. They can do full-fledged alternate costumes, now that they've switched to 3D models. Potemkin getting a classic outfit would almost certainly be one of the first we see, and if Arc decides there's no chance of Order Sol and Robo-Ky returning as playable characters, they can at least show up as costumes.
TheRealBobMan Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 This isn't a new IP though. Blazblue was a new IP. P4A was a new IP in terms of fighters, but every playable party member in P4 joined in, and some from P3 too, and it couldn't expand too much without just incorporating more P3, more brand new characters, or some side characters suddenly becoming playable. GG has been around for a while, and even if they are making the models from the ground up, it's not as if they don't have a template of what these characters do already, and models take considerably less time and effort to make than sprites (which both of your examples use), so it's not as justifiable. If it were still sprites, you'd have a bit more of an argument, but as it stands, there's less workload AND it's a pre-existing cast, and it's not like they had to do more than 1 brand new character for this since Rammy is the only one that wasn't in another game, so your justification just isn't good enough. SF4, as slow and inadequate compared to other SF games as it is, had 17 characters in its initial arcade release, and 25 for home. Xrd has 14 for arcade, and 15 for home. Let's not pretend like it gets a free pass for being "the first in a new series" when it's not a new IP, that excuse doesn't work. They're starting fresh using Unreal Engine of all things as a base for this game. They also want this game to be simple enough to attract new players since GG is a game that's known for being "too complicated" or "too hardcore" by some people. Since they tend to make their characters play uniquely, every additional character makes the game that much more complex to pick up. You don't have to learn to play as everyone, but you certainly better learn enough to play against everyone. A smaller starting roster makes this easier. That said, I'm disappointed too. I don't even main him but I want to see glorious 3D Zappa. SF4 might have had 25 in the initial console release, but how many were borderline clones of each other? That game is like 20% shotos. They're all different enough to play differently, like Fox and Falco in smash, but aren't as different as Venom, Bedman, and Ramlethal. On what basis do you claim that 3D models are easier to made? Do you work for Arsys? Have ever made both sprites and 3D modeling, animated like sprites? I'm pretty sure I've seen multiple articles about how using 3D models is more cost efficient in the long run. I think there's an article about BB:CT's release that talks about that, and I'm pretty sure the Skullgirls team has said the same. I also can't really see Capcom switching to 3D models just because of the aesthetic. I'd hunt down and link some stuff here to make it easy on you, but I'm working too many hours to want to spend my free time on it. Why is the number 15 being looked at with validity when it comes from an article singing the praises of how "Arc System Work's beautiful 2D art and animations will again be a focal point of the game"? You can disprove this statement by...watching the announcement trailer. I seriously doubt IGN has insider information confirming a final count of fifteen. Also: going to E3. Overdosing on hype. IGN sucks. Only 2 more weeks! YEEEEEEAAAAAA!!!! So... I'll be buying some note pads sometime between now and E3 to write down things people might want me to test. I'll probably make a thread for that later or something, or just ask for PMs. Not sure yet. Anyway, I'll write down stuff so that I wont forget to test it, then QA test the shit out of whatever they have on the show floor to the best of my ability. There are things I'll want to check out besides GG, but that probably wont take up more than one day... I'll spend 90% of my E3 time at the Aksys booth, and I'm going all 3 days. !This is everyone's heads up to think about stuff they might want to ask me to test! Keep in mind I probably wont be able to test things like frame rate, attack level, exact tension values for moves, or any such things. I also wont get to play nonstop for 3 days since I'm assuming there will be a crowd, and I have no idea how many set-ups they'll have available (last year Aksys only had a small conference room with like 1 BBCP setup, and 2 setups for other games, besides the one one setup for BBCP that was in the PS4 section of the show floor in Sony's booth). I might not even get to focus on testing and may have to just play games against people and figure things out that way. One of the things I'm most concerned with testing is performance issues and parity between the PS3 and PS4 versions of the game. I already have ideas on how to do that, but I have no idea if they'll let me do those kinds of tests, or if the hardware will be close enough together for it to work. *crosses fingers*
4r5 Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 Yes, ps3 vs ps4 very important. Also tell them to enable ps3 controllers.
Tenj|n Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 Xrd demo on PS4 at E3 confirmed and they are learning English! https://twitter.com/Yamanaka_ARC/status/472254758888017920 Daisuke will be there too. https://twitter.com/Yamanaka_ARC/status/472254831407550464
ElvenShadow Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 Great news! Now I probably won't even have to start playing Xrd again after leaving Japan! I honestly wasn't expecting a US release so quickly. I thought it would come out on Japan consoles a few months early but it seems they got their shit together. I would take the 15 characters thing with a grain of salt. Also, if it does end up just being Sin only, I am really confident we will get some DLC characters. I will probably just end up buying both PS3 and PS4 versions. I already have a PS3 so I might as well, and I plan to get a PS4 at some point so I might as well get Xrd for it. It just means having an extra setup for gatherings and stuff. I don't mind shelling out the money for 2 PS4 sticks so everyone can use them either. I drink away that money at Tokyo Rock Bars constantly anyway. Once I live back in the states I can go back to paying reasonable prices for beer again!

Glutenbob Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 Hey guys, I am new here and new to Guilty Gear as a whole. I haven't even played Blaz Blue. Anyways I have been hearing that GG has very complex controls, I was wondering if I will need a stick for this game. I have a stick for the 360 but not my ps4. Also do you guys expect there to be yearly iterations of this game?
xlolxlolx Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 gg's controls are actually very simple, 5 buttons and plays fine on pad i don't know about yearly iterations but looking at asw's release history recently, i think it's safe to assume every 1.5 - 2 years, more likely that they'll add in more characters before actually making a new version with balance changes altogether

I am excited to finally branch out to non-capcom fighting games XD. hopefully GG kicks off and gets popular.
destruction_adv Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Will Sin be playable in E3? Sin is a rumor at this point, a rumor with a bit of a base, and I feel it's likely he will be in the game, but yeah, we don't even know if he's really in yet. As for E3 somewhat doubtful.
Fortune Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Really wishing upon a star that Color Edit / original costumes is a possibility (or fuck, more colors if anything). Won't hold my breath though.
