TlocCPU Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 Honestly, this is a mess. Blazblue is still the final main game despite being the most outdated on the roster and the lowest numbers at west coast warzone. The brand new game, Persona, is at the beginning of the day before people even get there basically being shoved off to the side as a sidegame despite this being the first premier tournament for it in our region. UNIEL, the game featured at TRB and undoubtedly getting the most numbers, is just thrown somewhere in the middle with an unrealistic amount of time to finish before BB starts. What is going on here? I know I haven't been around in ages and I realize that I wasn't the world's best tournament organizer, but it looks like it's just completely lost any logic and sense of organization. I'm already hearing several people telling me this morning that they aren't even going to go because it's such a mess now and some of those people are a big reason why I even want to go hang out at this event at all. Has this become a one man show since the streaming changed? I don't see Jyosua even listed as a TO anymore. I love my game persona, and while it might not be the new overseers favorite game, I would think that the first release tournament would be giving the release game some sort of attention, not throwing it to the wolves to die before it's even alive. Honestly, my motivation to even come to this event that I've been looking forward to for weeks is completely and totally shot. If it weren't for my love for the arcade and In The Groove, I probably would have to pass on this and wait for the US release and TRB tournaments instead.
Numakie Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 Well we do have 8 games competing for stream time. Skullgirls, Persona, UNIEL, GG, Blaz Blue, Jojo's, VSav, and Melty. There is also just 1 stream at this time. (though i hear of a potential secondary stream in the future) Delta and whoever else runs the Brackets for Skullgirls, Persona, UNIEL, GG and BB games. Rob and I run Jojo's, VSav, and Melty. Super arcade just runs the stream and switches the games as necessary. We all as a whole come to this event to play games and have fun. Perhaps next time, there can be more focus on Persona as a main "US Release" Event, and consider this RU a dry run. As for times, thats up for the TO's to decide. Edit: I had fun. Commentating Melty after drinking is very fun. ;3
nos_talgic Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 first time playing F.U.C. and Hnk with people.
Binkley Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 I'm curious if anyone would be opposed to having the stream order be dictated by the # of entrants of each game? UNIEL and P4U got the most entrants. Or maybe this was just a one-off since Persona will be out by the next Rebel Up. If it's not going to be decided by # of entrants then it should be posted in advance in post #1? A couple other observations/comments on how I think to improve things: -I was late to the venue because my car broke down Friday and so I had to pick it up on Saturday afternoon. That shouldn't happen again, so I should be able to get to the venue earlier and help out if necessary. -The person running the stream (which is usually me or Mando) needs to know the order of games so they can tell people watching and the commentators. Without this there's a lot of "uhhh...we don't know what's going on next" and people (rightfully) get confused/annoyed. Sometimes we got the next game notification like shortly after grand finals so there was still some lag communicating it out. -I think there should be a 2nd TO to announce matches when Delta is busy. Who that should be I don't know (Mando/Me depending on who is not on the stream or someone else?). If there's not going to be a 2nd TO then stream matches need to be queued up otherwise there's dead stream time and that sucks for everyone. -UNIEL really needs commentators. It's never good for a game to have zero or Mando+me on the mic trying to figure out what's going on (I know like next to nothing). I understand people want to play, but hopefully some people in the UNIEL community realize that good to decent commentary is a must in promoting your game on streams. You guys can switch out and rotate commentators. Oh and Numake you talk way too quickly for the stream after you've had some drinks. XP Finally, there are just my comments/observations as a player/streamer/someone who has gone to Rebel Up for a while now. My opinions do not reflect Super Arcade/Watson/Mando's views and are my own.
Alpha152 Posted September 24, 2014 Author Posted September 24, 2014 Ya Binkley, the stream order was something I forgot to mention to you before hand. I'll update the OP to reflect that. If I'm busy playing a match Shtkn, Chupacabra, Vynnara and various other people (whom I'm very thankful to for always helping out) help me so that should not be a problem. And for stream matches I usually have them queued up. As for UNIEL commentators, and other games in general I agree we need a few more people willing to commentate. For UNIEL it's usually BrkrDave, LPT, or SamiFish but since none of them were there we had no commentators unfortunately. On a separate note, we need people to bring consoles! With most new games being the downloaded version, it makes it very hard to switch around set ups and still have the proper amount to run the tournies. If you have a copy of any game (GG/BB/P4/UNIEL/SG) please try to bring one. Even if there is enough for tournament use, we have extra space in the back to make casual setups. Please bring one!
Numakie Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 You can call upon me for UNIEL commentary. Just shout at me through the speaker if need be xD. Also, it may be beneficial to have a marker board with the tourney times, cuz... well... i'll admit. i haven't been looking up forums for tourney times as much these days, and it may be the same for others as well. Also, it would serve as a reminder for players & as a guide for new/random ppl who will want to join in.. I'll prolly bring my whiteboard just cuz.
Layer Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 Me and I'm sure Beautiful Dude will gladly do some more UNIEL commentary again. We did a pretty mediocre job last time!
DVLtrigger Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 Im planning on coming over for Rebel up this saturday and I can bring my ps3, but it only has BB and UNIEL on it. Also I don't have kokonoe or terumi unfortunately. Also, can you come earlier for casuals or will SA be closed up till 4?
shtkn Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 super arcade is open earlier than 4, but i'm not sure how much earlier. The earliest i've ever shown up is around 2pm and they were open.
Alpha152 Posted October 2, 2014 Author Posted October 2, 2014 Woops venue time somehow got removed, Super Arcade opens up at 12:00PM so feel free to come early.
Bedsheets Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 I made it out to Super Arcade this last Saturday and had a great time playing P4AU with you guys! I'd like to do it again in the future, and in order to make sure I can make it out I want to make sure to get it off work. Is it generally held the first and third Saturday of the month? Just want to make sure that I request the right time off.
Alpha152 Posted October 7, 2014 Author Posted October 7, 2014 Glad you enjoyed your time here! Unless it conflicts with a major or any other big event, our schedule is always bi-weekly. In the case of such conflicts, that date will be skipped and the bi-weekly schedule is maintained.
Numakie Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 (words...) SkullGirls Encore - 4:00PM Guilty Gear Accent Core +R - 4:00PM Under Night In-Birth Exe: Late - 6:00PM BlazBlue Chrono Phantasma - 6:00PM Vampire Savior - 6:30PM Persona 4 Arena Ultimax - 8:00PM Melty Blood Actress Again Current Code - 9:00PM (more words...) So GG at 4P , BB at 6P and P4AU at 8p this coming Rebel up, ehh?
Alpha152 Posted October 9, 2014 Author Posted October 9, 2014 Yup, that's correct. That'll be the schedule until Xrd hits.
Layer Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 So when Xrd hits are we gonna be rocking PS3s still? I assume not many of us have PS4s yet.
Alpha152 Posted October 17, 2014 Author Posted October 17, 2014 Due to complaints about length of this event, some games have unfortunately been omitted from the tourney line up. We'll see how things go but as for the games that aren't included in the line up, we will have more stations from now on so please bring setups for the games you would like to play in case in case we don't have enough set ups. Entry fee for games have been increased to $5 as well. EDIT: This solution isn't ideal, but here is another alternative. http://www.twitlonger.com/show/n_1sd40vp Please leave feedback/thoughts
TheRealBobMan Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 So now it's $5 venue + $5 entry for all games? Or is the first post in the topic accurate to the change? There's no "edited by" message so I can't tell. Example being, GG+R no longer supported as a main event, but it also doesn't have an entry fee because of that? That would be a shame. I finally have time to play and actually come out to events, and +R gets dropped since Xrd is coming out in 2 months. Do those stations have monitors too, or do we need to bring those?
Alpha152 Posted October 17, 2014 Author Posted October 17, 2014 The front page is not fully updated, but the entry and venue are correct. I'm going to update it but still going through feedback/replies atm. We only need consoles, monitors/HDMI cables are already provided by Super.
Numakie Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 Beh... we should just keep the original times you posted for Rebel Up this time. no last minute changes pls.
Rotanibor Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 I don't understand a lot of the changes here to be honest.Who actually had that much of a problem with the length of the event? The general consensus I got was that most people thought that it was tiring and draining, but that was ok since it was fun and fulfilling day.Splitting up the tournament basically means some of these games are only getting one tournament a month, which is pretty unfair. The overall attendance numbers for the event would basically be cut in half as well. I don't see there being some big underground scene that says they aren't coming out to Rebel Up because the days are too long that will make up for that either. The introduction of a $5 entry is a bit confusing to me too... Most people have come to appreciate the free tournament format of Rebel Up since it lets them learn games without being cost prohibitive, and it helps get more people interested in trying new games.Like, none of this really makes sense to me, because every single thing you changed was pretty much all the reasons given to me whenever someone told my why they like Rebel Up. The event has its own personality already and it seems pretty successful to me.I also don't agree with the arbitrary labeling some of the stuff as 'side games'. At this point I don't see how it is quite so easily discernible to what you could straight up call a side game, they all contribute to the event.
Binkley Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 Beh... we should just keep the original times you posted for Rebel Up this time. no last minute changes pls. This. Changing something like the day before is not good. How about using tomorrow to poll people at the venue?
Alpha152 Posted October 18, 2014 Author Posted October 18, 2014 That is not the general consensus, otherwise players would have not stopped coming. There have been multiple complaints about there being too many games and not enough time in the event for casuals because of it. With this format it allows each game more time. Either way of having the old format or the new one, there will always be unhappy people. Free tournaments have not only caused players to lack urgency when reporting to their games and going out to dinner when they're needed for a game, but it's caused people who actively play the games to not come solely because there is no entry fee, and thus no prize involved. $5 is the standard for most locals and even majors so that is why it was raised $2. If you want to raise interest for a game or try out a game you haven't played, casuals exist for that. An event isn't successful when your top players in the region start to not attend and instead have casuals/meet up somewhere else, and that's the case here so something had to change.
Alpha152 Posted October 18, 2014 Author Posted October 18, 2014 I will ask people tomorrow which they would like. For tomorrow we will use the previous format, unless enough people decide otherwise.
Shin ATproof Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 I'm down for having harsher/stricter policies for people not showing up on time to play their match and be on deck. That would cut A LOT of tourney time. Too many people are tardy for their matches and that needs to stop. Also people complaining about the amount of time Rebel Up takes is news to me. I'm committed to spending half a day at the venue because I'm literally up for 24 hours that day (from the moment I work until the time I leave Super Arcade) so personally it's not an issue for me. ALL THE SAME....As with others, I'm willing to have a round table discussion tomorrow on how to divide stations for tournament and casuals so there's plenty for both to run smoothly and in a timely manner.
