3 hour t-t-training session and boy my fingers hurt from trying to IAD and it not coming out. I tried 866 and it seems fine, but isn't 966 better since it air dashs you asap?

 

ALSO WHOEVER THOUGHT MAN VENOM NEEDS IAD COMBOS NOT 6HS>CARCASS RAID IS BSSSSSSSSSSSSSS >:W

In some situations, like against lightweight characters, you need to delay the dash in order for j.SHD to connect properly or the following 6HS won't hit. You can do 966, 866 or even 766. It doesn't really matter. Just find one that you can do consistently and see what works for you.

I had no idea it was....and source about that?

It's a projectile but I imagine that wouldn't affect it?

Does just defending add frames of recovery to the attacker rather than reduce the recovery from the blocker maybe? With it being a projectile maybe that's the case? I dunno that is strange though.

No, it reduces blockstun.

 

I asked Ruu (The Bridget God from Japan) since he dabbled in some Xrd Venom about his thoughts on executing: (yes, he speaks some English)

SPEAKING OF WHICH, anyone know any news about him lately? Really liked his playstyle in AC but I know he didn't really play +R and got into dominating vampire loli's. Fino is cool too.

N-O supposedly resolved that he didn't want to play bad or middling characters anymore, and is probably enjoying BB more.

It's funny, Fino actually got bored with Venom for a while and played Zato for a while, but has gotten back to Venom "until he bores him again" he told me lol.

I'm preeeeeeeetty sure Venom was high tier in both AC+/R(?) and we all know about the Vampira. He should play like Sol and dragon install every match like I do :3

There are actually vids of N.Otoko playing sol in +r lol he definately isnt/wasnt the strongest sol compared to other japanese sol players , haha. And yea venom was ass in +r, compared to ac where he was like midtier,

Sol is N-O's first character in GG actually, and then he switched to Venom. He was just messing around.

Venom's rankings over the series:

Apparently A tier in XX (underdeveloped game, no clue how it would go), B in #R, C in Slash, B-B+ in AC, D in +R, and B-A tier in Xrd (depends who you ask). Never been directly at the top, and unless he gets some truly OP stuff, probably never will be top 5, but you never know!

Would anyone care to theory fight the reason for venoms relatively high standing in xrd? (Besides the fact that there 3 really good venom players out there)

YRC and Blitz Shield probably help, although I barely played AC so I can't speculate on how his various options compare to what he had/didn't have in +R.

Still has his usual strengths, and they're worth a good deal more I think in a game not as crazy as AC+R. Has higher average damage in a few situation than most of his incarnations. j.D is really good, both as an attack and hitting balls. YRC is very good to him. And as you said, despite the skepticism, you can't deny there's at least 3 very high level Venom players capable of winning tournaments with the best players in the world.

Space controlling is also amazingly easy now with j.D ball strikes and S ball-> HS ball formation. But yeah, I'm sure it had more to do with the actual players, and other characters generally being worse.

How to make venom S tier in XRD without being too OP: bring back accent core 6P, Let 2363214s crank guard bar again, able to telehport to qv ball location using the same 'holdbutton mechanics', give him a reversal

I don't think holdbutton teleport would benefit QV since charge balls get so much milage. Maybe being able to cancel the hit into teleport ala Dubious Curve? AC 6P would be a godsend though. There have been too many situations where I've died to current 6P's blah hitbox.

Enough theorycrafting though. I wonder if organizing a Venom forum lobby on Xrd one night would be a feasible idea? We all seem to be on the east coast, a good portion in the tristate area, so lag 'should' be minimal. It would be a good place for everyone to exchange advice and little tricks in a live engaging environment. I know I would benefit a lot from having better players critique how I approach the character.

Anti-airs in Xrd seem generally worse than in AC so I doubt he'd get his old 6P back.  In fact I'm willing to bet that's exactly why Arcsys reverted it to Reload 6P.

Oh for the teleport qv thing, what i mean is you would be able to do is qv teleport combos in the corner, they would look swag as hell and probably take more damage, lol. And that venom forum lobby sounds like a good idea, though i hate mirror matches

Probably not. It was #R style in +R. That said I believe the frame data and invincibility is worse. Venom 6P in #R was really good actually. And even if Venom had AC 6P in +R, reverting a lot of things to #R style would have made it that version anyway (see Ky 6HS for instance).

As far as a lobby goes, I'd be down as long as time permits me. I'd alert Blacksnake of it too, lives in Chicago not too bad a connection.

I have definitely been having troubles responding to my opponents jump-ins with Venom's Anti-Airs'. Here are muh thoughts of his AA mooseveset:

 

-6P with K/P ball is good at long-ish range, although having it travel slower would be great. By itself, I wished it actually comboed into 6HS

-2HS feels similar to 6P but lower and more to the front. More of a poke than an AA. Bad if they double jump

-HS Carcass is a good denial tool although prepping it up in reaction to an air-approach is something I don't usually think about

-I tried to do preemptive jD's but the slow start-up and slower recovery makes it ass for that

 

Also, wish I can do psychic air throws. :333333

2HS is pretty good against IADs that aren't covered by a projectile. If you have a charge, CH 2HS (1 hit) S Carcass will net big damage.

If they're high above you, use the 3rd hit of 5Sc. Beats anything when timed right.

Cancel 6P into 6HS if you aren't in range for 5Sc. Guaranteed on CH, and people miss the tech a lot anyway.

Venom definitely has the tools to cover pretty much any AA situation, even if 6P isn't totally retarded.

I'm glad everyone seems cool with the idea of a Venom lobby. When are you guys available? I can get online by around 7-8ish EST almost every night. I can be on considerably earlier on Tuesdays and Sundays.

On the subject of reaction air throws, I almost never time or space it correctly. I've gotten into the habit of OSing with jP so I get CH less often, but I mess it up so consistently that I seldom attempt it. Where exactly do I want them in relation to Venom to get the airthrow out? How do you guys go about attempting airthrows (IE spacing, inputs, etc)?

What's your combo for 2HS counterhit counterhit? Usually I try S Carcass into a j.K or j.S chain but I usually don't get knockdown (where I can just 6HS for that).

Airthrows grab people above you in the air. Gotta space it in relation to that.

 

I'm very bad at AAing with air throw personally, but air grab resets alone are very useful for Venom, especially now.
