Escathon Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 Dissidia saved me from boredom as soon as it came out. My current Lv. 100's are Butz Klauser, Kuja and Zidane. Currently levelling-up Onion Knight. My favorite quotes: "Oh! Kakkoi ja ORE!" - Butz (when fighting Butz in Distant Glory) = "Oh! I look cool!" "Nakai katana da na!" - Butz (when fighting Sephiroth in Distant Glory) = "What a long sword!" (or was it big?) "UBOOOA-te nandatsuka?" - Tidus (when fighting Emperor in Distant Glory) = "Dude, what the heck is UBOAR?" "Onaji kurushimi wo ajiwae!" - Gabranth (when executing the first Mist Knack) = "Feel the same pain!" "Ichi yo, reidi...Nanou ka?" - Zidane (when fighting Cloud of Darkness in Distant Glory) = "Are you...a lady?" "Narushisuto wa hairanakutte yo!" - Shantotto (when fighting Kuja in Distant Glory) = "Being a narcissist is so passe!" ~ Good thing she said "Narushisuto" instead of "Okama" XDDDDDDDD "Ore ga kattara deito shou ka!" - Zidane (when fighting Shantotto in Distant Glory) = "If I win I'll take you out on a date!" OMG. XDDDDD
Blade Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Yeah for some reason I can't seem to get characters to say character-specific quotes outside of sound test. Does it only work in versus or something?
bjholmes2 Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 If the game is fun, PLAY IT, that simple...not everything NEEDS COMPETITION to be fun. To be completely honest, I "collect" fighting games. Sounds like a bizarre idea to most of you I bet. But I have never once played them with the intent on assaulting the gamepad or joystick by mashing, even if a game is "mash worthy" as people seem so passionate of categorizing them. So do I! Anyways, just started getting into the Final Fantasy series. My first was XII (not that great of a start, I might add). This game looks really neat; kind of like a Kingdom Hearts style Versus mode, from what I can tell.
Bridget Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 I had a entertaining converstation with someone about FFD online. It went like this. Me: Anyway, you know what really grinds my gears everyone? That Fighters Generation webmaster's boner for Final Fantasy. He is going to put on Dissidia even if it sucks utter balls which all non RPG games made by the FF team do (and I would argue FF8 and 10 too). Response: Shut your filthy whore mouth. Sucking balls was what FF IX was for. But yeah I call dibs on Butz. Once I knew Gilgamesh didn't make the cut I have decided to main him (I'm not buying it but I am friends with a huge FF buff). I know everyone is going to get on their high horse and say it is Bartz but I say to all you haterz on teh Butz that it was Butz in the FF5 I played so it will always be Butz to me. Same with that Aeris/Aerith stuff. What kind of a stupid name is Aerith anyway? Oh well the fanboys will still use the name no matter how stupid it is. Anyway I wonder how Butz plays considering he was from a job based FF? I want mah retardedly broken coin and jump. What can I say I gotta use the guy from the game with the most solid system (except the one that was a rip off of Tactics Ogre....that one was godly). On a unrelated note do Cloud and Sephiroth retain any Mishima moves from their days as Godhand clones? Nope, it's totally Butz and no number of name changes will ever change that. Damn I wish Rikku was playable x.x guess I'll just stick with Terra/Cloud (of course D: )
Shining Aquas Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 I'm probably gonna play Zidane when I get a copy. Not that I've seen any footage from the game yet, I'm still kinda clueless on the gameplay. But, FFIX was my favorite so....
Blade Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 Rumor has it the U.S. version will have adjusted modes for faster playthroughs and revised move combinations. Squall, for example, gets a new aerial spell combo, since his air moves lacked range. This game has Dodge-cancelling and a form of cancelling for when you grind on stuff or run on walls.

Blade Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 I'm guessing because they think Americans are Easy Mode scrubs and need a handicap or that we prefer rpg speed runs. Dunno.
bjholmes2 Posted July 30, 2009 Posted July 30, 2009 I got the demo, this game is very interesting. I had trouble learning everything but other than that, it was great. I can't wait to get this in the mail!
C.Roika Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 The onion knight seems a little broken. He was far and away the most powerful character in the demo.
bjholmes2 Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 It's important to note that the demo is rather different than the full version in that you can customize your moves in the full game. On that note, I hear that the US version will have an Arcade type mode that was not available in the JP version.
Blade Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 As overpowered as you think he might be, lots of things can be against your favor in most battles, especially summons who mess with your BP. Also every character tends to have at least one bad matchup. Tina vs Exdeath Cloud vs Cloud of Darkness Squall vs Kuja Ultimecia vs Jecht Those are just a few bad ones.
bjholmes2 Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 I understand that there is a wealth of new material in the NTSC release, but would someone be kind enough to compile a list? I really like this game; I've played the demo a little too much .
individuals Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 I understand that there is a wealth of new material in the NTSC release, but would someone be kind enough to compile a list? I really like this game; I've played the demo a little too much . i second the asking of this favor. i played this game for a while, (jp version yay) and this game is real deep more than just choosing what character specific skills you want, but also actions such as guard(you want this, but i guess if u want a challenge you COULD....take this off), dash towards / away fromopponent, free airdash, air whatever AAAAAAH!!! its just fun to fight people with certain action skills that make them totally unique. i liek to zidane with dashes set to dash directly away from opponent, as a lot of his attacks have range. just for those who are still thinking about it (who is? you better not be! you are getting this game hands down!), this game is totally worth it. PS : i hope they didnt make EXdeath smarter in vs cpu mode...he was ez to lvl off of :D
i2agnarok Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 Well, I don't know what's been changed other than the stuff in the demo, and the things I can name off the top of my head are: Sephiroth is faster in general. Iai Strike can be canceled via dash, his....err....energy wave (Quick Draw?) move where he fires many off, dashes forward and strikes is a lot faster (and actually usable now). Prison Gate (Aerith Killer stab move) can be canceled for mind games. Cloud seems SLIGHTLY faster on some moves. Squall's Rough Divide can be done in the air and the movement speed is a LOT faster. Someone else SAID that his HP move where he turns red and dashes forward along the ground was better, but I have yet to see it for myself. Terra's Meteor can be blocked now. Good or bad, depending on who's playing her I suppose. That's about all that I've noticed thus far....
Lord_Phoenix Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 I've been looking at getting this game. Is it worthwhile to get this? IT looks sorta mashy imo but I haven't played the demo or anything.
ShinobiBrown Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 It looks mashy because it looks similar to KH (but plays infinitely better than KH). However, considering it's a VS game, if you expect to actually WIN any matches, you won't be mashing. It's a fun game. I had the JPN version of it and enjoyed it a lot.
Blade Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 Mashing doesn't get you far at all unless you mash guard, then you might be lucky. Learning curve goes up for Villains like Jecht who can cancel his moves on certain frames. I don't know if Cloud still has his air dodge-cancel infinite or not, but for sure he'll be strong due to Unblockable EX mode. If anyone wants info on the JP version, there is a Wikia out with move data.
individuals Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 definately not mashy at all. like blade said u can get lucky if you spam guard, but a skilled player who knows their char can punish that ezpz which can lead to a demoralizing counter @__@
Quomple Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 dissidia: Final fantasy is a 3d fighting game for psp fighting game for psp for psp wryyyyyyyyyyyy!? edit: why do you convert my post to lower case? was it too loud for you?
Blade Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 LOL Lou that's awesome! Oh and if anyone wants to know, RPGamer.com is doing a special segment on Dissidia.
Lou_Cypher Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Not mine by the way. Also, I predict gigantic changes to Shantotto...just because of a feeling of mine.
Shining Aquas Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 I've only played the most recent demo, and never seen the Japanese version, so my input is minimal at best. However... I think that if you have a PSP, and you enjoy fighting games or Final Fantasy games (or Kingdom Hearts) even just a little, it would be an extremely wise purchase. I've probably played the demo version a good 17-18 hours thus far, and have only had it for like a week and a half.
