Istillduno Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Low tiers can have braindead easy gameplans and just be bad if the other guy plays perfectly, only really getting outmatched at top level play and high tiers can be stupid hard to actualy tap into the thing that makes them high tier. The low tier hero mentality is utter crap. *ahem* back to the placement discussion Kind of wandering why May is slumming it in the B tier here, her dolphins and ball seem good for moderate screen control and oki, her j2H is a deliciously nasty crossup overhead, she gets 150 damage meterless off her command throw and has a 4 frame jab and a reversal super to help deal with pressure. Is everybody else just that much more nuts that her positives just aren't that special in comparison, or does she have some glaring weakness other characters without meterless reversals don't have that I'm missing. Suprised Ram is top tier btw, guessing it was sword shenanigans on oki and swordless 6543216HS that did that?

Don't forget crazy good meterless confirms off of shit like f.S, along with really strong neutral buttons. AKA: FUCK J.HS

Alkipot Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Hehe, the anti-low tier rage in some posts is hilarious! It's your game, use whatever character you want. You don't owe anyone any explanation for your choices. Just don't be surprised when people give more props to a winning low tier over a winning high tier. That said, I find Bedman fun as fuck regardless of tier. With this being my first GG game I'm glad I'm able to enjoy and grab wins with this snarky bastard. This game, at least to me, feels less likely that I lose nigh-automatically at the character selection screen. Except vs Ram... Because fuck Ram lol.
Vashimus Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Surprised Ram is top tier btw, guessing it was sword shenanigans on oki and swordless 6543216HS that did that? Â Mid / full-screen corner-carry combos with no meter, good mixup with oppressive corner pressure that can convert to full dustloops for huge damage, Trance....she's real good.
Destin Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 WIth sword s her pokes are really good and lead into huge damage on crouching hit, counter. Is there anyone else who gets that sort of meterless damage at that range? Sin maybe? Ky gets a little.
mAceOfHearts Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Sin gets crazy damage off anything on Counter Hit or Crouching Hit. (If he has Calories or Meter, that is)

May is actually pretty good, the problem is that the characters above her outshine her in many ways, and while she does have good spacing and mid range control, her neutral can be outclassed by a lot of the upper tiers.
Destin Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Her oki doesn't seem that oppressive, rather tame really.
Angry Guy of DE Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Honestly a couple of May's normal feel "stubby" compared to the rest of the cast, and outside of RC or command throw she needs to CH with something to do good damage. Also doesn't help that her Resenga(?) if it doesn't hit properly doesn't give her the time to set up a dolphin or ball for oki. Meanwhile Millia j.H will always knockdown and let her start her setplay. Outside of Venom she has the most required use of charge moves and instant air dashes in optimal combos that need certain starters or corner to even do. Her Horizontal dolphin also can be disrespected by ALOT of the cast or even low profiled with ease.
alucard19 Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 so why is sin a tier? just curious on the community thoughts.
Justice7541 Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 so why is sin a tier? just curious on the community thoughts. Persona levels of damage output and gorilla normals is my guess.
Angry Guy of DE Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 He's a very basic character that can turn any hit into 100+ Hell his 623S on wake-up can at least hit around 100 and be able to eat afterwards for what is a DP. I think in time he'll drop in tier since his mixups are rather poor and when people learn to blitz shield his things more. Blitz Shield as a whole isn't used enough to blow up strings that can IB'd to make a gap where blitz shield can reject them.
mAceOfHearts Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 so why is sin a tier? just curious on the community thoughts. Extremely high damage, great normals, pretty good mobility. Horrible mix-up, though, and needs to recharge his specials to be a threat.
alucard19 Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 why is sin mix up considered bad?He has jump dust attack or j.d yrc  in what ever for overheads.
Justice7541 Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 j.D overhead is pretty slow IIRC and not very safe. Not to mention he doesn't really have a guaranteed way to make you sit still for it if you have a good DP or AA and he has a meter limiting the number of mixups he can actually do. Not to mention his throw isn't that good without meter and he lacks a command throw or anything of the sort that would make people really afraid to just block forever.
Notwhoyouthink Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Depends on what you mean by mentality. If someone pics a low tier on purpose just so they have a excuse ya they are a little bitch. But if you just play who you like you and they end up being bad then there is nothing wrong with using it as a excuse to a degree. As for low tiers having braindead stuff or easy stuff. Sure they can sometimes. But not always. Since kenji was brought up, anji and zappa obviously are shitty character in XX and reload. But at least anji in XX had some potential bullshit where he could win some matchs he probably had no reason winning. In reload they took most of those unblockable(ya ya I know technically you can block them but)that did 75% whatever. With out that anji is a pretty rock paper scissors character off a lot of his stuff and none of it is that good. Sure once he starts butterfly stuff he can get some stuff going, but he doesnt have a lot of get out of jail free cards to say where he can win matchs like I said that he shouldnt. So anji in reload has a lot of excuses I think and is legit not a good character. Where as a character like zappa say who is shitty, well zappa isnt a good character but zappa is deff a character that I agree excuses for him dont mattter as much. Because he sucks but he has a ton of potential bullshit where he can pull off rounds randomly. Now of course ive always said though and I still stand by ky is the worst character in that game. He has absolutely nothing in XX. No potential combo or gimmick or trick can save him or get him a round randomly. Low tiers can have braindead easy gameplans and just be bad if the other guy plays perfectly, only really getting outmatched at top level play and high tiers can be stupid hard to actualy tap into the thing that makes them high tier. Digital Watches Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 I can list a ton of things every character has. Without perspective on the actual matchups in the game it's all meaningless. Â Potemkin has a YRCable movement option with super armor and gets huge damage in the corner. Bedman has pretty good moderate screen control with his projectiles and movement. Axl can get ~150 and KD with 50% meter off any hit. Eddie doesn't have any good reversals so he's bad. Everyone has a 4F jab (Except Axl). Â May is where she is because other characters have better stuff, or, to be more specific, because the aggregate of her matchups are worse than the same aggregate for Millia or Eddie or Sol or Ky or Ram or Elph. Tiers are real, but most discussion about tiers is about irrelevant information. Â Who does the character beat? Who beats them? How badly? How does this compare to other characters? That's what determines what tier they're on. What tools they have matters to those matchups, but discussing them in a vacuum is meaningless.
SuperJ Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Everyone has a 4F jab (Except Axl). Â i wish!!
DaiAndOh Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 i wish!! Â Wishing with you. Because why not.
heavymetalmixer Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 i wish!! Â Me too, Millia doesn't have one of those : /
Sytha Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 May, Sol, Elphelt, Chipp, I-no I think are the only characters with 4f normals. Chipp and Sol have 3f normals tho.
