FunkyP Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 i have tried kara canceling 5d into grab, it works, never tried it mid drive though.
Mizzet Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 22NDC? Dash cancel, or is that 5d 22c? IDK, it looks like the 2f extra untech on FC is allowing Noel to move forward a little before 22c'ing again. If shes somehow cancelling 5d though, then
dragontamer Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 22NDC? Dash cancel, or is that 5d 22c? IDK, it looks like the 2f extra untech on FC is allowing Noel to move forward a little before 22c'ing again. If shes somehow cancelling 5d though, then You can kara-cancel 5D in CT. I tested it with both 5DBC and 225DC. However, 5D doesn't move forward on startup, so its completely useless in CT. Noel gets the green trail thingies briefly right before she throws or 22Cs if you do it right. I was unable to get Kara-canceling to work with the drive follow ups (instead of doing a throw, she'd always do (Drive) 5B). I doubt it'd change in CS... especially because this mechanic does exist in CT. Unless there is some sort of weird timing that needs to be done... I'd have to say doing this during a drive followup isn't going to be possible. On the other hand, I'm interested in seeing if this 5D kara improves or simplifies Noel's Haida Loop. Can't really test that in CT... and it'd depend on if 5D moves you further than a simple dash in the same period of time. Another possibility is using 5D BC to improve Noel's throw range at the cost of ~2 frames of startup.
Mizzet Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 Hm interesting, I'll try it out in a sec now that I'm home. I was at the arcade dropping combos for half an hour before I realised I was pressing everything early to compensate for online lag. Edit: Indeed it is possible to kara cancel 5d into bc, actually extends her throw range pretty far if you get the right timing, feels like almost but not quite double the range, not bad. As for using it in haida loops, I either don't have the execution or I'm doing it wrong, I can't get it so I can't test it. If each 22c in that video was cancelled from 5d then that guy gets mad props from me lol.

mooyang90 Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 Wow, for the 6 months I'm been playing CS I'm embarrassed to say I never knew Noel had a kara-throw with her 5D. Her throw-range is ass, this definitely improves it quite a bit. So to confirm: it's 5D->BC right?
Pyanchar Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 Are the invincibility frames active before the throw, too? That'd make it even more helpful. :o
DC Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 No, you have to kara cancel within 2 frames and invinci doesn't start till frame 4.
Mizzet Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 I knew it! Happens to me, too. The worst was that it always happened when I did 214a 2b 6c, would go too fast and end up doing 214a 6c. Oh boy you can guess what happens next. Wow, for the 6 months I'm been playing CS I'm embarrassed to say I never knew Noel had a kara-throw with her 5D. Her throw-range is ass, this definitely improves it quite a bit. So to confirm: it's 5D->BC right? Yeah, it's 5d~bc. I don't know how I didn't notice you could kara with 5d either, lol.
DC Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 Are kara throws really all that useful in this game? Doesn't really seem like it to me. And don't worry mooyang, for a long time I didn't know CH 6c led into 5d.
FunkyP Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 they certainly help seeing as how ass Noel's throw range is the extra start up frames also make it less likely to purple grab
Runis Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 In that vid it sounds like they're Kara'ing 2Shiki (Type 2) into the 22C Unless my japanese is rusty, Type 2 is Bloom Trigger, which doesn't make sense. The 22NDC is just Kara'ing 5D into 22C. or 225D~C
mooyang90 Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 I can't get the timing down for 5d-bc (trying it in CT). Noel always finishes her 5D...when do you press the bc exactly.
Mizzet Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 It's sort of a plink, since the stick never leaves neutral it's basically d~bc, if 5d comes out means you could have pressed bc earlier. Though I am unsure if 5d has the same properties in CT. Edit: Kinda off topic, but I know in SF circles 'plink' stands for priority linking, which deals with how the game engine recognizes button presses and decides which one comes out. But I always interpreted it as a description for the sound you get when you press a button very quickly after another, sort of a synonym for 'piano'.
Nas Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 yea it's a slight pinch of black, and she kara's into throw..you'll hear her 5D and if you did it right it goes right into throw...about 2a's in corner on hit, distance wise (regular throw will whiff, but kara throw doesn't) needs more examination though... edit: maybe you could use it as sort like a roll cancel (although i wouldn't think as roll cancel cvs2 invul) but possibly use it to gain invul while throwing since you basically in invul when you do the kara... i dunno but would seem cool
dragontamer Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 I can't get the timing down for 5d-bc (trying it in CT). Noel always finishes her 5D...when do you press the bc exactly. You press BC within 2 frames after 5D. So almost at the same time. It will look like a normal grab, except Noel's "drive spam aura" will be around her right at the start of it. Personally, I found that 4DBC is more obvious in CT. The 4D motion seems to have a larger aura. Same timing, but its easier to see. Again, this technique is completely useless in CT, because Noel doesn't move during the startup of 5D (or 4D, or 2D, or 6D)
Nas Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 yea in CT looks pretty useless.. but it seems a lot better in CS.. her 5D kara in CS moves her at decent range to warrant a try in matches i feel...
Runis Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 Out of curiosity, does this mean we can get 6-7(if not more) reps of 22BC on Rachel off a corner 3C? Since one of the main factors of only being able to do 5 reps max is spacing.
mooyang90 Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 k, tested it in CS...definitely not as godlike as SFIV Ken's kara-throw...but quite useful nonetheless. Might as well do it for all your throw attempts TBH lol (though I have no idea how pad players will be able to do this...unless you can map throw to one button in this game)
Ichipoo Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 Mooyang, we're still able to hotkey inputs that have 2 or more buttons such as BC to one of the buttons in this game as well.

DC Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 But I always interpreted it as a description for the sound you get when you press a button very quickly after another. LOL Same.
mooyang90 Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gz6EfNCBUt0 Best Noel I've ever seen.
Mizzet Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 Yesss rep that j.4d, that's more j.4d's in one match than the total number of times I've pressed j.4d since CS came out last November. Ahaha, and 1:26 is why I do 3b 6c and not 2b 6c.
Runis Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 I know we're supposed to be dissing that noel for scrubbyness, but shouldn't the combo on a corner 3C be 3C 22BC (66C 22B 22BC)xN 66C 5D 6B 5B 5C jc j.D 6D 236D Fenrir?
