dragontamer Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Yesss rep that j.4d, that's more j.4d's in one match than the total number of times I've pressed j.4d since CS came out last November. Ahaha, and 1:26 is why I do 3b 6c and not 2b 6c. Interesting trick. I'll practice this from now on. 2B takes priority over 6B?
mooyang90 Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 We use 3B because as you can see, if you go from 2b to 6b after a 214a you might accidentally get a fireball motion (and get an optic barrel out..not good). Think of it like a SFIV shortcut. And yes, that's the go to combo for Tager in the corner, but I like to throw in a 4d->236d in there to put them in perfect position for the haida loop. This Noel's good, we should all follow what he does.
DC Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Whaaat? Just let the stick back into neutral. Don't get into bad habits like that. I haven't accidentally 236'd in months. And every Noel on XBL will play like that.
Mizzet Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Lol I dl'd a replay from the first Noel in the ranking list with >70% wins, thought it would be a decent watch. The only stuff he did was random 3c into 22bbbbbbbb, and 6c x N in the corner against someone who didn't know how to barrier block in the air. Oh and drive spam too, not even the coherent kind of spam that mixes up and combos, just random D's that didn't combo at all.

Awesome, so that gives me something to aspire to lol, but seriously how to these people get away with that kind of thing? Do the faster drives just intimidate people more now?
mAc Chaos Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 I've learned that most Noels on XBL don't know what blocking is. They just throw out attacks the entire match and if I stay on defense that's fine but if I throw out even one attack they just fall apart because they'll eat it 100% of the time. :P

Every noel match i see just unhypes me more and more
archling Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 14on14 G3 matches have two solid examples of what Noel is like.

archling Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 That's Kouya. Qualified for SBO. Plays a very turtly and run away noel.
dragontamer Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 Sakkaishi used j.4D twice... and both times managed to land a combo and/or pressure which led to serious damage. Also, Shakkaishi at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yUgVySWnems#t=1m1 uses (blah blah) -> (airborne Litchi) -> 4D -> 236D -> 6C -> 22B 22BC, so 236D -> 6C still combos under certain conditions. Other interesting thing was the (Drive) 5A -> 6D reset here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yUgVySWnems#t=2m10s My biggest hope for Noel right now are resets during chain-revolver combos. CT Rachel's resets scared the shit out of me whenever I played Alzarath... and of course, Carl's resets piss me off. --------- Can someone find me this mysterious Kouya?? I didn't see anything on Youtube with that name. I'd like to see him play :-p
Halcyone3 Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 the noel im talking about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BuKyxMUkt8Y&playnext_from=TL&videos=q61TShy1u1s unless me and arch are talking about different noels without knowing, this'd be kouya didnt seem THAT turtly to me, he seemed like he knew when to rush in a lot better than most noels popping up in videos recently
archling Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 Kouya in 14on14 is featured in parts 4 to 9: here is part 4: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BuKyxMUkt8Y&feature=related He also features in some of the SBO qualifier vids. I don't think Satsukaishi was going for a reset. I think he just messed up lol. He did j.4d 6a 6d instead of j.4d 6a 6c. About resets with Noel. The thing is if your reset fails, Noel is at a huuuuuuuuuge disadvantage because she can be EASILY punished due to how unsafe every one of her moves are. Resets work and are viable if you only end up in neutral game if you fail. It's hard enough getting damage with Noel anyway, so honestly if you get a hit in and are doing a decent damage combo (3k damage), you should finish it. Stuff like 5a on hit into overhead or something like that is relatively safe and is worth trying since you really can't get any damage off of 5a hits EDIT: Yeah, that's the guy. He's turtly to me. Instead of intelligently approaching and inducing the other player to make a mistake, he's waiting for the other player to come to him. Patient guy. It's not a bad thing C_C In fact, the way Noel is designed definitely promotes this approach.

Halcyone3 Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 I hope that Litchi knows that during any part of Noel's drive string she can tsubami gaeshi out o_O maybe she was scared another drive move would have noel pass right through it "shrug". The noel went to win quite a few matches in a row from then on (looses to a litchi later on if i remember correctly) so... either the 14v14 was full of scrubs, or little ms low tier user knew what he was doing
archling Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 14on14 is filled with all the top players of each character from the gamechariot arcades (these guys run the G3 Ranbats)
Halcyone3 Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 14on14 is filled with all the top players of each character from the gamechariot arcades (these guys run the G3 Ranbats) exactly my point, imo, it wasn't litchi not knowing when to DP, but the noel making it hard for her to choose to

Anyway his name is Kouya and he has a love affair with the D button...nothing wrong with that but he just sprays and prays with it. Unfortunately, chain revolver is not a good tool to be mashing. He'll get owned round 1 at at SBO if he doesn't change it up

dragontamer Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORCBqf51SWs WTF? This Noel survives THREE of Hima's Fever modes, and wins both fucking rounds. I want to see this guy in SBO. Maybe we all should learn to mash that D button like he does...
Halcyone3 Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 wow, and here i had these videos on my favorites on YT for more than a month now and didnt post them cuz i figured they'd be up already, guess i should have mentioned/posted them earlier =x
archling Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 That's not Hima. That's Hime. Also, he's not spammy with D. He D's specific things like jump ins, run up pokes, etc. Nobody is baiting those Ds in these set of vids, so he got to do it for free. Noel's normals are very bad as well. So trying to outpoke people is generally a bad idea without drive. EDIT: Honestly, those D's aren't random. I'd say educated guesses that end up rewarding =). I do the same C_C. Also, mashing during drive isn't really mashing either. It's more like: so now I missed my 5d, so they'll likely punish me with (1) a jump in, in which case I'll try to catch them with 4d, or (2) they'll land and punish me, so I'll try to 2d their next attack. Really, what else are you going to do? You've already committed yourself into drive. And Noel is a char where you have to commit yourself into drive if you want damage.

I want to see this guy in SBO. Maybe we all should learn to mash that D button like he does... I had no idea wtf Hime was doing in that match...the minute Noel was cursed she should have been 2c'ing and airdashing close to her and just start raping. Instead he just sat back...and did nothing o_O. He should have known that with curse on Noel, he could have just been mashing 2a and 6a because any drive counter Noel tries will be stuffed by a bug. I doubt Kouya can beat Hime now though...he is much more beastly in his new videos. BTW, the guy in the vid (Kouya) is in SBO...He qualified in a weak area though, so I'm curious to see if he changed his game up for the big boys (haven't seen vids of him in a while now). I'm not hating on Kouya by any means, I'm just more disappointed in Aksys for giving us such a mashy character lol...this type of playstyle might possibly be the pinnacle of CS Noel, and that makes me really sad, because it's not that hard to achieve.
