[CP1.1] Makoto Nanaya's Gameplay Discussion - When's 2.0?
Errol replied to HiagoX's topic in Makoto Nanaya
My suggestion -
I don't honestly have that much respect for his dp when playing against azrael. it does 500 damage and resets to neutral, for me. tsubaki can't handle both of his options easily. it's worse to eat a mash or throw etc. in comparison,if you don't bait arakune's super in the corner, (which can't be safejumped, 5+0 startup (much better than 0+5 startup),etcetc), you probably just lost the round. the whole round. not to say i think he has bad or average defense. growler ruins tsubaki's projectile oki.
-
are you recommending that people non-barrier block azrael on the ground to punish his attempts to use 2c as an antiair?
-
it's totally matchup based, but Yeah. Dogura/NO say Azrael vs taokaka is an even matchup.. the reason it is an even matchup is because growler is almost nonexistent against tao. Risk/Reward really factors in there. Probably going to be quite a stretch to argue that Azrael has average defense after growler is buffed.

hakumen's 6d moves him forward in cp1.1. Dumb movement-drive S tier characters
-
Yup. 5a>5b to OS a backdash is universal except for relius and valk. You got plenty of time to punish tager's backdash if you whiff a 5a. with those characters you have to hard mash 5a and you get almost no damage whether they backdashed, or not. At least valk only has 5f of invuln so you can use a big move to deal with it on wakeup. But still too good. These really short backdashes are also absurdly good in neutral.
-
Consider for a sec what it means to require people to use A mashing. The timing is too tight to do anything on reaction. So you are requiring people to get combos for like 1.3k in the event that the backdash is actually punished. same crap damage if you caught relius upbacking during wakeup. The risk is super low and the reward is super high. twirl is bad but having both backdash and twirl presents a bit of a mixup situation between all his defensive options. And that's just on wakeup, the absolute riskiest time to be doing this. if you actually block and mash backstep during pressure, it's worse. DPs bear a much higher risk and don't have the same level of reward as this backdash. this is the exact same type of change that the air unblockable change was.
-
no, it's not an exaggeration. And are you kidding me. Relius' 5b is arguably the strongest 5b in the game, with massive range and a super fast startup. and his 2a is 7f, pretty much same as everyone else. And his throw is an absurd reward for something you can do of a backstep. backdashing a 5a and getting a counter hit throw is utterly ridiculous.
-
He will have a good backdash in CP1.1. He just won't have a super braindead tool. Let me just check here. Is there anyone actually willing to defend characters having backdashes that can punish whiffing a 5a in the corner. I hope not. I really hope not.

Back to fraudtwirl, I guess one and the same
-
Yeah, you can't use air oki on him, so my general approach is to try to go for absolute max damage. the risk of getting mashed on is higher than the risk of getting growlerd, so I don't bait it very often. With 50 heat he can pretty much full screen punish charging too.
-
agreed. Relius and Valk backdashes were particularly heinous and braindead

GTFO. whiff cancels remove basic options that exist in fighting games and have to be worked around to avoid the negative effects (and remove what would be very useful options). If you drop a combo, you're pretty much getting punished because you just did something with 60f+ of recovery. whiff cancels are very situationally useful for punishing backdashes and that's about it - and usually not very well, because of distance and followups. they're not something you can just choose not to use like a DP. Though I know that getting killed by Kiba will start to make anything seem unfair. As for growler. I never said Azrael gets an ADVANTAGE. I was simply pointing out that, no, you don't get a free hit or pressure on azrael if he uses it. air dash jcc to OS a backdash..that must be the joke...

Don't charge a super long 6c on rachel's wakeup when she can astral you and you're mac man

GGs to the guy who just RQ on me tsubakitoostrong

fine

You can do math that way if you want to decide frame advantage. You can also remember that it doesn't matter on whiff. But whatever you do, you should also remember that you can't subtract numbers to make something disappear. Which is, the extra hitstop that occurs on block, which gives the opponent more time to react and get their -2 frame advantage. An extra 5 frames.
-
GGs. it will become a bad habit when the patch hits. For now your odds are definitely better doing it. What do you need a new friend for. I should be enough.
-
rachel's went from 7 to 4
-
please stop whiff cancelable normals are bad much more often than they are good Growler has no vulnerability. He doesn't "take a hit/allow you to start pressure". He gets put into a wakeup position. which means he either backdashes, or dps, or mashes, or jumps, or pretty much anything he wants to do.

You need to IB the chain.
