[Xrd] News & (Theoretical) Gameplay Discussion

It says that time slows for everything but you when you RC. I find it hard to imagine that wouldn't result in you being slower to block. -

I don't really care about the timeslow, outside of "I BLOCKED THAT DAMN IT BUT LOLTIMESLOW." I imagine it'll look pretty cool, and the standardish RC mixups will be as shenanigans as they've ever been. The timeslow will just make it easier for people watching to tell what's going on. -
CP at $50 is honestly cheaper than I expected. Since CP is way more than just a balance change -- it's probably going to be the most full-featured release since CT -- I'm surprised it's not retailing for $60.

[Xrd] News & (Theoretical) Gameplay Discussion

You seem to be talking about it making it harder to win the match. I'm talking about making it harder to make the right meter management decisions, which is definitely related, but not quite the same. There's just less complexity in the new system, which means less decisions and less things to weigh when making those decisions. When there are less decisions and less options, it becomes easier to make right decisions all the time --and harder to play your character how you most want to play them. It reduces the amount of legitimate choice in the game, which I can only consider bad. And I'm not really sure why one decision in your situation is ultimately harder than the other. On the surface, you have some comfort after your DAA in the current system, since you've still got a 25% option. But really, after that, you're faced with another decision you won't have in the new system: is it better to use this 25%, or hold out for 50%? That decision is gone completely in Xrd; you just hold for your 50% if you choose to DAA. Having to repeatedly make decisions of that nature is what makes the current system harder, in a different way, than the one we're seeing from Xrd. On a related note, you still have more comeback power if you don't spend your meter on a DAA in both systems -- and, arguably, AC's system would reward you -better- for holding your meter since you'd get a maximum of three options (three FRCs/FBs) instead of just one (one RC/super). You're just asking whether or not the 25% option remaining after your DAA makes it easier to commit to. It does, but I don't think one option against none is that much worse of a decision than three options to one. The risk in doing a DAA is higher in the new system, and you certainly are rewarded less for your choice to DAA at 75% in it; however, you're also rewarded less for choosing not to DAA. The ultimate effect in this situation just seems like an overall weakening of comeback power in a momentum-heavy game, which sounds questionable to me. -

I won't deny that either. I think it's possible to do this well. I just think it's harder. A lot harder. This, I completely disagree with. Right now, there's a plethora of tradeoffs you need to choose between, and you're losing that. Basically, the 25% and 75% points on the bar, which were big deals and things that mattered to you because of your FRCs, will no longer matter in the same way. You also won't choose between doing an FRC now and a DAA later, or blowing your 50% meter on one really tricky RC or holding it for multiple FRC shenanigans and combos. It removes decision points, and that encourages a weaker meter management game. I doubt the ensuing changes to optimal FD use will make up for that loss. -

I know this. I was going through your specific example. I assumed you were talking about it hitting, since you talked about frame advantage. Being able to RC -anything- on whiff is part of why I called the system a balance headache. My gut says it's strictly worse. The way tension works in GG right now is excellent, and removing options for spending meter is just going to make GG less meter-centric and less interesting. Meter management is one of the big reasons current GG is a solid game. Kicking 25% moves to the curb entirely is going to damage that. (No forcebreaks listed, no FRCs, so no moves costing 25%.) Even if it's not -strictly- required, there's no difference at high-level play. You'll still be grinding to get the right RC timing, since there's going to be moves with multiple effects depending on RC time, and moves that are excellent when RC'd at frames X-Y but weak if RC'd on frame Z and later or before frame W. It's friendlier to newbies, but it's doing it by mucking up the current balance while penalizing the current high level of play by making an action that used to cost 25% cost 50%. Yes, you can now "FRC" every move for 50%, but that's not worth losing current FRCs over. -

Err, you could already RC moves on hit/block on frame 2, right? That's just a +1 difference from before. It's relevant in some cases, sure, but I don't see how it justifies the increased cost compared to an FRC, and it really doesn't justify the bizarre shenanigans it's bound to cause. You'd still have to hit the button to trigger it at the right time. I'm not sure I get why the slowdown makes things easier, unless you're just saying that the sheer power of the ensuing slowdown would make up for lax timing. Even if it did, you'd still be trying to RC at the most advantageous time possible. -

Being able to RC anything at any time just sounds like a recipe for disaster. It's way too loose, and I think it'll honestly increase exec requirements in the long term, rather than decrease them. And it's not a simplification of FRCs at all. FRCs cancelled your move at the frame you hit the button. You were cancelling it x frames into the move to get a specific effect. New RCs would still require you to hit it at exactly frame X to get the effect you want. There's no difference, except you're paying more meter. The increased meter cost and the ensuing balance headaches make this look like a downgrade from FRCs, not an upgrade. -

Dunno how I feel about RCs slowing time. I get that it looks hype, but when the game is yelling BLOCK THIS RC MIXUP at you with flashy effects, yet you can't, because you're in timeslow, that just sounds like a recipe for salt. I felt that way about timeslow in Arcana. If I wanted input delay, I'd play on netplay lolololol -

Millia's looks mostly similar to what we've got now, but there's only one version of Silent Force (S). I'm confuzzed, since +R just -added- a pin launch angle. Also, looks like roll has followups, one of which is Lust Shaker (?!). There's also a new super -- Chroming Rose. Named after a metal band (not a huge surprise on the naming style). EDIT: Also, wtf no forcebreaks. Doesn't look like anyone has them, but still, what a weird thing to not have -
Under Night In-Birth, PS3 release confirmed (Jul 24, 2014)

Just search for arcade uploads on nico. They're typically in 60 fps. -
Unless you're playing a game or character where stick provides an overwhelming benefit, it's unnecessary over a good pad. I play stick, and I like stick better, but that doesn't mean you can't wreck face on pad: I just think stick is more comfortable, and makes it easier to hit buttons in rapid succession. There are tons of great pad players who show just how possible it is to be successful with a pad, especially in a four-button game like BB or MBAACC. The real reason to play stick is so that, one day, you can LIVE THE DREAM and go body people at JP arcades.

Don't worry, guys. I'm sure Jiyuna will give us the most informed tier list you could possibly get from that loketest. -
It's confusing for anyone who already plays games with numpad notation. Since GG is a numpad notation game, and I'm accustomed to numpad notation, I expect to hear to hear "4C" instead of "forward C" -- so that's what I think I hear unless it's clearly pronounced. It's happened in almost every video.
-
This is a super-nitpick, but could you try to make sure the guy reading the script enunciates "forward" really clearly in the rest of the videos? I keep hearing "4" instead, and that's the exact opposite of what he's saying. That's probably the only complaint I've ever had with these, btw. They're legit.

I'm curious. Does AC actually use different in-match netcode than P4A/CSEX? I could see it using the same netcode but feeling a lot worse without the features in P4A/CSEX that help smooth that out, like advanced input.
-
Sounds like you're just salty when your character sucks, tbh. Haters gonna hate, but I just can't play low tier anymore, unless it's a game where the difference is minimal. It's not worth it.

Terumi is going to be the flashiest character anyone's ever seen, topping both Archer's gdlk Time Kamui and every Johnny player's Mist Finer swag.

0f grabs are way too important to GG to cut. It'd wreak havoc on how wakeup game works and take away a completely universal reversal option. -
that says nothing I demand to see the second coming of Konan, Kuresu, and BatousaiJ

I think it's pretty reasonable to expect it for supers, IKs, and other high-flash animations. -

Holy shit that was fast. By the time we get +R, JP is going to have Xrd ;_;
