I think I've finally QoS'd my way to stable pings this time. The bad news is that it requires me being a total asshat and basically capping everything that isn't mah gaems to like 50% of the total downstream bandwidth [and downloads to less than 20%) ;_; I'll have to do it, since I want to prep for this tournament, but damn is it mean to everyone else. I'll turn the QoS on only when I'm gaming, though.

People's connections can change over time. For instance, if you have cable, you could get more or less subscribers on your node, changing how good your net effectively is. The ISP could've run newer wire, or they could be directing traffic a different way than they used to, too.
