Middle Tennessee Needs Gaming! Monthly Versus Tourneys - Antioch, TN
LastStarSaviour replied to Milln's topic in Locals
Wasn't aware that they were actually running some type of event themselves. Time wouldn't be that big of an issue if we had enough set-ups but if space is going to be limited then it may not be possible, guess we'll see how things play out. -

Calling all those who play, or are interested in playing SkullGirls. To celebrate it's release, i'm throwing a small event for the game this MTN. Depending on how many people join we'll get a 3v3 or something going. Trying to get at least three set-ups for it via Myself, Volpe, Chris, and the others hailing from Starville. Hoping everyone shows up to hype it. Also running an AH3 casuals session to induce interest once again and build up enough for a revival. (Insert ridicule here) -

I'm sad to hear this seeing as you're the ONLY person I can get to have a debate on this issue. Nonetheless, I respect your decision to drop out of our debate. Needless to say i;ve given up all hope on anyone actually choosing to talk with me about these things (depression hits hard now). I'm going to my lonely lab now, and I won't be coming out for a good, long time, Peace out DustLoop. -

It begins NOW!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=oMyHfhddrys Okay, here's a big point i've been stressing in this argument. Okay, now during this video you'll notice that I had Ragna set to use a blockstring of 2A>5B>2C>5C>5D. Now let's look at it (it's really hard to see. Sorry about my crappy camera). When Ragna used the blockstring without me instant blocking any of it, Noel was not at a position to punish him (therefore making his pressure safe and he successfully baited all of my drives, thus re-iterating that Ragna's 5D is indeed a safe tool). Now, I know what you're saying, "well, he didn't instant block it so it doesn't count. INCORRECT! If you keep watching you'll see that later on in the video that I did instant block all of Ragna's pressure ending in 5D. The results being that the only way I could punish him is a 5B as soon as 5D was finished (the combo nets 4.5k plus full corner carry. Something I found to be acceptable). Now, at this point you're saying, you pretty much made our point for us, and it may very well seem that way, but keep watching. Again, I block the Ragna pressure (Both normal and Instant blocking again). Now in this situation Ragna threw in a Gauntlet Hades for the lawls of it, do you know what happened? My 5B got blown up (The only answer to this block-string she has). Yeah, maybe it was a simple guessing game of Ragna's that got rewarded, but the fact of the matter is, it's completely in his favor. I was in a position that the only way I could punish him was to instant block everything after the 2A (if you don't instant block the last hit of 5D his pushback will knock him too far away. You have to instant block it all) and then IMMEDIATELY press 5B. Ragna had all the time in the world to see whether I was going to go for a 5B, drive, etc... If I had waited to see if he was going to throw out the Gauntlet Hades I would've missed my only window of punishment and he would've been able to safely return to neutral. Sure I could've mashed 4D after 5D (even though you had time to bait and punish it accordingly)(and maybe I would've caught your Gauntlet Hades. In which case I wouldn't have gotten much off of the anti-air 4D except Oki). The point i'm trying to make is that on offense, Ragna has no worried. It's Noel who's scared shitless when this dude has her blocking. Lumin, you're my bro and this is the reason that we have fight (I do appreciate your analytical mind and ability to come up with reasonable arguments. You're much better at it than I am and it's the second reason I have to do this. To improve my debating skills). Jackie, you're well...Jackie Now in closing, GET AT ME!!!! -

NO LUMIN! Don't do this to me. You aren't like the rest of them. You're capable of arguing with me, capable of giving factual and logical feed-back. Don't group yourself with the rest of "them" you're better than that and I know it. In your heart you'd never turn down a thesis. You are one who wishes to have knowledge and be able to use it as a force. Don't ever forsake yourself with a bullshit response like this again. You will hear this battlecry and you will see this fight through, even if it costs your life. Because you're that kind of person... -

I did have an earlier comment for this, but this is getting too good for me to sleep anymore. So let's hit on some points you mentioned: First off, I don't recall saying that you can frame-trap 2C with 6D. If I have said something that sounded like that then I probably meant to say that it is very easy to bait a drive using this gatling (Which we are trying to do in this instance). Second, I don't recall ever saying that 2D or 5D were good reversal (never in any of my posts did I say this). Also, you claim that 5A, 5B, 5C, or 2C can't legitimately beat drives clean. I don't know how you came to this conclusion but you might want to go to the lab and check this. Also, you say that this only happens on special occasions in which Ragna or Noel made a mistake. The fact of the matter is, is that the only special occasion that this happens in is if you are purposely trying to bait a drive. In which case it isn't a mistake but a wrong quess (which isn't really much of a mistake to be honest). You say that 5D is a horrible pressure tool (and while I do disagree with that) you did also say that it's good for BAITING AND CATCHING drives. Is that not what we're creating these scenarios off of? Specifically trying to bait and catch drives? Which brings up the question of why the general examples you gave for Ragna's normals being bad matter? If you're trying to bait something it's because you know someone's going to use it. Noel's drives aren't adequate enough to be thrown out at random against legitimate pressure so you're intentionally waiting and delaying your moves or using specific moves which gatling into each other in order to catch the move. Also, why does 3C sending someone to neutral with less reward matter? He gets plenty of reward off of his bullshit and the fact of the matter is at that point he can let the Noel player try and find her way in, which is somewhat difficult against Ragna. Why would a problem arise from putting him in a position where he is strong and possibly stronger than his opponent? That doesn't make sense. You say that I should just let him finish his pressure with 2C>6C. HE JUST PRESSURED ME! Wasn't this whole conversation about how he couldn't pressure Noel? Again, I understand that IB into a poke is effective. It's a thousand times more effective than using a DRIVE which would have gotten punished. But you know, it's not like we're having a conversation on BAITING DRIVES! Also Luminaris or whatever your name is, if you don't have anything factual to add to the discussion i'm going to have to ask you to be quiet. You're more likely to catch my attention with a "you're bad" statement if you give a reason why. I'm not going to acknowledge you otherwise. -

Corrections: 5A (2D, 5D, 4D) 5B (EVERYTHING!!!) 6A (2D, 4D) 6C (2D, 4D, 5D, 6D) 6D (2D, 4D, 5D, 6D) 2C (2D, 4D, 5D, 6D) just lab-tested Now as for all of the following: I agree with the general uses for each of the normals you listed. However, when it comes to 6D being gatlinged off of 2C I don't see what the problem is due to the fact that it can be used in a frame-trap of Ragna's and can stuff some drives. Ragna's 5D is a godlike tool for pressure seeing as you can do a pressure string in which you are so far away from Noel you can reset neutral by throwing out a dead spike that she can't punish. So you just got a good amount of the guess-work taken out of the equation. Also, 3C is also god-like with it being jump-cancelled, making it easy for Ragna to escape the situation and reset neutral. If a Ragna is afraid of playing offense against Noel it's either they don't know how to play offense or they're just too scared to actually try. -

Incorrect my friend. 3/4 of every normal in Ragna's arsenal can kill any of Noel's drives, some can even kill all of them. Ragna is the easiest character to lock down Noel's drive with and the easiest to capitalize off of her short-comings as a character. You can pressure her for free, you can approach for free, you can get damage for free. Yeah, Rags has low life but that's just a slap in the face for us. After all, knowing a character has that little damage but still having them able to say "You're never going to take that shit" is one hell of a feeling. Edit: Congrats Astaroth! -

Nah, Ragna is the only character able to actually use his normals as zoning tools. Mind you this only applies for the Ragna/Noel match-up but still, in order for me to get in I have to spend most of the match baiting his normals. One wrong mistake equals 3k and all I get for my troubles is the chance to apply pressure. -

I'm aware of this, it's quite easy to outspace Noel. The zoning thing I can't say that i've truly been zoned unless by Rags and I think even Mu. If her drive was actually good I would say by all means make them scared of drive. Unfortunately, in real life people don't have to respect them. -

I'm referring to most of the people i've encountered who hail from DL, it's a much different experience than you'd know. Also, I find a lot of DL's information to be a bit untrustworthy Edit: (Guess i'll elaborate on this a bit. I'm referring to most match-ups and what-not. Frame data on the other hand is pretty solid) -

Pretty much. In BB's case, for me it's not about the population of players getting smaller, but the current community of players we have. I find it very hard to enjoy matches with many of the people I run across in the BB community mostly because of their extreme egos and butt-hurt personalities. Plus, most of the ones who are good either just begin looking down on just about anyone they don't approve of or just flat out start trolling the people who are trying to get better. I can tell that for a lot of new BB players it's really hard to get any experience against higher-level players or information for that matter. Everyone has something to prove and it's kind of idiotic. Again though, that's just how things are currently, it might change, then again it might not. -

We don't have to drop BB, but since many of us did say we wanted to play Guilty, then it's still a good idea to start up something anyway. Why ignore the games we want to play just because of it never going to a big tournament? Stop thinking so huge and just worry about starting things up small and having it build over time. I'd rather have five extremely skilled players sitting in a corner and playing as apposed to fifty terrible ones making the game look bad. Let's use the down-time to get good, then try for a revival. Volpe and me have been doing the same thing with AH3. Want to know why we haven't stopped playing it? Because numbers doesn't matter, sure when we get on net-play there aren't many people to practice against. However, we have come across a bunch a really good, dedicated players who still remain and plan to remain for a long time. Thus, they're the people we've been training against and learning from. Think smaller, people. -

The Guilty Gear conversation again? We've talked about this game about 50 times already and we've all talked about how much we like love the game already but we still haven't taken any affirmative action on it. Mind you I do realise that it's a matter of accessiblity for many people but the fact is we have plenty of people who can and have brought set-ups to MTN so we can play it and no one other than a few of us have. If we're that hyped for it, shut up, sit down and play the dang game already. If you're worried about training, don't be. It's actually pretty nice having many of us, excluding gods like Tad start off playing the game at the same time as everyone else (plus we have the guy as a godlike teacher, why hesitate?). I think it'd be the type of thing that would help us grow as a community and really teach us how to get together, discuss, and help each other in a fighting game. Plus, we get that face-to-face human experience. No need to wait for that Net-Play stuff. With that said, I'll try and bring a set-up next MTN (We need to run a side-event or something). If we're going to build the scene back up we need to do it now, not after some XBL/PSN release. I personally want to get into the game (Despite Dizzy being low-as-hell tier). Also Naimat, once the game does release for XBL/PSN you will definitely see a lot more of me. You're the closest person to me in terms of travel distance so you'll become my new lab partner, there's no escaping it. -

Please tell me he hasn't become one of those types who's decided to throw their lives away to become a competitive LoL player. Milln, this is serious. I'm picking you up this Saturday and we're driving down to Midnight's for an intervention. We have to stop him before he makes the biggest mistake of his life. -

It's disheartening seeing as like Naimat I have put quite a bit of time into the game for the sole purpose of playing at a high level and fighting other high-level players also (It's a bit weird to explain these feelings). However, the current decline of the game, plus the character of a lot of the BB community thoroughly disgusts me to a point that I could honestly care less about whether or not BB dies. Don't get me wrong, I would like to see BB do very well and for the community to become a much more open and productive place. But the fact of the matter is, that isn't going to happen anytime soon and by the time it does happen BB will already have been dead. Unfortunately, i'm not the type of captain who goes down with his ship and wait to see this happen. I don't see any of our desire to play as a lie, but rather just a cry that's falling on deaf ears. Especially when there are two games (Persona 4 Ultimate and Under-Night In-Birth) that I can see myself putting time and effort into becoming a respectable player. Even if all the time I spent playing BB goes to waste, I don't mind any of it. Since all of those times i've laughed, raged, felt pissed at myself as a player, and felt content with myself as a player. I'm a young wolf willing to tackle these new games with a new mind-set, heart, and a hunger for competition. Leave the past that is BB behind, and look forward to enjoying new games and new experiences is the way i'm looking at this anyways. Whoops, it seems i've rambled on longer than expected. Anyways, time to venture into the uncharted new worlds that are P4U and UNIB. If anyone needs me when they release, i'll be there, ready to claim my limitless future. That's my LastStar lease on things. -
