Middle Tennessee Needs Gaming! Monthly Versus Tourneys - Antioch, TN

If you watch the first vid, Ragna blinks blue several times throughout the combo because there's more than one SMP move. It's red, but it's still techable. -

It's funny how with this entire selection at hand, we'll probably be playing Melty Blood and Guilty Gear over everything. -

Haha, I just wish setting up netplay was less of a chore. I've also been dabbling in Street Fighter, and I've learned I can't play this game for shit. Still pretty fun tho', lol. -

Did you set the dummy for damage reduction? In a match that's more like 3-4k. Still pretty good, but no longer holy-shit-half-your-health-is-gone. -

I wasn't saying it wasn't prevalent, just that it wasn't the best option that players would be using most of the time. Using an air throw ender is an opportunity cost that doesn't compare to the power of characters with combos that lead to true oki. The only real benefit they have over damage + oki is corner carry/corner reversal, or sometimes conserving meter. -

I want to preface this by saying that I'm not trying to tear down your opinion. I just wanna clear up a couple misconceptions so that people who're interested in Melty don't get the wrong idea. I can dig it. I think you haven't fought enough people, though. Actually, some characters have combos that are mostly or entirely ground oriented. (Len, Kouma, etc.) From what I've seen it's the opposite. It's not the same as a hard knockdown, and it definitely isn't the best option for a lot of characters because the oki it gives you is the worst in the game. Unless your character is stunningly fast and your opponent's is slow, if your character relies purely on air throw enders (so far the only ones I've seen like that are Ciel and Nanaya), they tend to have very little in the way of oki. 80% of the time it resets the game to neutral, and the other 20% you're left throwing out fast meatys or throwing out an EX projectile at best. The best oki in the game comes from characters who can sacrifice the throw ender and opt for another variant of their combo. They typically use throw enders to escape the corner and put their opponent in their place, or else bring your opponent out of midscreen toward a corner. After that, I usually see players going for oki if their character is capable of it. The only character (so far) that I've seen capable of getting true oki off of an air throw ender is Archetype Earth, and even then it appears she can only do it off of a very specific hit-confirm. On that note, converting F-Aoko's combos into oki is mad hard for me. I thought my thumbs were immune to pain by now. Turns out they aren't. -

I got there by day 2. What about it don't you like? What sets them apart from more traditional combos with extra corner carry? -

Fuck yeah, man. That makes me wonder. Who all is actually interested in playing Melty? You know you want to! I know so far we've got Woz, Kain, Star, Midnight (IF HE EVER SHOWS UP), myself, possibly Milln, and I'm sure Jackie would be into it. I'm sure Tad would play it just cuz. If Justin would actually come out to events, we could get a decent sized little group going and maybe a nice character spread. Not to mention it might give other states that extra push to come out to our tournies. What do you guys think? We've got 2 setups for it, 3 if Kain can get his to work/doesn't mind dragging his pc to tournaments. Being able practice shouldn't be a problem (outside of, you know, actually having time for it) for any of you (unless you're averse to torrents and don't want to drop money on it) as long as you've got an average PC. -

I'll bring a ps3 with Skullgirls, Guilty Gear, SSFIVAE, and Arcana Heart 3. If I end up driving myself I'll have a tv too, but I'm crippled so I'll need help carrying it. -

It might just be Aoko, but I noticed that the better players substitute max-damage combos into throws for slightly less damaging combos so they can follow you to the ground and apply oki instead of throwing. There might be other characters that don't have to worry about it, but as far as I can tell throw enders are mainly for corner carry, every other time the best option is to take an alternate route for oki. I was just saying that because Melty Blood is the shit, and Persona won fighting game of the year. -

Yo Persona, I'm really happy for you, I'mma let you finish, but Melty Blood is one of the best fighters of all time. OF ALL TIME. -

Caravan Palace? Shiiiit, I think you just won this thread. Also, good luck with fl. I was interested in becoming a producer, but I can't do shit with just an interface. I need some hardware in my face, and at the prices that asks for it's something I won't be able to do for awhile. In the time this gave me to think about it, I've had my interest drawn to more traditional instruments(as if that's any less expensive, ha). I've been considering the cello or violin, and I definitely want to try the sitar. I love those trippy ass riffs, they're so delicious. As for me, I miss my old collection. I completely forgot about these three when I first posted. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZckIyXQE83I http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QjfoCTuPrGY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zez2Cg3m4fs (God. . . that intro.) -

Kain beat you to it. IMPOSSIBLE. Personally I think Naimat, Kain, and Minionman have excellent tastes because they listen to stuff I can really dig, but that doesn't mean no one else has good taste. Klein listens to some pretty awesome stuff, even if it's not what I tend to listen to. I don't get Milln's stuff aside from the classics, and Woz and I seem to be on somewhat different wavelengths when it comes to electronic stuff, but that's just how music is. It does different things for everybody. -

Not yet. The galactic alignment thing isn't supposed to happen until a single instant across the world. I think it's 5:11 AM or 6:11 AM for us. And no I'm not trying to tell you it's gonna happen. It really is just an alignment of celestial bodies. The Mayans were just bomb ass astronomers and this is allegedly when we're supposed to enter the astrological age of Aquarius. -
