The OFFICIAL Guilty Gear Canon Plotline Q & A Thread

I was, something like... 2 years ago when there were only partial translations. Where is it now? (Edit: nevermind, found 'em.) Ah, ok. Now I remember Viltania. -

^No. What are Calronia Kingdom and Viltania? I've never heard these names before. Are they from the novels somewhere? -

...Yup, that sure is some gourmet cooking right there. But boy that Fuuenken is useful. Three-in-one Gear killer, grill, and dryer! -

I *believe* it's in the timeline provided in the GGX Drafting Artworks mook. At least that's where Ed Chang's timeline cites it from, iirc. -

Well I think it's probably easy to assume he's -capable- of cooking, but that doesn't make him a master chef. It ain't exactly hard to roast a hunk of meat when you have a flaming sword at your disposal, just saying. And Sin is pretty much a stomach on legs, judging from his profile information, so he's probably not much of a judge of fine cuisine. -

About Sol smoking: I always thought this was fan conjecture as well, as there was never any mention or art of it before, but I recently noticed that in the top right of those sketches in the back of the Overture Materials is the first official image I've found to show him with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth in canon (at least it certainly looks like one; I suppose it's debatable though since this image is so sketchy). Plus it's pretty clearly stated in That Man's backstory that Fred often got in trouble for smoking in the lab. So it seems perhaps he's at least an occasional smoker, if anything. Also Daisuke did mention in the Overture interview that because of Sol being a brilliant scientist, he's invented and built himself various trinkets (his portable record player, his headgear- not to mention the entire Outrage), so that's probably where 'building small machines' comes from. About him cooking though, that's a load of crap. A thought pertaining to the picture of Sol roasting meat you mentioned from the back of the GGX Bible: Another thing that seems to persist in fanart is the idea that Sol's ponytail is somehow fake/detachable/connected to his headgear and not ...his head, lol. It seems to derive from old art like that one and that one frame from his GG1 ending that shows his gearbrand, where it looks like he has short hair. IDG why people still seem to act like it's the case though, when it's pretty clear this has either been thoroughly retconned or was just lazy drawing to begin with. We see when Order-Sol's headgear breaks in his Dragon Install Sekkai that his hair doesn't just suddenly fall off. :8/: -

Ahhh, you know, I hadn't thought about that point. That would explain it, for sure (especially by the looks of a lot of the Shang burial grounds I've been looking at, which were oriented slightly skewed). -

Actually, the reason I realized that wasn't from Wiki (I was linking that for convenience) but from lectures and readings on Daoism I've been doing for a class lately (I'm by no means a major on that in particular, but..). The Cardinal point South = Fire thing is pretty important, though, which is why I noticed and brought it up at all. -

Kitsoru replied to Blade's topic in Zepp Museum
BTW Blade; on your Outrage explanation thing, your 8 Phases are laid out incorrectly. Fire is always South, not West; Earth is center in the 5 phases but southwest in the 8. Water is North (that's why the Pokemon Suicune is the North Wind :U), and so on. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Ching#Trigrams FWIW, South is the cardinal direction in China (not North like in western ideas), and Sol, the Fire user, is the main character. Daisuke u so clever (but yes, also weird.) EDIT: I also just recalled something; in one of the PWAB reports in XX (Jam's maybe?) I clearly recall them stating the '5 magical arts'. Now, that would of course be Fire, Water, Earth, Metal, and Wood. But in the same report they state that Ki is one of the 5 arts. So unless Ki is somehow counted as Wood or Metal or something like that (MAYBE Earth?), did it get retconned into the 8 trigrams, instead? Hm. I think the phases also vary slightly between the Chinese and Japanese versions of the 5 elements though, and I'm not completely sure which one Daisuke is using at this point... -

Interesting... a possibility then, I suppose. Wasn't Kliff dead by the end of GG1, though? So of course the PWAB wouldn't be trying to analyze/capture a dead guy (unless we're getting into necromancy but that's another thing entirely). -

Now that I think of it- since GG's magic is based on the 5 Chinese Phases/elements, Mountain or even moreso Valley seems like it would fit more (if one were to say Ki would be associated with Earth or Heaven). -

Huh, I always suspected that but wasn't sure since stuff like the PWAB reports seemed to make a point of singling out Ki users in the game. But is he outright stated as being a Ki user in NoK then? -
Analysis/Commentary/Review/Discussion of GG's story

LMFAO what are you talking about? Bruce Wayne IS Batman, in the main continuity of comics, in the DCAU, in the movies (I'm not sure which continuity you're referring to- it does get iffy in some AU's). This isn't an arguable point at all, unlike Faust = Baldhead, Aria = Justice, Sol = Dizzy's father, etc. In any case my point is you asked why other people THINK that Justice = Aria, I gave you an answer. Obviously it isn't proven yet; but people are going to latch to what seems the most logical- they don't like being jerked around. Yes, we KNOW, it's not proven or clearly stated yet. Anyone that pays attention knows this. But it's a likely theory, and for many people (not me, but I'm speaking the general audience) that's close enough. Obviously it would be better to think 'PC' as you put it, but you gotta just realize that people aren't going to. Not everyone gives enough of a damn. And yes, the wiki is full of ridiculous info like that (and those idiotic paragraphs of Blazblue comparisons in the notes, and incorrect profile info, etc). I considered going through and cleaning it up a bit but it's so poorly run I didn't see a point when people would just change things back. :/ -

Kitsoru replied to danceljoy's topic in Guilty Gear General
Well no of course not, but the Guilty Gear wikia is pretty awfully kept up anyway. :P But you were saying why do people keep saying Aria = Justice, and well.. it's because the evidence is pretty damning that she probably (keyword: probably) is. -

Kitsoru replied to danceljoy's topic in Guilty Gear General
...But it's still heavily implied. Sure we don't 'know for a fact Justice is Aria'; but the evidence presented makes that theory incredibly likely- about as or more likely as the evidence we have of Frederick being Dizzy's father, really. And really, most of the things we assume about in Guilty Gear are just that. Implications. Daisuke almost never confirms anything (hell, he still hasn't confirmed Baldhead and Faust are one and the same, and pretty much everyone takes that being fact for granted). -

Kitsoru replied to Blade's topic in Zepp Museum
Right, we know she exists. The question is who/what is she, and the only reason I care is because Daisuke supposedly said there is a story behind her existence that he will explain at some point. I wouldn't care what it is if it was just there to look cool. -

AFAIK the sprites in AC+ are exactly the same as XX's (not counting new attacks and characters, naturally) so I would assume so. -

Kitsoru replied to Blade's topic in Zepp Museum
That image also came to my mind, but X and XX take place only a few months apart (and LtA is inbetween...). So she couldn't have changed that much without some serious timey-wimey business. EDIT: The thing stating Leopaldon is a servant of That Man mighta been from a magazine article, now that I think of it- but still, a more or less 'official' source. I never did find out whether that was true or just rumor, though. -
The OFFICIAL Guilty Gear Canon Plotline Q & A Thread
Kitsoru replied to Blade's topic in Zepp Museum
Do you mean that one illustration from LtA? I don't think she's supposed to be a child there, it's probably just Daisuke's rather wonky grasp of proportions lmfao (And besides that, that illustration was done before XX came out, so her design hadn't yet been finalized anyway.) Well about that, that's clearly the 'basic' reason I suppose, but it seemed like earlier in the thread there was some implication that there's a specific reason she hates them and Dizzy specifically, that's what I'm specifically asking about- if there was some implication of her actual specific origin in recent story info that I missed. As another aside, I seem to recall post-Isuka everyone was pretty darn sure that Leopaldon (the guy riding IN the Gear, not the Gear itself) was That Man's 4th servant and that much was stated in the Isuka mooks or something, but reading more recently people seem to be unsure of who the 4th servent is. So was that ever confirmed or debunked? -

I think it's more that he just has a thing for old European styled symbolism/architecture (which has lots of those things), after all he really seems to like harping on the Christian religious symbols too and it's probably for that reason. Much of Guilty Gear's stage seems to be pretty Eurocentric (regarding the events of the Crusades, it being the Order's base of operations, political movements in Europe you mentioned in Ky's Overture materials on the last page). EDIT: Okay, so I was reading through here and saw mention of I-No's background. I haven't really played through her AC+ story much so I'm not sure if I missed it there, but where was it said that she was born during the Side Red alternate timeline? I don't recall that ever being stated in the drama CD's themselves. If that's the case though, I guess that would explain why she seems to hate Dizzy and Gears in general so much. -

Yeah, in the sprites for Rising Force, a woman (in the fetal position iirc) forms within the lightning effects right before Ky pushes it into the opponent. I don't remember at all where I read it (possibly someone asked at one of the American cons Daisuke came to in the past couple years?) but Daisuke apparently stated that there was a story behind the woman in the attack and that he would explain it 'some day'. But since I don't remember where I heard this, I can't say if it's definitely true. :S -
The OFFICIAL Guilty Gear Canon Plotline Q & A Thread
Kitsoru replied to Blade's topic in Zepp Museum
Yeah, it was implied, but I figured it was a symbolic implication. :8/: (And the woman in the MG doesn't really look like Dizzy apart from having wings.) Nah, these summaries are enough to hold me over, at least. I was just curious what happens at all, since it didn't seem like there had even been any quick-and-dirty synopses of them yet. -

Wait. So she literally laid an egg? I'd thought that fanart stuff was just fanon for the lulz... EDIT: danceljoy, do you mean the illustration in the top left of this page? http://i.imgur.com/OxwMO.jpg Or did you just mean the colored one where he's sitting in the tree? -

Just thought of something else. I recall reading before that Daisuke said there's a story behind the woman that appears in Ky's Rising Force sprites. Does anyone know if that has yet to be explained? -

Thanks a ton. Sin's story sounds really interesting, and I guess confirms what pretty much everyone has been assuming about what's behind the eyepatch. Is there any idea how old he is (either in body/mind or actuality) during that story? And well, I don't really blame Sol for being a little pissed or having a 'You did what!?' reaction.
