  1. I can kind of understand this...just a little bit. In older fighting games like Street Fighter 2 there were no command lists at all. Special moves were hidden secrets that you had to figure out (at least to me and my friends they were). It felt kind of good fighting my friends with a "secret" technique that I figured out my character could do, and now that every game comes with a command list that sense of mystery is gone. Special moves aren't really....well...special anymore.
  2. There could be another factor that could explain why it is really difficult for you to win (that no one ever seems to bring up). It could be your setup. I.E what kind of TV you are using and the delay it causes. Chances are if you are using any kind of huge flatscreen TV you have significant input delay. I started out on an HDTV with significant input delay (and I wasn't even using game mode). Switching to a standard CRT was a godsend. And even now, I notice that I am noticeably worse when I play on my newer LCD HDTV. The delay just makes reacting to things harder.
  3. Uhh I have a sort of gimmicky thing I do from time to time with Cosmic Ray lvl2. Anyways Cosmic Ray lvl 2 starts up really quickly, has a frame (dis)advantage of -1 and leaves you right in front of your opponent (even if they were using barrier). You can use this to your advantage in blockstrings against characters who have 7 frame (or slower) 2As (which is roughly half of the cast). The best they can do is trade with you and their 5As will whiff. Note: This doesn't work against characters with 6 frame jabs that hit crouchers, so people like Bang, Azrael, Taokaka, Makoto etc will beat your 2A. However, what makes it even better is that it can easily lull your opponent into a false sense of security. Using Cosmic Ray lvl 2 makes it look like you messed up your blockstring, which will prompt most people to mash 2A mindlessly. On top of that the timing of when they have to hit 2A in order to trade is tricky because you have to do it earlier than what you would expect (You have to hit 2A when Makoto's front foot hits the ground). Most people will just get hit in the face by your jab because they got the timing wrong.
  4. I can commentate Nerd.I have a PS3 mic. I-I just hope I'm not to nervous.
  5. I have no problems with whatever character my opponent decides to pick, even if it is my worst matchup. Sometimes you just really like a character who happens to be top tier. It all depends on how my opponent handles using a strong character. What makes me mad is when people try to make you feel bad or tell you that you suck when they were using a character who matches up well against yours. That's like bringing a gun to a fistfight and thinking you won because you're more skilled than your opponent. At some point you have to realize, "Wow, this matchup is ass for my opponent. The odds are definitely stacked in my favor." Selfish people, however, seem to have this train of thought........: "Haha. I won. You lost. That means you suck balls and I'm the greatest ever. Let me rub it in your face and tell you how bad you are." I guess what I'm saying is that I hate people who brag about themselves and put down other players...ESPECIALLY if they use one of the best characters in the game. (Bonus points if they are doing it to a person who has only been playing the game for like a week <-- Seriously WTF is wrong with people who do this. Are you so insecure that you have to style against noobs to feel good about yourself?)
  6. Thanks guys. Only on day 3 (lol), so I gotta learn to incorporate all of this stuff into my gameplan (especially the lightning BS). *Sigh* Just wish I was into money when this game first came out T_T. (On the bright side, this is the only time my favorite character in a game is actually good)
  7. Hmm...I doubt anyone still checks this but... Does anyone know what the invulnerability is like on Tamaki's command grabs? I looked at the frame data on the wiki and I didn't see any info on the invuln.
  8. Just bought this game. Learning Tamaki (my first grappler). Should I do this, or will I hate myself? All I wanna do is just crush people's faces...
  9. Well I had someone drop out of the tournament. So there's room for one more. LPRD, you asked first, but you haven't posted your PSN. Please post your PSN asap, so we can key you into the brackets. Omnix, you asked next. So I'll go ahead and put you in the spot...but If LPRD updates with his PSN I'll key him in.
  10. Fighting games get a little harder when you can't turn into a log to get out of everything. Also...Arc to make the next Naruto game?
  11. Alright Stargazer gave you the basics. Best mixup comes off of 2A in the form of: 2A > 2B (Low) 2A > 6B (Overhead) 2A > B+C (Throw) [You can also do 2A > dash > throw] 2A > 2A/2B/5B/5C (Frametrap) ----------------------------------------------------------------- But there are creative [AKA: Gimmicky] ways to open up certain types of opponents... Blocking Specialists: Some people have good reactions and are able to block your overhead and throw attempts almost every time. For these people you have to get a little bit more bold/tricky. If they stop your 2A into high/low mixup every time, you can add 2A > 5A (Whiff) > 2B into the mix to try and confuse them (Fake overhead). The startup for 5A and 6B look similar (Makoto stands straight up before attacking), so if they are trying to react to 6B's animation, they'll stand up for 5A then get tagged by 2B. Furthermore, 5A (Whiff) > 2B (24 frames) and 6B (22) frames have almost the same timing, so it will also beat people who try to use the rhythm of your attacks to block your mixup. Alternatively...you could just try to throw them if they block your high/low every time. There are some gimmicky ways to slip throws in during your blockstrings too: Stuff > 214A~A > Throw (This one's a classic, and it can be done after any normal) 214A~C > Throw 5CC > Throw Stuff > 214C~D (Whiff / Land) > Throw (A squirrel gets laid every time you land this on someone) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There are also techniques to stop people who are good at teching throws. The most well known is the Throw Reject Miss setup. In a place where you would normally throw, do 2A > Purple throw instead. If they thought you were going to throw and tried to tech, they'll get the "Throw Reject Miss" message, and you can combo them. The simplest way to do this is: 2A > 66 > Throw (Normal throw setup) 2A > 66 > 2A > Purple Throw ("Throw Reject Miss" setup) But it's best to go for a TRM wherever YOU would normally do a throw. If your opponent uses B+C to tech throws, you can also fake a throw then jump. If they bite you can hit them out of their throw animation's recovery. Some ways to do this are: 2A > 66 > 7 (Backwards jump) > j.CC Stuff > 214A~A > Jump > j.CC
  12. Hey, I want in this as a reserve Nerd...just in case
  13. Lol all that stuff was tounge-in-cheek. Just trying to get people pissed so this will actually happen
  14. What exactly do you need to commentate? Do you just use the PS3 mic or is it through like skype or something?
  15. Well, unfortunately, registration just closed. However if you post your PSN, I'll be sure to enter you if anyone drops out.
  16. 10 v 10 would be hype if we have this many people. Plus we need to enact sweet and painful revenge on Gamefaps.
  17. Why in the world did so many people sign up for this tournament? It boggles the mind @_@ The prizes are just a couple of PSN cards...Speaking of which, why PSN cards? Is it illegal to dole out cash prizes?
  18. Hahaha! Nerd is this some kind of joke? Dustloop will crush all of the stylish Ragnas on Gamefaqs. What about people who post on both? Do they get to pick whichever side they like the most? ...and wait...ANOTHER showdown! Has this happened before??? Anyways I'm not signing up now because there are much better representatives for Dustloop. However, if DLoop doesn't have 5 people then I'm in.
  19. A combo for when you successfully parry but put yourself IN the corner: Parry > Space Counter lvl 3 > RC > OD > 2D > 66 (dash under) > 5C > 5D > 214A~C > 236D > 2C > 214B~D > 214A~D > 623C~D > (tk) j.623C~D > 236236D DMG: 7077
  20. Does anyone have any secret defensive techniques or option selects? (Other than the obvious: neutral tech > 1+A+B+C to block and tech throws) I say this because I played a Tager who said he was option selecting my mixup/pressure. I assume he was doing something like 123698741+A whenever there is a low in my blockstring (pressing 1 blocks the low, but if I did an overhead or a throw, the extra time it takes for those actions to come out gives him enough time to 360A me out of them). For jump mixup I assume he was doing 4123698741+A (which would work in mostly the same way). Does anyone know enough to fill me in on this? Again I may be wrong about the exact technique he was using, but I NEVER caught him trying to do a yomi 360/720. So I think he was doing some sort of safe option select. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I've only come up with one defensive option select, and it's against Tager's Gadget Finger: After you get Gadget Fingered press 191 really quickly (with an optional A+B+C thrown in). If Tager tried to command grab you, you will super jump away. If he tried to do the standard 5A > 5B > stuff, you will block the 5A and have your input back at 1 in time to block 5/2B. It doesn't work against everything though: GF > 5B, Collider, AirDriver, and airthrow will still get you. Is there any universal stuff like this that I may be missing out on? Assume that I have no clue about even the most obvious stuff that has been around since CT/Guilty.
  21. It can be tough especially online, but I'll try to help with the timing. Obviously hold a button to emergency/neutral tech. Once your character flashes and starts the tech animation you want to watch them. The key is to make sure you're hitting the attack button as soon as your character's feet hit the ground. The timing depends on how fast you do the DP motion, so you'll have to experiment with that yourself. It looks like you use Platinum and Noel...so I assume you're talking about Plat's reversal. For that one you have to start holding down right after Plat starts the tech animation or you won't have enough charge to do loli jailbait. But again, the key to doing wakeup DPs is to hit the attack button as soon as your character's feet hit the ground. ...And Axle you can also put your PSN in your profile info so that you don't have to type it everytime.
  22. I think he means 11 songs and not 111 lol. But thanks for such a detailed description of what each song is.
  23. QQ T_T I guess I'll just have to get really good then. As of 1.1 I'll no longer be able to fraud it up as Makoto
  24. Please tell me the hieroglyphs next to B don't say "Makoto" Star?
