[Xrd] News & (Theoretical) Gameplay Discussion
Uncivilized Elk replied to Shinjin's topic in Guilty Gear General
It's really no use bothering. We've been through this hundreds of times before. Making the game slightly more accessible to beginners by simplifying some inputs (ohgod Chemical Love inputs consists of 3 less numbers - the horror!), giving some things auto-jump installs, making YRCs not need several frame-perfect timing like FRCs, and giving XRCs time slowdown for combo aid (while still retaining ****ing hard as hell to pull off combos/loops anyway for pretty much every character) doesn't make the entire game more basic or simple. It's laughable because all of GG's core concepts are retained for Xrd, the only real huge shift is trading in FRCs for YRCs and PRCs, which alone by no means makes the game basic or simple. There is no other change that is on a fundamental enough level for this game to somehow be below +R in complexity. Your entire argument rests on the premise that YRCs+PRCs replacing FRCs makes this game less complex than P4A or BB. Guess what, I'll easily claim that +R stripped of FRCs entirely is STILL more complex than BB or P4A. And I even asked about the speed thing several pages ago after the demo launched. The game speed is nearly the same, the (extremely) mild slowdown is incredibly hard to notice according to every single person who has played the game and posted in this thread so far. Again, this has repeated countless times in the past. This joker thinks stating "the game is simpler and slower!" without extrapolating or explaining anything beyond those stupid claims is considered 'debate'. He STILL cannot comprehend that stating a conclusion (which saying the game is slower, simple, and basic IS a conclusion) without supporting evidence isn't presenting argument, it's just stating a viewpoint. He may as well be stuck in a perpetual state of troll without knowing it, because he basically serves the same purpose. -

Do you have to jump install for optimal air combos off 2H in the same manner as you jump install in +R? Or can you jump cancel 2H now? I've seen videos of 2H being followed up with jump normals but can't recall the details.- 260 replies

How's undertow in this game for reading opponents? Also what does charging it do and what scenarios would you want to charge it?

Exchanging FRCs for YRCs doesn't suddenly make the game really simple. The game is also barely slower (it's hard to notice a difference), as has been confirmed by a multitude of people. But please, go on. As for the El topic... there's really no need to discuss it with somebody who is literally claiming that making a change to the design makes no change. -

Is there even blood to begin with in Xrd? That might help its teen rating as well, though I feel the 'careful descriptions' hypothesis fits best in general. You're gonna have to specify what you mean by "difference", as many combos are different in the literal sense of the word different. The stringed attacks are no longer the same (because some moves are gone, obviously, playing a major factor). Do you mean generic combos like (CH) 2H jS djS djH djDP feel really similar to ACR because of the hitstun and gravity are similar, or what? -

Except every single other aspect of her design isn't sexy. I-no has a sexy design (and a personality to match it). El's design is (quite literally) titillation, purely for the sake of titillation - just shoving a ridiculous boob window on any random set of clothes is about as half-assed as you can get when you're going for a 'sexy design'. I'm sorry - wut? -

I wish that cover was El's actual design. -

Uh, in case you can't read Japanese? It is not an uncommon demand to have the Japanese voices for EVERYTHING. It's considered pretty standard until ArcSys' recent moves. If I had to choose I'd rather have no English dub whatsoever if they're going to restrict the Japanese dub to just in-fight phrases. Hell, for Xrd I'd think they'd offend more people with the partial Japanese dub stuff they are doing than from having no English dub. -
Oh nooooo. Well, it's fine. More fun that Xrd Ky and +R Ky are different. Will adjust my greed server-heavy playstyle accordingly for Xrd.

Since Xrd will have an English dub, though unlikely, I would love to have the ability to set voices as either dub on a character by character basis. If Jam ever comes out as DLC, for example, I would like to try her English dub, because the Japanese dub sounds like nails on a chalkboard. -
Does that only work on larger characters or can the fire pillars still hit the smaller ones?

Um... if you see 4 bars, that means you have 4 bars with that person, no? -

Yeah, didn't the developers say the time freeze is supposed to help beginners get a better grasp of the situation and follow-up combos better hence the time freeze? personally I don't think this was ever that big an issue that it needed time freeze. But I never played the game so maybe it actually feels fun. -

So, I've heard a few people recently make the "I'm not too hyped for Xrd, it looks slow compared to +R" complaint. So now that a lot of you have the demo, what is y'alls thoughts on it? Is it indeed slower? If so by how much? Is it the same but the time freezes on the YRCs and RCs create a sensation that it's slower? Or is it pretty much the same when it is running at 60 FPS in front of your face? -
Any benefits to the new jS or is it all losses?

Digital versions are cheaper by however much tax your area has, unless you buy retail online like almost everyone else, in which case it is identical. -

I can only take that as good news! Now here's hoping the PS3 version is identical except in resolution... and I guess an extra few seconds in loading never killed anyone. -

So anybody who has never played the game before until this demo wanna describe the visuals and feel in more than one word? I'm sitting here wishing I had a PS4 (no way am I dropping that doe though). -
[Xrd] News & (Theoretical) Gameplay Discussion

What is this thread even for exactly? Each character has their subforum for "theoretical gameplay" (which seeing as the game has been in arcades for a while, is largely not even theoretical anyway). We have a separate news thread for Xrd below this one too for updates on actual news. So really, what is it that we are supposed to talk about? Pretty much every discussion here that isn't already better suited for a different thread or subtopic has resulted in somebody saying "please stop with ____". -

Slayer subforum covers that a bit. I can't adequately summarize it without re-reading it myself. (I'm playing Slayer no matter what anyway so it doesn't matter to me much.) Basically he has a lot of changes in terms of what he lost, including having links errrywhere and being able to combo from errrrything, but somehow he still ends up being pretty damn formidable (I'm not competent enough to explain how, but watching gameplay videos will sort of do that anyway). -

Oh god I hope they heavily revise The Bedman in future iterations. The Dark Sheet better return anew. -
Then I'm looking forward to some new insane stuff next tourney! But seriously, even if you weren't your best, you 3-0'd both in losers and winners finals... so you need some tougher competition, haha.

Wow, I'm the exact opposite. I thought Bedman looked the coolest too but his playstyle makes me want to play him least out of all the characters in Xrd. -

You should be able to; it would a stupid trial that makes literally no sense as you can't get the exclusives you're trying the trial out FOR. Perhaps you can't keep the games or play them when PS+ runs out, sure. But no way in hell will you be barred from downloading them due to it being a trial.
