Arizona "Arcsys Release Dates Give Us Erectile Dysfunction", Thread
Orrax replied to Chumaralupa's topic in West Coast
I've made some pretty significant progress already, and it's damn good. I think I still like the first one better at this point, but that's not saying much against Portal 2 considering how much I loved the first one. And I guess I will stop by as well, then. Probably a bit after 6 just because it takes me longer to get there. -

I was going to say that if no one else is going and Tempered's planning on watching The International anyway, I'll probably just stay home. But if people are going, I'm down to play some games; just let me know. Otherwise I might just stay in and play Portal 2 (because I finally got around to getting it). -

Taking out a tool/option isn't necessarily good or bad, imho. If it's a tool that adds depth to a game, yeah, taking it out is definitely, definitely bad. If it only adds stupidity, then getting rid of it is probably good. If it doesn't really add much, then its removal may not be particularly detrimental. I personally don't think a game like SF4 would be a worse game if they got rid of the "can't special cancel gatlings" mechanic. And, to be honest, I think vanilla AC probably would have been a better game without force breaks. Most of them didn't add much to the game, and the ones that did were frequently stupid (i.e. Eddie's FB drill). I'm personally excited about them in +R, though -- because they seem to be adding depth to the game. It all depends on implementation -- putting force breaks into the new game system might add depth, but it might add stupidity as well. It might also just not add much, who knows. I'm not saying it's good that they took them out, just that, coming from vanilla AC, it doesn't seem like a particularly huge loss to me. And Slash is considered by most to be a good game, and that was based off of #R. It was also well-balanced on the whole (I don't think Ky was any worse than AC Eddie or Testament; the main unfortunate thing imho was Robo-Ky). +R is also adding in a bunch of stuff back in from #R, like dustloop, Millia's j.H, Ky's 6H, etc. And I think +R looks better for it. My point isn't that #R is necessarily a good base, just that it's not necessarily a bad one, either. It had a lot of good things and a few problems. So long as they don't repeat the problems, I can see it working well. I can see it having problems too, though. We'll have to wait and see. -

I may stop by; I haven't decided yet. I am in the mood to play some GG because of all the recent announcements, if anyone else is down for that. Although I'm also down for MB or P4A as well. -
GGs! Your Labrys was giving me plenty of trouble. I felt like a punching bag for you and Ronald-Kun, haha. And, speaking of which, ggs to Ronald-Kun and everyone else in the room as well.

Interestingly, I didn't notice instant blocking mentioned in that. Maybe that's a good sign for it being in Xrd? Also just realized that I didn't notice stagger mentioned in the Xrd system. -

I personally love #R, so I don't mind Xrd being similar. I also don't get the notion that the balance in that game is "terrible" -- it's not great compared to AC and Slash, but it's pretty passable compared to a lot of other games (even recent games). Most of the cast is still viable, and while there is some stupid shit in the game, I don't think it's game breaking. I'm really hoping there will be limits on when you can and cannot YRC, though, for the afore-mentioned reasons. -

I'd rather them not get rid of FRCs, but I'm not going to be that upset if they did -- the "yellow" RC mechanic seems similar, but more flexible, with the extra meter cost there to balance out the flexibility. Depending on how it's implemented, I could see it possibly being a suitable replacement. I was honestly more afraid that they'd introduce wide throw-break windows and ground teching, and I am very glad to see that neither of those are mentioned in the system mechanics. I'm currently more worried about being able to YRC anything. Like doing Riot Stomp full screen and waiting until the last moment to YRC, using the "slow down" effect (which I'm still not sure I understand) to see if they twitched, and then Volcanic Vipering them. I'm assuming there's something to account for such stupidity -- like limits on when you can YRC and not (some people have suggested that it only works with projectiles, but the way the translation is worded makes me think it's an example of the mechanic and not the only instance of the mechanic) -- but I guess we'll find out for sure in the loketest. And, as Erik said, it's still being developed, so who knows what might change after the first loketest. -

I hope you're right. I think someone said that near the beginning, but I don't know for sure how accurate it is. I double-checked the translations and it looked like projectiles were an example and not necessarily exclusive to the mechanic. -

I'm actually curious to see where this "yellow RC" goes. If you can RC any more before during startup, before it even lands, couldn't you RC dusts? So, something like "5D -> YRC before the dust goes active -> low" sounds like it would be a very strong (albeit expensive) mixup. But people should still be able to react to it with DP/jump/backdash. Scratch that, slow-down would mess it up. However, it does sound like unsafe moves could be made difficult to punish when someone has meter. I.E. Riot Stomp full screen -> YRC just before it lands -> 2D if you saw someone doing 6P during the slow down, or whatever. Not really sure how I feel about this. EDIT: And if the other player has meter, I guess they could YRC in response? Hmm, really not sure how I feel about this. -

My personal guess is that it's the animation, and that's the "slowdown for everyone except you" effect -- that is, your opponent basically freezes while it does an RC animation, which should make RCs easy to hitconfirm. -

Yeah, "finally" is right. And all the Xrd stuff as well -- looks like this should be a good month for Guilty Gear. -
GGs to all and to all a good night. I played against a bunch of good players and my win ratio took a hit as a result. Good thing my ratio was already garbage to begin with.

While I think that reply was kind of meaningless, I still had a similar reaction. Maybe just because "soon" sounds better than "indefinite future," even though both can refer to the same thing. -
I haven't played against any of those characters in a while, so take what I say with a grain of salt, but from what I remember: I believe (2H, nj.CLSW)x3, 2H xx BR works on all of them and is one of the most damaging combos, but getting the last 2H nj.CLSW to connected along with the follow up 2H xx BR can be pretty tight, so I don't often go for it. Recognizing when it's not going to work and cutting it short (such as with only 2 SWs into BR or BR loop or whatever) is important, but then you lose the whole point of the damage advantage. On the other hand, 2H nj.CLSW x2 into BR loop is still decent damage and usually ends in the corner, but I can't remember if the tk BR tends to knock any of those 4 backwards. Another one I use, particularly if I've got a lot of space to work with and want to end in the corner: WT ad j.S xx CLSW, j.CLSW x2, dashing j.D xx VV kick. That one's a bit easier, imho, but Baiken can still be tough because she falls weird. And it's not much of a damage increase -- iirc, it needs to be j.D and both hits of VV need to connect for a damage increase. The nice thing about it, though, is that you can always add in more empty jump CLSWs for additional damage if you're going for the kill. The one I use on Baiken is different from all the others, and I only keep going back to it because it's the one I usually never drop on her: dash 2H (or dash j.D if deep in corner) nj.CLSW, 2H nj.H xx CLSW, nj.S xx CLSW, BR. So, basically like the one ssj2jeff posted (but I didn't notice the nj on the nj.H in his).
