Arizona "Arcsys Release Dates Give Us Erectile Dysfunction", Thread
Orrax replied to Chumaralupa's topic in West Coast
Oh damn. I can try and bring my laptop, but it had problems with Melty the last time I tried it (random slowdowns, but it might have been stage specific). And I don't have the most recent version of the game, so that doesn't help. =/ EDIT: Looks like I only have the trial version on my laptop. I'm pretty sure I had the full version at one point and it had slowdown problems (which would explain why I got rid of it), but the trial version seems to run fine. If anyone wants me to, I can bring it and they can try to get Melty set up on it, but it sounds like it's probably not worth the trouble to me. -

Yesterday Jima qualified with Testament (and Karun with Jam), so only Order Sol is unaccounted for in GG. A Yukiko and a Kanji qualified for P4A as well, iirc. Not sure about BB. Don't you usually bring your laptop? Just play Melty on that. -

I was thinking of dropping by tonight. I'm not too keen on going to Spinatos because I want to watch the start of Arc Revo (streaming starts around 8, I think), so I might not show up until 10 or 10:30. By the way, any plans to watch Arc Revo? According to the schedule, it looks like the quarter finals to finals for P4A start around 11. -

I may be interested in dropping by to play Marvin in P4A (and hopefully GG) as well. I'm sorry to hear that P4A is being dropped, but I'm not surprised either. -
Technically, shouldn't that be "Dust Loop," not "D-Loop," since there isn't any "D?" /nitpick Millia for top tier... assuming it works on more than Faust.

I don't think Sol is bad air-to-air by any means, but Kaizen's right that FB SW isn't actually that great as an air-to-air tool or as an air-to-ground tool. What it does do is let him confirm almost any random AA into big damage, which sounds pretty scary. But it can be somewhat situational because he can already turn a lot of his AA into big damage anyway for free. So, yeah, it's good, but probably not the best. As for what is the best, I've got to say Dizzy FB spikes look the most annoying to deal with.

Pretty sure it's just a pre-Arc Revo tournament. Besides, that's a 2 on 2 and Arc Revo is a singles tourney. And... I'm pretty sure 62 players have qualified (with 2 more for last chance qualifiers) for each of the three games. EDIT: Yeah, can't be, last chance qualifiers haven't happened yet. Also, brackets. And here's easier to see ones for Guilty Gear and BlazBlue. EDIT EDIT: Arc Revo schedule. -
Operational Definitions for Gameplay Terms: The Project
Orrax replied to Digital Watches's topic in Guilty Gear General
I really dislike this definition for pressure. If I tap someone with one move that grants frame advantage, I'm, according to this definition, applying "pressure." But I don't think pressure refers to just one move. That's more... I don't know, a frame trap, or enforcing a mixup. I think a useful way to begin defining words is to look first at how a term is used colloquially. All of these terms came from somewhere, and they derive from terms that had some common meaning that the specific fighting lingo evolved from. So, I first want to look at how Merriam-Webster defines "pressure": According to the first three definitions in particular, "pressure" is a psychological or physical burden, a constraint of circumstance, and the application of force. In terms of fighting game terminology, there definitely does seem to be a "constraint of circumstance," where one player is trapped by another's pressure and has to find a way out, which can create a "psychological burden," where the trapped player must figure out how to escape, and the player applying pressure is constantly applying some sort of tangible threat ("force") to keep the other player trapped -- here, I think it's probably safe to say that maintained blockstun is the "force." Also, this sort of situation in a fighting game doesn't arise in an instant; my example above of trapping an opponent with one normal that grants frame advantage does involve a constraint of circumstance, but it doesn't really create a "psychological burden" (psychological conundrum, perhaps, but I think of burden as something someone carries with difficulty over time), and only a small amount of force (blockstun) is used. So, I think we need a definition of pressure that emphasizes that one player is trapped and constrained over time through the use of some sort of force (blockstun). Maybe we could say something like: Pressure: The continual enforcement of situational advantage through the use of blockstun. I think the term "blockstun" already carries with it a sense of being constrained so I didn't mention constraint in the definition. I also want to add that I like the idea of defining "rushdown" as something involving movement. I'm not going to quote Merriam-Webster again, but I tend to think of "rush" as hurrying and "down" in this circumstance as the closing of distance -- like moving "down" a gradient, or movement toward a physical location. Putting those two together, I get something along the lines of "hurrying to close the distance." Most rushdown characters that I am aware of are often close range fighters, where they need to get in close to be effective, so I think this (admittedly rough) definition is on the right track. I'm also not quite sure how to parse the term "rushdown move." It seems to me that "rushdown" applies more to character types or a general sort of game plan. While many moves are useful in helping a character "rushdown," the moves themselves aren't the "rushdown"; they're tools used in a "rushdown," but I think they can also often serve other purposes. Like I'd say Rock It or Hammerfall would also be useful moves in pressure, which I think is a different thing than "rushdown" (namely that "rushdown" can frequently have the player rushing down at some sort of situational disadvantage, while the player applying pressure is pretty specifically in situational advantage). Hence, I wouldn't want to call the moves themselves "rushdown moves" when they have more applications and purpose than just rushing down. -

Only 3 days? I don't mind about the $10 entry fee at all (not really a price increase with only 3 days), but I still don't like Sundays. I will try to support the event. -
From this section in the wiki: Stun formula: "((Move Damage x Combo Hit Modifier x Character State Modifier) - 5) x (random value between 1.0~1.3) x 0.15" So, yeah, there's randomness in the formula itself.

Thanks for the info! Sounds like j.D-D xx j.BR opens up some new combo possibilities.

Dustloop was a pain on Sol. I'd recommend testing on Axl or Slayer (especially Axl) for someone easier. And I haven't seen anyone get more than two reps, so that really might be the max. Still sounds like it does pretty good damage anyway, though. Some #R relics I've been wondering about: Is it possible to do triple dust reps (j.D jc j.D-D) on Pot? I'm pretty sure one is possible, but I'm not sure two are, or how hard it is to follow up. How hard is it to follow up on something like dash 2K 5S 6P 5H iad j.PKD? Does air hit j.D air dash j.K connect? I don't think this one will work, honestly, but I'm curious. Does H VV kick work after a 2 rep dust loop? Does the old "ghetto" loop work (j.D jc j.SD land, dash, j.K follow up)? For someone trying to super jump air dash out of the corner, how hard is sj.D-D to follow up after? How hard it is to follow up after air hit j.PS jc j.D-D?

I honestly don't think N-O has entered GG qualifiers. Same with Shonen or Inoue, who I'd normally expect to be repping Testament and Order Sol. I just haven't seen them entering any. As for Dizzy, she's good, but I don't think she's broken by any means. I certainly don't think Slayer is better. And May doesn't seem that good, yet 4 Mays got in. -

Looks like this is the list of people qualified for GG for Arc Revo. I'm really just posting it because SLAYER. And no Testament or Order Sol makes me sad. -
Maybe this list is more complete for Guilty Gear? Still, that's a shame about Order Sol and Testament. I thought both those characters looked pretty solid. I thought they were at least on par with Slayer (wtf 6 Slayers). And I thought they both looked better than May (4 Mays).

Carlos at Ruben's? I don't think that's happened since... since before Ruben moved to the apartment. Unless he was there one of the many times I wasn't. And, oh man, Big Bang Beat. I never actually got to play Revolve. Was it any good? I will probably be able to make it this weekend. Either Friday or Saturday works for me. -

GGs to all. Congrats to Erik for 2nd and I think Lorenzo for 3rd, and to Ryan for getting 1st for the season. Also, thanks to Jimmy for bringing that set up and making casuals possible. EDIT: Yeah, the turnout was a bit disappointing, particularly since it was the last ranbat. Lorenzo seemed confident that Persona would be back next season, but I don't really know how the decision making process works (does a place at Evo matter?), so I can't really comment. Sunday tournaments don't help, but it seems like Persona is mostly dying out in AZ. -

GGs! Chie can have that affect on people. And, oddly enough, I don't think I was doing any better with Chie than I was with Liz. Isn't today the last ranbat? I feel more obligated to show up because of that, for some reason. Anyway, I should be able to make it. -
