[Xrd] News & (Theoretical) Gameplay Discussion
Chrome Homura replied to Shinjin's topic in Guilty Gear General
This situation is impossible, since you can't input a SB until about 10 frames or so (I'm not certain that's the exact number) after wakeup. If people could stop meaty oki setups this easily GGXXAC would have been a completely different game, and SB would not be so easily written off as it is now. Would you consider Faust/Axl's 6H slashback bait? Because I'm pretty sure I rarely see a match video containing either of these characters where the FA/AX player in question doesn't use 6H at least once, and it tends to be either blocked normally or not blocked. I'm pretty sure there not being much SB usage in tournament play isn't due to a lack of legit opportunities for a punish if done successfully, it's more that FAB is pretty much the only player with the balls to go for SBs on a consistent basis. -

Why should a player's remaining lifebar determine whether or not they can break a throw? To me, that logic equates to the concept that one shouldn't be able to negate what would be lethal chip damage via FD. Defensive options are there for players to keep from losing, why should the amount of damage they've already taken restrict those options in any way? -

What was the result of a simultaneous throw input pre-AC? Was it determined randomly, as it was in the ancient times? -

Why are there people making this assumption so readily? (I mean, Blade was the other member, but still) As previously mentioned, while it's possible they might actually change the system, it's just as likely that the so-called "Last Blade clashes" are merely special intro scenery, as has been the case since GGX if I'm not mistaken. I wouldn't mind if they actually do change the clash system, but I think it's kind of ridiculous to just believe without a doubt that that's how it's going to work based on the information we have so far. -

Hope you don't mind if I quote this :p Now that I think of it though, voice-activated moves seem like they'd actually be hella hype if done right. I think it'd be fun to input one's IK/Astral by delivering a one-liner from your character's dialogue. Strictly an option, probably one that wouldn't be suitable for a large tournament (nevermind cheesy as hell) but entertaining for those casual sets where nothing really exciting is going on (or online play, for that matter) -
I counterpick Eddie with Faust. It requires a bit of patience and strong spacing, but there's nothing quite like ignoring/hopping over drills in pogo stance :p I'd recommend Testament if you really want the cheesier char though. Forward EXE beast all day long, it just bea(s)ts everything. Of course, the char I actually main probably still has a better matchup against "The ED" than Dizzy

^Yeah, that. I can think of plenty of games with varying cancel systems, but unless I'm mistaken, GG is literally the only FG ever made where the _amount_ of meter you get from doing things varies. The designers of KOFXIII had the foresight to prevent drive meter gain in combos after you use a DC as well as no super meter gain during HD mode... but that's literally the closest thing I can think of, and it's still quite a stretch to compare that to GG's system. -
Okay, I guess Google is somewhat helpful. It's called "Sol Survivor", and while the content is kinda mediocre (2008 era go!) I still want to be able to watch it again. Unfortunately, the only place it seems to exist currently is on some Chinese site in ass quality. Does anyone have a download link, by any chance?

Idk about everyone else, but I'm for sure that the cel-shading looks FUCKING BEAUTIFUL. I'm going to die before the game comes out though. Seeing this trailer was like seeing the damn Shichosei. I swear I heard Toki's voice and knew he was posed with his finger pointing straight up at my doom. -

The... I just... :O -
I remember it was on one of the youtube accounts that got shafted, but don't know if it exists anymore... It was like 10 minutes long, Sol/Order Sol combos set to various Devil May Cry OST tracks (and had neat little transitions between the songs using special intros and whatnot, it was well put together) so... I think that's enough info. Anyone remember what it was called, and/or where I could find it? ...And while I'm on the subject, would anyone know where I can find "AA", an AC Sol vid that was set to Sonata Arctica's "Picturing the Past"?
-
True, but I have to give him props for finding the most intense execution requirement possible and making it happen. He confirmed that his opponent was in crouching hitstun, and used KJ transport FRC. Not FRC, j.S/HS/D, just FRC straight into the super. That's some premium combo movie footage there.

I never considered the single elim format to be controversial, I merely dislike it personally. Seeing so many big names and knowing half of them are going to be ousted in such a short time period (this is highlighted even more so by the fact that it's a 1on1, not a 3v3 team event) just makes it hard to be a fan of the game in general. If I were shortsighted enough to only care about the results of those who play the character I main, that'd be significantly easier to deal with... but I don't have that narrow perspective. As a direct result, the simple desire of wanting to see all the high-level competitors I enjoy watching play more than once is setting me up for a lot of disappointment. For example, wanting Hase to advance will mean hoping for Kisshi to lose first round. I have to choose between rooting for Haaken or Ruu, and between those two players, the format demands that I only get to see one of them perform in this event after the result of what is likely going to be a single 3 round match. It just seems like it's going to be over so fast that while there are certainly going to be some hype matches, there will be an equal amount of wasted potential just because none of these players are going to get a second chance.
-
Single elim? For reals!? Man, there's gonna be so much sad after the first round. It better be best of 3 games at least, too many players are gonna be heartbroken right off the bat Also, why the hell is Dogura on the Slayer train? Clearly he isn't interested in the runback vs BLEED or DC. I can only think of one guy I want to see win the LCQ to fight FAB, and that's Inoue. Being a JO myself, I hope the other one is a random so I don't have to feel bad about DC advancing >_>

I'm not most people, but I'd say the best FB is a toss-up between SL's Dandy and Sol's new Sidewinder (which I feel is vastly underrated, as not enough Sol players use it the way I feel it should be used...) The former beats all kinds of oki setups, and the latter can start big combos off random air-to-airs, which as of yet appears to be a nigh-untapped goldmine of potential.

I don't need no pocket Kliff. I already have a pocket Faust, I.E I'm already prepared. :p

I'll let the real smart people answer the rest of your questions, but I at least felt like nabbing this one: The additional coins used by pros in the combos you refer to aren't really for damage in this case. The reason you see him do it at least twice is in order to set up proper positioning for the IAD chain into enkasu, which is crucial because it's the only way to get the knockdown for the unblockable setup. It's possible to confirm a knockdown into mist without using the extra coins, or otherwise in a way that nets more damage, but I assume Satou does it the way he does because it's the most reliable confirm.

8:12 This is quite possibly the sexiest Johnny combo I've ever seen. Edit: Also 14:49 is incredible-daze.
-
No really, this should be on the content page in some form. In fact, I think any FG player can benefit from reading this, even non-airdasher mains.

(I don't even so much as sub Chipp, why am I here?) According to the 1.10 change list, j.hs's proration isn't forced. Not that it would change much if it was, seeing as how last I checked it's properties are such that the only practical uses for it are either as a starter or the second to last hit of any given combo (or just the last, if you want the extra frame advantage over the beta blade finish) Also, much as I hate to disagree with Samitto-sama, I think it's worth arguing that j.hs is likely still better than j.s as oki/pressure in situations where you don't have meter, as the proration probably won't affect your damage that much if all you're confirming into is (land) k,s, 2d. If you have the meter (or if you think you'll have it in time) for alpha blade FRC (or forcebreak alpha) to extend the combo should you connect, j.s will be the better move for sure. If not, then j.s all the way. Thus, j.hs will still be useful IMO, if only marginally so.

I'm considering it on the basis that I already miss being able to practice my combos on the toilet wherever I go... I also need something to music with, and if I'm correct the Vita's browser is powerful enough to handle youtube videos, which would basically enable me the only mobile function I'd ever want a smartphone for, but without actually having to buy one of the cursed things. all this in mind, it's actually something I'm giving serious consideration to. I have a PS3 already, why not go the extra mile for 'dat +R?
-
Hmm... my PSP just broke. Is this a sign I should upgrade to Vita?

Sidewinder timing is balls, indeed. Also idk if this is just me, or a pad thing, but in my attempts to run Sol online I have yet to hit a full 8 hit (clean) Grand Viper ever... It seems the lag eats so many of my inputs that just getting 6-7 hits is difficult. (This is assuming mashing 4/6 and S/HS all at the same time is the most consistent way to get it, is that the optimal fashion?)
