  1. This is just my POV, but from my personal experience with trying to get people into GG, the biggest reason most people won't play it is it's high learning curve. When starting out at the game, you'd pretty much have to be playing a gold character to have any chance of winning against someone who has but the slightest amount of experience over you. This problem is compounded practically 100 times over for me, having been playing XX for like 2 years now (I'm too lazy to order AC online despite my intense desire to play competitively, we were damn lucky to find XX and/or even Isuka used as it was) Granted my ability with most of the cast compared to my mains is exponentially less, but I still know all of the characters' basic tactics, and understand the physics and game mechanics so well that it is damn near impossible for me to not just utterly destroy anyone who wants to try to play it with but the slightest effort. It just takes far more practice to get even somewhat good at GG than the average person cares to invest time in. Also, there's no fighter like GG (well, now there's Blazblue, but nobody in my area has played it yet) it just doesn't function anything like mainstream games that most are familiar with. Hell, gameplay wise I'd almost go so far as to say the only similarity GG has to other fighters is it's 2d status. Toss the "Anime factor" in on this, and it's not hard to see why the game that has a loyal, but admittedly quite small following. (when compared to other fighters, anyway)
  2. Whoever he is, that guy is my new hero. +Infinite for using respect as a round opener. Twice in a row, no less.
  3. Real funny. I'll admit I got pretty close to writing a rant defending my playskill, but that would be splitting hairs. I actually did play some SF4 with this group last week. Aside from discovering that Rose is actually pretty cool unlike the rest of the non-Ken Masters cast, it was pretty miserable losing to "just above scrub level but still pretty bad" Sagat every time, until I finally started reading him enough to win a match and then he quit, claiming he was too drunk to play well anymore. That about sums up the experience for me. @Digital Watches: Unfortunately no, I do not own a car. In theory Parental Taxi Service could get me up there, but it's an expensive drive (what with gas prices and all) which in all honesty I can't afford to do more than once a month...
  4. You and everyone else, dude. *stares at sig, sighs* Yeah. I've tried to get people at my shop to play it, but the MTG scene where I live (the only real social contact I get with anyone outside my home) pretty much has no interest in fighters... well, save for a small group of ignorant bastards who play SF4 and refuse to play non Sagat/shoto characters save for the occasional "Gief" lol session. I pretty much have no idea how to get anyone to want to play it. It seems like every time someone has tried it, they look at the char select screen and decide chars like Pot or Baiken look cool so they pick them first despite my advice... how the hell am I supposed to teach somebody like that!? And then of course there's the faith-shattering moments when they make fun of me for playing it too.
  5. Hmm, where to start, where to start... My (Holy?) orderless top 10: Feel a Fear (GGXX) Kage Matsuri Bloodstained Lineage (GGX HR) Liquor Bar and Drunkard (Sound Alive Version*) Holy Orders Arranged (GGXX Sound Alive) Keep the Flag Flying Get Down to Business Keep Yourself Alive (GG Original version is teh best) A Solitude That Asks Nothing in Return (GGX HR) Still in the Dark Honorable Mentions include Irony of Chaste, Fatal Duel, Meet Again, Writhe in Pain (I'm actually quite self-conscious about liking this song... PM me for the full story if you're curious >_>) aaand I can't think of any others right now. (*Sound Alive being the A.S.H Concert recording, not that vocal garbage that I hate with a passion)
  6. Thank you. Although I'm of the opinion that it isn't arguable at all. Johnny just IS the manliest character in Guilty Gear. By the way... I don't intend to brag, but I'll have you know... I'm not new to Johnny, he was the first character I started with so long ago. I already am pretty freaking good at Mist canceling at least... I have a decent pressure game, but I haven't delved very far into setting up throws. I find that I'm pretty good at getting in there unexpectedly though... I'm going to talk to my brother about recording some matches through MUGEN so I can show off my skills That, and I knew about the rapid dash thing already, I added it to my post as a joke. I checked out a video on it a while ago (I forget who uploaded it) and discovered that pretty fast. Unfortunately, last I checked rapid dashing was a pretty much essential element to his "tick throw" setups... but I could be wrong. Am I? >_> <_< @4r5: thanks for the link, I'll have to check that out... Upon a few minutes of practice, I've discovered TK Ensenga to be relatively simple. I can't mash rush the motion like I can with certain other moves... For example, I can usually get "What's my name" to come out by mashing 63214 (or 41236) in anticipation (an easy thing to do if you're about to wake up) then pressing 6/4 +HS at the proper moment to complete it. but like most longer motions must be done smoothly. About the transport. I tried doing it manually, but moving one's thumb from S to a position where it can hit P K and HS all at once so fast is nigh impossible on a pad. So I cheated... sorta. it seems XX for PS2 has a macro option that solves my problem pretty well... I set L1 to P+K, Thus hitting L1 + HS simultaneously is actually possible, and really not very hard at all. Once I figured that out, I managed to get the timing pretty much down pat. Soon enough I'll be comfortable enough with it to work it into combos. I can't wait to spring it on my brother as a surprise the next time we play... :bad: thanks for your help guys, I appreciate it immensely.
  7. Of all the things I'd like to do in life, a great challenge I've placed upon myself is to master our lord and savior Johnny. Unfortunately, despite my Solid Year (or two, I've forgotten how long it's been) of practice since my brother first brought home our copy of XX (PS2 version) I'm still running into some difficulties. These difficulties, are simple but still quite daunting... I play on pad because I'm too poor to afford a stick btw First, the Divine Blade Transport FRC. The timing on this thing seems downright impossible, I've never once gotten it without accidentally triggering the DB itself. One of the problems with this FRC I notice is that Slash is one of the buttons required to use it. No really what the hell is the timing on this thing? Secondly, and this is the part where I could probably get some help, is One hit Ensenga (enkasu) The only reason I haven't been able to practice these yet is because I don't know how the setups work between characters. I think in all my playing I've never actually been able to do it on purpose, but occasionally I randomly get one and lol. If I could get the XX data on these from someone, that'd be real awesome. I guess thirdly I could also mention I can't TK Ensenga or rapid dash, but that's more a problem with my not having a stick. Pads are a bitch sometimes T_T (given my budget, unfortunately I don't see that changing any time soon though) Sooo... anyone else still play XX? If I could get some pointers or a shoutout or... I dunno, something to aid my experience, that'd be real awesome... Mist Finer for life!
  8. Pretty nifty. Added, I guess. Don't know what good it'll do, but here's to hoping... Still need to find and play against someone who can beat my XX Johnny. COME ON I CAN'T BE THAT GOOD
