GGs xsol. nice to know I still suck at map control, and in general. Edit: new Video. Kimera Cryin(So) Vs Guilty blood(Dr) http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/1277268493 triora I'm tired of seeing this match-up, Guilty blood can't compete with Kimera, and/or Sol vs Dr. Paradigm is in Sol's favor. this vid itself is fun to watch regardless though. good old fashion battle for territory.

I've known he had start up on his counter forever (its been on my guide since version 1.00 to prove it!) but its nice to confirm every once in a while, because its kinda hard to believe. besides, its hard to even know that it has start-up unless you play sin yourself (otherwise, it could be any other move that you interupted for all you know) did you understand what I was getting at with Sin's (L) x, 4x attack? I feel I didn't elaborate on it well enough here (I did in gamefaqs though, which is why it might sound random and porly explained here) When you block Sin's 5x, and side step to your right, his counter is uasually 4x, the big slow sweep with his staff. someitme, when you do sidestep to the right and he perfomrs the 4x, you might actually be able to block it. most of the time this does not happen, but there's like a....20% chance you will (pulling the percentage out of my ass, but you get the idea; the chances are not in your favor). this why canceling the recovery of your sidestep with an attack will allow you to at least trade with him, and he can't combo you. better yet, if you got lucky and get that 20% chance of sidestepping early, you will out right hit him, no trade, so free combo. if you Volcanic Viper (of vapor thrust) him after sidesteping, and its almost (ALMOST) a garunteed hit, no trade. these were tested offline, 2 player splitscreen so lag was not an issue. I was playing with my friend boundary, and like I've said a million times, he used to play the game when I first got it. testing these things out was surprisingly fun for both of us. we should hit up some matches the next time were both on live. though the communty may be dead, I still love this game, and actually care to play it with someone (even with lag, ugh...) I'll shoot you a message if I see you on and I'm on boundary's account. Honnou, do you still play this game? maybe we can do some 1 on 1 sometime with the mic, I'll add you if your interested in a few rounds.

this thread is just about dead, but that isn't all bad, seeing as its getting progresivly harder to get matches on without friends and what not. anyway, I did some tests on master fights with Sol and Sin that I uasually don't try thanks to utlizing my friend as a second player. I found some interesting stuff. I originally posted this stuff at the Gamefaqs boards, and decided to post here for old times' sake. when Sol side steps, he side steps towards his opponent until he reaches their insignia thing on th ground. when he reaches that, he stops advancing with each sidestep, but is in range for all his moves. when Sin sidesteps, his first sidestep will take him out of the opponent's insignia thingy on the ground, and the other sidesteps afterwards will take him EVER SO SLIGHTLY away and then he stops creating distance from side-stepping all-together. the difference between the two character's sidestep is a really cool detail. you CANNOT sidestep out of Sol's (L) x, 2x, x, when the 2x is blocked on a consistant basis. I know that sounds like I'm making this up, but its true, Sin could not sidestep the last x when he blocked the 2x, and he got hit CLEANLY after every attempt. you also cannot jump without getting hit as well. this strikes me as weird that the 2x puts you in this sort of frame trap that's hard as hell to escape when blocked (I should honestly abuse it more). I didn't test how well Sol can combo you if you get punched mid-air while trying to escape. Sin's (L) x, 4x is weird. if you sidestep to the right after the first x, there is a random chance that you can be safe and block the 4x. we could not determine what was the reason why sometimes its safe and others times it isn't. from what I can see, most of the time, you will get hit. however, if your sol and mash x after side-stepping, you will almost ALWAYS trade hits with sin. mash VV, and you will out-right beat him almost all the time (you won't even trade for damage). for maximum return of the above exploit, try mashing a quick attack after sidestepping to your right to trade hits (Sol's 5x for example) if your lucky, you may also out-right beat him. try a reversal if your Sol/Ky to beat him clean 90% of the time. I wish this game had frame data or something. sometimes sidestepping to your left when Sol does his (L) x, x, x, combo string will get you hit if you do it after blocking the second hit. this shouldn't ever hit you, and its fairly easy to dodge, but there's a random chance you'll get hit if you try to sidestep it. these inconsistencies beg questioning the frame data in this game. if Sin's 2y counter doesn't connect right away (like, less than a second when its out) you can punish him even when the staff is still glowing. this personally made me VERY happy. and that's it.

not that it matters in the slightest, but I actually prefer vampire hunter over savior. it feels more intense to me. does anyone else feel that way, or is vampire savior considered best by consensus? I don't know what people think about the series, I just play it sometimes.

oh yeah, you can follow up a 2x into a ground combo if your Sol. Sol can juggle people like Izuna can; only it's performed in a different manner, and without the obscene damage output unless it involves his overdrive. he can pull off a 320 combo, or something around that if he combos off of it. this also applies to 2x performed on opponents who are jumping, because you can't recover off a 2x from any height. really great stuff, it can actually be seen as an appropriate anti air with this combo use.
-
haha, that's an appropriate response I suppose. you really want to know? well too bad, I'll only tell you one, while the other one, learn it by getting it performed on you or something. your not the only one who can keep secrets. for 353 damage and little tension use, watch the newest Sol combo video I posted here a few pages back. its also on the GG2 video thread. You should recognize it instantly. Lxxx>xx(s.s)2x[5x]vv that's Sol's BnB combo, recovers tension like crazy and cost practically nothing. I cannot believe I spent so much time playing this game refusing to learn how to do this combo just because the timing is extremely difficult in comparison to most combos in the game. when you memorize the timing of forward stepping after the initial Lxxx, the thing is pretty easy, though it never hurts to hit training mode to further drill the timing into your skull. the other combo is one i learned from AJ. I never saw the jp do it, probably because it eats your tension away like no other, but its an amazing combo none the less. does 418 damage, 15 hits. Aj gets away with it because he so damn good at baiting bursts. I'm not I've been practicing punishing Izuna on his combo strings. very strict timing is required to punish him consistently. for a guaranteed punished, it requires tension to either be safe, or do big damage. when you want to dodge his strings entirely, dodging to the right is probably the best. the ass hole can break your guard very easily, but cannot follow up as easily as sol can. and I found out that raven can cancel the recovery of his 2x by back dashing. this means the best way to counter it besides trading is to simply not get by hit and punish.
-
you sure about that? the game is pretty much at the end of its life cycle. and once you taste the beauty of no-lag matches, its never the same when you go back to laggy ones, and almost everybody who plays lags, unless they are somewhat close to you. also, don't you hate 1 vs 1? I don't think it would be smart to get a 360 just to play this again. just saying. in other news, I can now do more than 300 damage off a volcanic viper, and one of my Bnb's does 418 damage, only downside is that I'm left with almost no tension, but if the guy doesn't bounce off a wall, and I time it right, I can follow up with ANOTHER combo for free if they recover from the knock-back in the air. great for opponents who have no tension to burst. Edit: oh, and this means Sol has a higher overall damage output than Sin. good for him, he needs it. doing over 300 damage without tension puts Ky to shame too.
-
no, I can't pull the AJ thing, I mean the combo I do for Sol off a VV does 300 damage. and as for the rusty thing, whatever, I still don't know how to handle armors with Sol anyway.
-
I found the quote above to be funny Been dying to get some re-matches with you Sol.badguy. my combo game with Sol has improved exponentially since I've learned how to do (L) xxx>xx on a consistent basis (even on line with the lag). also, doing 300 damage off a VV is where its at (though I could do a little more if I mastered the combo, which I haven't ). I wish there wasn't lag when we fight though, that's a real downer. lag-less games rock.

I have a friend who owns this game, lives in the same town. NO LAG. it felt AMAZING. too bad his disk is falling apart because the disk holder in the case is too big for the disk, thus it cracked it and its all fucked up now. that's what happened to my old copy, and I averted this fate with my current copy by switching to a smaller, more appropriate case. now the disk comes out nice and easy.

wow neo vid, really good job here. I might pitch in a blog entry or two, since discussion here has grinded into a halt, haha (If only I knew how to make one). online matches really started slowing down last weekend, so all I'm recently looking forward to is matches against FlameMasteraj, antikirby, and maybe some random 3rd player. Sol.Badguy too busy playing other games to comeback and join the ( highly unlikely to occur) matches with FlameMasterAJ. shame, because Fighting AJ's Sol is like....crazy with the rushdown game, even when he's so rusty. its fucking impossible to escape his oki game (I didn't even know you could peice together an oki game here), and I never knew Sol could actually completely Pin you down from a knock down, wild and crazy shit. I never had so much fun with mirror matches before. VV is the craziest shit when there's no lag to fuck it up, beats everything in range to it except blocking.
-
Edit: bah, the second session never happend. not too surprised about that, but it was a let down. anyway, I noticed that this game is VERY inactive this week. maybe the game has lived out its life cycle. hmm.
-
we're going to try to do another set of matches on Saturday. I'll keep this board posted at what time.
-
total double post just to get the ball rolling. the reason VV is so good is that the super armor starts up is instantaneous, even if the move is not. VT and VV have the same start-up time, they are just as fast as one another. VV is better though thanks to damage output and combo options. Lag tend to ruin the move's invincibility a lot though ran into some situations where I couldn't burst mid-combo. never happened to me before. baiting bursts are fun. not so fun when you take the bait and burst when they expect it. even less fun when they walk out of range so you can't cancel the burst. still wanna find out about that crazy 8x glitch thingy with Raven. short dash when your close to the opponent, that way it is hard for them to escape/react. know what you are going to do with a rapid fire before you use item. there are a lot of setups with it, I can't tell you how many times I wasted it. use bananas and mines to defend a position that you want to leave alone. people don't use traps enough. Sin's overdrive is lacking. and that's it. play masters only and play it with all the characters. you learn their faults really fast.
-
oh, leave something at your master ghost. 2-3 units. it needs some defense at all times. believe me. Edit: added some new stuff to the GG2 video thread. Edit (2): wow, I ran into tis opponent who stood on or near a mine, so when I used "not there" with raven, I blew up. it was clever. also, the matches with AJ were awesome. learned some things, like how VV is insane when lag doesn't get in the way. or when that stupid 8x glitch thing does not happn for raven, he's actually nothing to be afaid of without units supporting him. and I was reminded that Sin's 2y has start up time. dayum, I thought I was mistaken about that, but its true, doens't stop a rampaging Sol that knocked you down.
-
the stuff you mention regarding raven here is pretty obvious (and I don't run into many who don't abuse his abilities), and super back step isn't that great, also, super back step doesn't make the opponent lock off, so I don't know what that's all about. if it were that good, I would never catch valentines. Raven's not here has start up time (albeit short). you can knock him out of it before he even does it if he's your in his face. when he does it, you can hit him as well with certain attacks (this caught me by surprise) so he isn't 100% safe when performing the move. also, super easy to dodge is you know he's going to do it (and your looking at him). his slow down can be dispelled, and he's vulnerable when he does it. its particularly nasty when he's far away, since his range is whatever he can lock onto. Raven is deadly when your on his turf and he's got support units around (range and magic). if that's the case, your pretty much dead, especially since running away from him is insanely hard in many situations. oh, and super back step against him and eat an 8y. great Idea for trolling. hell, even Sol can catch you from pulling a super back step. Edit: anyway, read the guide, and play a lot. look at replays and all that jazz. also, looking at match videos online helps. GG2 Video thread: http://www.dustloop.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7935 some Sol combo video I just stumbled upon, not on the GG2 video thread as of writing: http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm10554513 its a real good combo video, absolutely excellent really. although it shows many commonly known BnBs with him, there are some more advanced combo here. also, the 456 damage combo is quite nasty, I haven't seen it anywhere before. it also has inputs in the video. the JP write combos slightly differently than I do on the guide. (L) x, x, x is written Lxxx. I was considering changing the way I write combo inputs, but for now I've decided against that. here's a little guide for you Lock on = L air dash = AD modern cancel = MD > = I believe it is similar to the effect of cancel into. VV = volcanic viper I'll warn you that preforming a (L) x, x, x (forward step) x, x, with Sol requires strict timing. its about one of the most demanding inputs in regards to timing for a combo. nico video redirector if you don't have a nico video account: http://mmcafe.com/nico.html just sit and wait until the video loads when you input the URL. the thing goes funny time to time, but its currently working. I tested it before posting the link. practice up.

while that's a good question (yeah, why is he here anyway?), I wish we could discuss match up info like I asked. you know, talk about the game and stuff. sounds like a good Idea. ..... you know? Edit: thanks for that Neo vid. maybe I'll help out if I feel like it. just because. tell me some specific stuff, and I'll consider doing it. the guide is much easier to read since its not in Japanese. however, the text part of the servants...its not exactly a direct translation is it? I noticed some comments missing on the engulfer unit, as the jp wiki makes mention additional notes on the unit that is significant. it is an Ideal unit to protect your master ghost because it can seal Item slots, shutting down rushes. also, you made a mistake about the skill "shut up", saying it's blockable and avoidable. this is not true, you cannot escape the ability once he puts it on you regardless of what you do (similar to professor Blancmange's slow spell), so I fixed that.
-
as far as the up coming match with FlameMasterAj, I am being cautiously optimistic. he's got a gold account now. anyway, I wanna talk match-up data, but I don't have the drive right now, and there's not much to say about the subject strangely enough. but I'll start off anyway. character is usually form Sol's perspective unless stated otherwise. Match up stuff. Raven's 8x, is there a way to block, sidestep, and punish the move without the asshole getting behind you? if it weren't for this, I would have no problems fighting him. Raven's 2x is good, but it has its flaws. there is start up time for the move, so if a Sol is in his face, he can interrupt it. if he misses, he's vulnerable if it doesn't hit anything. the move is designed to hit oncoming opponents, so it has terrible range. if it lands, you can cancel it via jump cancel, but not sidestepping or back stepping. you block this, jump as soon as you can and swat his ass out of the air, because he's gonna jump. 99% of the time, he's gonna try to j.8x as soon as he can when he jumps, where he is vulnerable to get smacked mid air. wanna run at Raven and thing he's gonna 2x, your gonna eat it. if your Sol, you can get a trade with an early gun flame. better than trying to power attack him and getting combo'd for free. other wise, just try to bait the move and punish. any other specific strategies with dealing with this move? Sin....is very safe for many of his moves. you can't punish beak driver with Sol unless you jump over the first hit completely. if you block the first hit, and jump at him, he can defend himself even if he follows up the second strike. I think the only character that can punish him in that situation is valentine, because of her amazing j.8x (very fast and great range). the only way to be completely safe if Sol (or anyone for that matter I think) is to jump backwards by locking off once blocking the first hit of beak driver. Sin can use 2y in the middle of Sol's block strings . if the Sin player keeps doing this, you can predict it and punish, or, just do Lx, 2x, - and the 2x will take long enough to hit him clean after the 2y finishes. Paradigm vs Sin in master fights. words cannot describe how one sided this fight is. paradigm can't do nothing to Sin without risking getting raped. requires gate gunner (as many as you can make) to stand a shadow of a chance. Items are practically a necessity. that's all for now. post similar comments and answer some of these comments above (like raven's 8x bullshit.)
-
yeah, replays off the leader board tend not to be good, but I was lucky enough to find decent matches before...I guess. I don't upload matches because I lose the majority of them. xSol, we should try to set up an team ranked match on Saturday. it will be cool, and we will be able to make Replays for EVERYBODY to see (which no one will watch.) the Idea of doing a team ranked match is cool because I know they never occur. when facing Ky, and your Sol, is it not a good Idea to not rush him down in master fights? when I don't, I always find it hard to get in. also, planning to have some matches with FlameMasterAj this weekend. looking forward to that.
-
I looked up the replay section full of nothing but guilty blood owning idiots who don't know how to play. check out my GG2 video thread, and watch him lose. its hip. http://www.dustloop.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7935

Copied and pasted a response I gave to someone else a while back. strategy for beating mission 8 go spam drills and tell them to go to the center in an attempt to hold back valentine's forces right at the start. charge valentine and beat her up right away. when she dies, use lock off forward x (power attack) on the masterghost and modern cancel each strike to hit with it over and over again until it is destroyed. buy a tension potion if you have to. this is the easiest way to do the mission on hard or on any difficulty for that matter. fire wheel won't help, there are too many enemies for it to handle, so don't bother rushing him out. you can also do it the harder, more fun way, but you need to be good at the game to do it, espeacially at using the organ and knowing all the placements of treasure chests and such. just use the above method and you'll be fine. as for advice on playing the game regularly, try reading the FAQ in gamefaqs, and playing the game enough to get used to the organ. a lot of skill in managing servants and master comes from just playing the game enough to get used to it.
-
Sounds like a gimmick tactic anyway, but it will be good for a nasty surprise and an easy 100-150 damage. oh, and I had a bunch of masters only with some random jp guy, and won all of them with the exception of when he played Sin (dammit). during one of the match-up, it was a Sol vs Sol mirror match. I was surprised to find out that Sol's power attack can knock Sol clean out of volcanic viper. I know it sounds strange that I was surprised by this, seeing as I posted that the move breaks super armor, but I had assumed that VV and VT were for the most part, unbreakable. the surprise aside, it was pretty funny, I never seen Sol sent flying out of a VV, even if I was on the receiving end. I love the screams the characters make when sent flying. both English and jp voices. Edit: Sol Vs Raven masters only. http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm10451862 the Sol player gets spanked, but you may learn a thing or two about raven, and his j. 8x is countered in an interesting way (by jumping at him and smacking him mid air before he dives). I like some of the Combos Raven does. Sol Vs Izuna Masters only http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm10451457 you might pick up a thing or two from this. interesting ways to keep out the Izuna player, and "meh" quality combos. not too bad of a watch. Sin Vs Raven http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm10452098 This one is of better quality then the last two. Sin does insane amounts of damage.

ok, its updated, so I suggest you update the copy you have. also, when you mirror it, try downloading the version without all the crap with gamefaqs stuff on the top. it looks really goofy like that. just click the "download/ view original" and you'll see it without that garbage.
