  1. Tornado warning issued for Philadelphia just a few minutes ago. END OF DAYS
  2. So it's basically the end of days here on the east coast, first earthquakes in weird places followed by a hurricane. It's like somebody in Sim City just started hitting the disaster buttons. With any luck, the monster will accidentally fly over a missile silo and get shot down like in sc2k
  3. So there's this expensive seafood restaurant in Philly who's logo is basically an Ultraman villain: http://fathomphilly.com
  4. http://www.mortonsalt.com/heritage/vintage_ads_files/1952.jpg a picture that was actually used in my intern presentation
  5. http://abclocal.go.com/wpvi/story?section=news%2Flocal&id=8323177 One of the original cheesesteak shop owners in Philly has died of a heart attack. I'll refrain from making a joke, even though this is such a juicy target.
  6. yomi the markets THREE STAKEHOLDERS DEEP all eggs into one basket let's do this
  7. http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/recenteqsus/Maps/US10/32.42.-85.-75.php just had an earthquake, not even kidding. Thankfully it was quite mild.
  8. I have to say that as time has passed, what I like more in my games is a pseudorandom element that you can hedge against, whether or not it's a game of complete information. Games with draft elements like bridge, draft MTG, LOL/DOTA/etc. have a big element of min/maxing combined with bet hedging, and possibly a random setup component (true in bridge/MTG, not true in LOL/DOTA). Might and Magic Clash of Heroes is one of my most favourite DS games, and it's a complete information game, but it has the element of random board configurations which result in a lot of interesting and diverse planning/counter planning. Though maybe Mike isn't so much into the hedging and percentages since that's what he does IRL already.
  9. VF5 Final Showdown getting a console release. One of the significant changes from previous VF5: "- Easy throw escape input option selects have been added. You can now hold the guard button while inputting a throw escape (Punch + direction) and you will be able to block and throw escape at the same time." VF IS FOR CASUAL PLAYERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. The last line: "Realtalk. But, at $99? PRAISE JESUS/ALLAH/MOSES/RAMA!" Makes me think it IS clarence. Seriously, "real talk" + PRAISE ALLAH = clarence
  11. When RF chains into 5K or does 2K, it burst baits automatically. When I do that, I eat the burst like a boss.
  12. 9 hour 3am play session + intern presentation complete MISSION CLEAR
  13. So on Thursday I have to be in the office by 3am, so that the press at Gamescon can play a game populated with players. Looks like he was on.... the graveyard shift. YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
  14. So the DOTA2 tournament live stream is encountering all kinds of problems because they have a viewer count that is nearly 3 million. THREE MILLION. The evo live stream had the record for largest audience for how many days? And it's been trumped by literally an order of magnitude. This is nuts.
  15. This is what I've been working on for the past few months. Was just announced at Gamescom this morning!
  16. In Grief Syndrome, all B button moves are jump cancellable in some way. So moves that have lengthy animation/recovery, like the rocket launcher for Homura, can have it shortened by jumping. Everybody has double jump. It is possible to do B move jc aerial B move jc aerial B move chained B move. At least the melee characters have fast fall by holding down + jump button, so I imagine B move jc B move fast fall is the way to go. Mashing A tends to do actually really good DPS, so the jc B moves are more for enemies that don't lend themselves to sustained attack by A. Homura's mortar can only be done while she's standing on the ground, though, and it seems the fastest way to pound out mortar rounds is to just mash the B button rather than any jc trickery.
  17. Also when you die in Grief Syndrome, you lose that character for the game. "Please select next magical girl."
  18. Grief Syndrome is a 3-player beat-em-up by tasofro. This year and the past year I've actually gotten quite excited about tasofro stuff, what with Dynamarisa 3D (which is actually a game modelled after EDF, so I'm a sucker for it), and Grief Syndrome, which has on one had bg/enemy art that is bizarre and surreal, and on the other hand has the nicely animated and more ort player characters. It also reminds me that tasofro has been around for literally more than 10 years; the first full version of Eternal Fighter Zero was released in 2001, and there were demo versions of it available prior to that. Crazy. I don't know if it's been the same crew all this time, but they're pretty darn awesome. I never got around to watching Madoka, but the ending for it sounded pretty awesome. Unfortunately, it doesn't fit my time budget at the moment. Maybe it will after I stop watching REDLINE for the 1000000000000000x time.
  19. Grief Syndrome!!!!! Didn't know which character to pick at the start. Picked a non-descript dark haired one, discovered she pull mortars/heavy machine guns/pistols/nades out of thin air, and her super is TIME STOP. Decided to try another character with no apparent weapon on the char select screen. This one summons rifles out of the air, and when mashing the basic attack move, gets an array of them stuck in the ground around her which she grabs and fires and throws away. AWESOME. Sadly, none of the other 3 characters are as awesome as those two, and one of them is flat out un fun to use without any co-op teammates.
  20. Surreal fb moment: "People You May Know: John Romero 3 mutual friends" i'm scared that if i friend him he'll make me his bitch
  21. Holy crap, Philadelphia instituting a curfew for all people under the age of 18 in areas including the UPenn zone due to persistent flash mob home invasions. http://www.cnn.com/2011/CRIME/08/12/pennsylvania.curfew/index.html?hpt=hp_t2 We need mayor Haggar

  24. AFAIK the real draw was the AE tournament. He played a top-rated Sagat in vanilla SF4, and he still uses Sagat in AE.
