It seems like Overdrive still exists based on the appearance of the burst icons.  Is it reasonable to assume that BBCF will borrow most of its system from CP the way CS borrowed most (but not all) from CT?

Love how Tager's new throw looks. Plat got something that looks like a low Mami, which sounds crazy. Not sure what Bullet's new grab does, but I just hope she gets a good overhead option.

Hit effects and sound effects are changed.

 

HUD is different.

 

OD has a countdown timer counting how long you have left in [seconds:nanoseconds]

 

When a burst is used there's a number in the center. Does not seem to indicate time before regen, as it ticks up as regen goes on (although it could be counting to 10)

 

Could be my imagination but hitstop seems to be back to pre-CP levels.

 

Several new moves for existing characters. Terumi notably has a overhead. It's a drive move from the looks of it. gets a fair bit of meter and special cancels. It looks like they gave Ignis a freekin' command grab.

 

Nine Naoto and Hibiki confirmed OFC.

Ug, I was weirdly enjoying CPEX too. I know a lot of you think it's somehow petty to not want to learn new combos every year, but it's really not. I liked my old combos. Maybe they'll make Mu fun again though, that would be nice.

 

I never really liked the CS character art, and I definitely don't like ANGRY Tager and Bullet, but oh well. The new stages look decent, and if they're recoloring old stages to give everyone their own stages, I am all for it.

 

Definitely don't want to have to learn more matchups. I still have no idea what Kokonoe even does. Couldn't get a feel for her one bit.

I was expecting Nine to be playable in BB4, but I have to confess that Naoto and Hibiki caught me by surprise. Any ideas who the other playable characters will be? My guess is that they'll also include Izanami, Jubei, Mai and possibly Kajun.

Well you'll have plenty of time to enjoy CPEX.  This game was literally announced a few hours ago.  It doesn't even have an arcade release date let alone one for consoles, let alone one for outside of Japan.

Well, I'm in Japan atm so that last part isn't really relevant. :)

 

just knowing it's coming makes training in this game feel like a waste when I could be playing 3S. Not saying "now BB is bad", but that's just how it is. It happened when I was super in love with BB, it'll happen now. The drastic combo changes really don't need to happen so much. Oh well, back to talking about CPEX.

 

Have I mentioned I hate this game's CPU? Oh, I have. Well...I do. Even on low difficulties where the CPU is brain dead, at low health they're button read out of nowhere. Was doing score attack A, and Tsubaki was running straight into everything as she does. Threw out my astral, and suddenly she decided she wanted to win. Started blocking everything, and when randomly supered me out of the startup frames of some normal. So irritating.

PQube (AKA Zen United) again? I thought they were ditched after CS Extend?

I thought myself they were liquidated, but they came out of nowhere with a physical release of Senran Kagura Burst and recently with the release of Steins;Gate.

Counterpicking is a very important strat, if you can use it to your advantage id say go for it. Just make sure you have enough info on your opponent to make sure it works in your favor

That's easier said than done.  If you're playing half the roster just to the point where you can counterpick most MUs that would otherwise give you trouble, then what's going to happen when you try that on someone who's actually grinded out the MU?

Also SWD I wouldn't say it's so easy to master more than one character. I wouldn't even say I've mastered my own character. All of the time you put into "mastering" the second character could instead be put into getting that much farther with your first character, which could make needing the second one unnecessary.

 

Yes this is another very important point, the time you spend learning the second character could be used to learn more specific things, that can make a HUGE different, about your main character. Think of it like when you level your characters in RPGs (but unlike RPGs we don't know the "hard level cap" for us).

 

Plus, in a competitive setting it's better to have a very solid and strong main character than 2 or more that are possibly lacking, compared to other top players.

You only need 3 to 4 characters to have a counterpick for everyone.

 

Like i have Nu, bang, koko. My only remaining bad matchus would be covered by izayoi or litchi. Theres no need to learn half the cast to counterpick everyone. Just a few characters.

 

Also if you dedicate yourself to counterpicking and an opponent only has one "good" character and one shoddy sub, even if they counterpick you with their sub your character is probably better in that situation.

But you can MASTER multiple characters. I'd like to think my nu, kokonoe, and bang are pretty great (though far from mastered)   :v:

 

I mean theres only so much you can do with just one character, and some characters have unwinnable matchups such as:

Nu vs Bang

Tager vs Mu

 

so its great to have those characters in your pocket for counterpicking specific matchups or other characters to avoid those matchups.

Sure, Valkenhayn might be a lot better than Terumi, but it's still perfectly possible for a Terumi player to beat the shit out of a Valk player.

Valk vs Terumi is fine as a matchup. Its not GOOD for terumi, but its playable.

 

There is nothing Nu can do to Bang since he can react to and punish most things. Other things are no threat to him.  

 

If you think you can beat a good bang player as nu by all means try to. I can just play a matchup that actually resembles a playable game state for me. Theres a few unwinnable matchups in BB.

Counterpicking can backfire especially if it's the character's worst matchup. Some people go out of their way to learn the nuances of their worst matchup, so counterpicking can leave you worse off since they know all the tricks and tactics for that character.

This means nothing if the character can't deal with the opponents tools

You obviously won't counterpick using a character you are unfamiliar with. And just because you play multiple characters doesn't make them any worse than anyone else's single character.

Even if they know a matchup, that doesn't mean you don't. You still have the advantage, it just isn't free in that scenario.
