Kuuhaku Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 Yeah. His air attack usually out ranges 6A if he guesses the timing right. It's easier to just block. Or, you could try using a lobelia for anti air. It works pretty good for random Hell's Fangs too. A Lobelia + 6D catches a lot of Ragnas off guard. It's nice to use at the beginning of the match because a Ragna will either A) rush you down with 5B or Hell's Fang or B) back dash. Uh... if you're worried about getting hells fanged for pumpkin you could either A) try summoning in the air B) summon during knockdown and be careful about keeping it out. Also- if you manage to intimidate Ragna early during the match, he'll be a lot more cautious when approaching you. So that potentially frees up more space. Yeaaah... Ragna corner pressure sucks. Especially if they know how to abuse RC. Feels like you never get out. Wait for them to do something obvious and then punish. His specials are also easy to punish. 6A gauntlet hades for a free air combo. Also- you can bait wake up DP by blocking right before they get up and then 6A or 6B CH during recovery. And yes- keep in mind that Ragna goes down in two good combos. XD;
BadenCalendula Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 COUNTER ASSAULT!!!!!! Worth the 50% heat for this match up. Probably one of the few times I actually use the ability.
Alex073088 Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 i use counter assult definitley in this match-up, espically if he burst me right into the corner. i did notice that ragnas normal pressure stringd extended with his drive attacks takes off a hug chunk of your guard bar, if u barrier block you wont be able to punish in place where u could have if you didnt, and if he rapids off sumthing got damn! i never noticed how much guard bar damage he does until recently.....however...players never take advantage of this by paying the guard bar any attention so once its broken they just finish there string as though they normally, meaning they took no advantage of a free new combo they coulda have started, after a combo reset performed on you by ragna the cat chair, if you know in your mind they will run up and jesus kick(5b) and you have the frames to do(to activate the chair because there is start up u cant do it if you dont have the opening) so helps, but besides that u have to block if he running straight toward you after a knockdown you can not escape!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the almighty jesus kick and attacking will get u hit on counter ^.^ !
TD Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Ugh... the good Ragna's strings are annoying... they use his overhead on my wakeup for 3k... or 3c to confuse me... and it works... Corner = GG... Maybe... maybe Nago should sit this fight out.
Marx-Taich0u Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 Wait, did anyone confirm George being able to tank a Hell's Fang the moment he comes out? That's usually the problem with getting out a frog out of a combo, recovery frames and all. I keep fighting my friend's Ragna (offline) and he keeps smacking me with HF when he see's me summoning George on the ground. Also, can TK George > 2D give enough recovery to block/2c a HF that's halfway across the screen (assuming I'm in a corner)?
Jason D. Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 Try summoning a pumpkin before George. If he tries to Hell's Fang during George (or the pumpkin), just hit D. It'll stop a Carnage Scissors, too.
Blade Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 I'm new to Rachel, since I've been maining Ragna, my main issue is that he'll almost always clash with her 2C and I can't do anything after it, RC isn't safe either. Also what are some good ways to protect George in this fight, Ragna seems to stuff him so easily with ID, HF, 2D, or 5D.
TD Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 Why are you using 2c... Pumpkin stuffs everything Ragna has on neutral. Ragna's neutral game > Rachel's. The faster you can get your tricks out the better. Pumpkin in your main asset. Rushdown with a pumpkin ALWAYS against him. Running low on wind? Hide behind George and punish Ragna for anything he comes at you with. Lobelia's for trap reasons They do come in handy. Just some strats that l use. Oh, don't summon anything midrange or on neutral or you will be eating a combo. Make sure its very safe.
TD Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 l should also mention i'm not that good at explaining things When l say 'safe', l mean after him whiffing, you super jumping, etc...
Jason D. Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 Also what are some good ways to protect George in this fight, Ragna seems to stuff him so easily with ID, HF, 2D, or 5D. I'm not sure what you mean by protecting him. All these things are awful to use on George. An ID won't kill him, and I don't think Hell's Fang will either, and the other two are just really slow and have few if any cancel options. Ragnas should be hitting him with something like 3C. But anyway, the main point in George is actually just to distract your opponent with him. The obvious way is just to put him in front of you, wait for the opponent to kill him, and then hit the opponent during his recovery. For instance, if Ragna hits George with 2D, just run forward and 6B CH Ragna before he's back on his feet. Pumpkins, Lobelias, and forks are all good for punishing George kills. The frog itself is completely expendable and replaceable. In fact, sometimes just for fun I'll summon another George as my opponent swings to kill the first one. Ninja vanish!
Blade Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 Thanks for not answering my questions, guys. No seriously, I get in situations where Ragna will force me to use 2C, and getting pumkin out isn't all that easy with his pressure, or maybe I'm just not used to it. Not even sure the best ways to use Pumpkin on Ragna in particular, since most of the time I'm wasting 3 winds or more to put it to use. As for George, it's not just the frog that gets killed...I get hit along with it. X_x
TD Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 How did we not help... Why are you not looking for holes to punish... lf he used to be your main or w/e, how do you not know how to escape his pressure? 2c is not a good move to be getting super comfy with. IB his 5c's, backdash and get the hell away from him. Use a lobelia's to stop his rushdown. l mean, come on, these are fundamentals here. And one wind pumpkin will suffice. Your aim is to get in with it, not damage anyone with shitty 400 damage.
Jason D. Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 As for George, it's not just the frog that gets killed...I get hit along with it. X_x Press back to block. No, but seriously, you shouldn't be this close to George. Let George go in first and do his thing, and then follow after him when the opponent is immobilized. If you're dropping the frog for oki, just block for the second or two until George activates. That'll teach him not to wake up DP real fast.
Blade Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 Well clearly there is something vastly different that I am not comprehending in this matchup, because tempestdahlia just j2C'ed all over me. How exactly do you get those pumpkins out so fast and when is the best time to do it?
TD Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 You immediately wind it. Pumpkin makes 3 wierd noises before it's fully out. lt takes practice, but after the third sound you wind it. l do it like that at least... And do it when you're safe (After he whiffs a hit and you have enough space to not be punished by his attacks...)
TD Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TMAeQYJbbTo Take a look at the tourney vid vs Ragna yesterday. Look at when l summon, my reactions, punishes, mistakes, etc...
A.X.I.S. Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 that ragna doesn't know the match...outside of that you did pretty well. sadly he didn't adapt to your mix up and he missed some good punish opportunities.
TD Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 He's not bad, he must've been off his game that day or something =/ We fight alot so l can say he's really not bad. Well bad at all.
A.X.I.S. Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 at times he had no reason to backdash...infact in this match I never had a need to backdash. you had a frog coming at him and you summoned a pumpkin...he should have 3C'd and jump canceled it to make it safe, instead he blocked and got mixed up. another moment you summoned a pumpkin but didnt wind it on his wake up. that screamed for ID! I yelled ID that bitch and what he do? block. also frog was next to him...you barrier block the 5A. he should have tick grabbed or 6B, 6B being more risky but you were comitted to barrier blocking so it might have worked and got him a easy 3k. tick grab is safer in this case and comes out with the same damage but at least the frog would have not been on him. not saying he's bad, but he needs a sharper eye out on things. also you did a dangerous summon, you summoned a pumpkin in his face with a move that doesn't have much block stun, I would have 5B'd and it wouldn't even be a need to mash. he also kept doing hells fang combo's mid screen! its fucking important to not do that unless its corner, ladon told me that and I'm saying it here because its true, don't give a zoning character the chance to zone again, once hells fang hits on the first hit mix it up, he's at a dissadvantage. another thing he did was not going for the 22C after a CH hells fang...even if he was going for corner it was a stronger way of doing it, he could have 5C>6C>GH combo if it was a crouch confirm. and he gave you room to breathe...note I'm not saying much about you because your play was solid as far as I'm concerned but based on that vid he's not so sharp. It could have been tourney freakouts or whatever, he didn't do to well in maintaining pressure when he got in, he didn't maximize his damage, and lacking of resets or any conditioning along with silly mistakes(lol I make them too on occasion) like standing there to let the pumpkin hit or not keeping a eye on your wind...basic shit is what cost him that match. but again the video was for another purpose so I said a mouth full for nothing blah! also I'm a bad player don't listen to me.
GenoWhirl Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 Oh look that vid has me QQing, I got to see what they said after
gli Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 Don't worry Axis. He doesn't know the real Rachel match-up because he plays my Rachel a lot
GenoWhirl Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 I knew this would be useful one day http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHGyiiYv3yc&feature=related
TD Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 He plays me alot too... well yeah he's no nineball... and he dosen't win much (against me anyway)... but he is one of the 'better ragna's' on psn. l don't usually compliment people so i'm telling the truth. Plus, l had a chance to warm up before the tourney. @ Geno... QQ??? =o @ SB's wall - Well he dosen't usually play like that. Nerves, maybe?
