GKHiryu Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 I mainly choose depending on the looks, but if character looks good I always check if its fighting style suits me. Since I enjoy being fast, and able to harass the hell out of enemy (GG: Millia in R and Testament in S / AC) I wanted something at least a bit similar. Other thing was, no character in BB looked ok for me. Haku / Nu / Carl and Tao are fairly acceptable, so I first tried Carl, but then decided he's just not for me and went with Tao, my current main. However, changes made to her in CS are generally repulsive to me, so I think in CS I'll go with Hazama as main and Tao as sub.
MIRACLEfool Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 First off I main Tager, I have a habit going to characters that are powerful and/or slow, maybe because I suck with characters that are fast and have the damage potential like paper. Also, he's giant and red, and I got to know him better playing the story love his personality and his relationship with Kokonoe(character I hope comes to be playable one day) to the point of having awkward dreams and inappropriate jokes. I tried other characters too, tried Bang because he's so f*cking awesome, really a manly hero character?! to bad I sucked with him no matter how hard I try. Reason I don't choose other characters, probably because I suck with them or I have an odd seething hate for them like Jin(stems from my hatred of Ky and his ice attacks) and Noel(polar attitude of becoming an insta wimp without her guns. Now that I think about it I suck with Potemkin on GG, but good with ABA and Baiken...

Ky isn't like Jin at all, his personality is difference, his playstyle is different... even their character designs are to the eye of someone who isn't color blind and can't determine shapes. Even then Ky's still badass.
DarkDream Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 Hakumen cuz I realized I can play him fairly well if I play it like I play Makoto in 3rd Strike, and Hazama cuz he has Devil Bringer.
Sponson Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 Rachel because she was adorable. Then realized thats not my playstyle at all and chose Tager because he's huge and awesome and POWER OF SCIENCE.
Melbshaw Posted May 30, 2010 Posted May 30, 2010 Nu, to be honest I picked her because she's cheap to me xD and I like her moe personality towards Ragna. But now it's gone in CS :[ idk no like Lambda I sub low tiers cause I love it when I win with a low tier :P against a top tier so that means Tager for CT then Rachel for CS :D Tager = Hell Boy Rachel = Mina Tepes Nu = Crazy White **** <3
Shaffler Posted May 30, 2010 Posted May 30, 2010 My mains are Noel, Bang, and Tsubaki. And oddly enough, I usually don't care much about the playstyles. Usually, I just main people because I like either their design or character. And in this case, their theme music. Also, almost everyone of my mains are females. Bang is the only male main I have just because he's manly enough to be my only male main.
Jergo Posted May 30, 2010 Posted May 30, 2010 My main in CT is Jin, because I really like his style of play it's more relaxed imo. When you get a D hit, you have the time to think "What combo am I going to do now?" and don't have to immediately follow up.
Major Jin Cloud Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 I looked at the character designs, thought Jin's coat was spiffy along with his weapon. His playing style seem to fit me and I find the character's homicidal, insane personality delectable.
Sponson Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 I looked at the character designs, thought Jin's coat was spiffy along with his weapon. His playing style seem to fit me and I find the character's homicidal, insane personality delectable. Thats funny, because the moment I saw Jin, I thought his coat was generic along with his weapon, his playing style seemed overrated and trite and I find his personality to be cliche and uncreative. Then again my friend overplays every archtype of his character and its gotten stale. What really threw me for a loop though is how intelligent Tager is. In every game the archtype of the "big beefy beater" is that they are gifted with high strength and constitution but low intelligence (ex. Orcs from DnD & Warhammer, Galkan from FF11, giants from the Iliad (Nobody did this to me!)... etc.)
mAc Chaos Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 I love Jin's playing style. Hakumen's better though.
Sponson Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 I love Jin's playing style. Hakumen's better though. Well hakumen is just Jin's future past future self. But that twist is pretty original and underused so I can't really think of any games off the top of my head where that idea is reiterated. I know it appears a lot in movies and shows but still.
mugenblade Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 This one is a mixed bag for me. In GG i Picked up three characters, Chipp for his speed and mix ups, Sol for snazzy burn inducing combos, And Jhonny, because A) NORIO GOD DAMN WAKAMOTO B)Style C) He's fun to play as. When BB was wheting my appetite from over seas, i though i was going to be either a tao main (Cuz of speed and mix up) or a bang main (Because of his snazzy burn inducing combos and over the top style). However, when console rolled around, I found Neither of them to be to my liking, then i played story mode. I grew to love ragna in his bad assery and interesting fighting style. The i discovered my main shortly after, The White Void. His Powerful Kanji creating moves fit me perfectly, and gave me much joy.
Jugiatsu Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 Ever since BB was created and the first arcade version released where Nu wasn't selectable I always wanted to try her because her playstyle and design just screamed awesome to me. However for the longest time I thought she wasn't going to be playable even when the console versions hit so I decided on Noel since she looked interesting and fun. However, once the console version came out and Nu was confirmed I was ecstatic as you might guess. And the rest is history. Naturally now no one will play me on-line because they think I choose the character for an easy win. Le sigh.
BearsAreScary Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 As I mained Ky in GG, I decided to check out Jin to see if he was just as awesome. I searched for a couple vids of Buppa when the game first came out, and to my dismay watched him get obliterated by an Arakune over and over and over. And now I play Arakune.
Pete278 Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 I played Tager in CT, and got utterly destroyed by everyone, felt like blaming the game even though I knew I just sucked and I didn't want to improve, etc., and was about to quit when Hazama first got revealed as playable. My first thoughts were 'damn, that man has style', and so, now, I play the smooth criminal.
Yumi Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 I picked my main in BB the same way I picked my main in GG: use the most attractive male! Anji was always my favorite so I used him and now I'm pretty pro. And in BB, I naturally picked Carl and of course, I'm... still struggling a bit... but I have faith that I'll get his move set down one of these days.
Deadly Base Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 I saw Jin's astral and decided on the spot to main him. Edit: Can't wait to see what his new astral is in the console version.
Dorian Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 Noel fits my personality and is my ideal or "Dream Character". Ragna was easy to pick up and get pretty decent with, so I use him when I want to play a heated match and make as few mistakes as possible (Since Noel is very technical). Truth be told I only picked up Raggy since I wanted to be cheeky and beat my friends with their own mains :D But he proved to be very fun so it stuck..

Dorian Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 How is it crazy? Her inputs are very fast and if you're a good player that uses more advanced methods then there is more room for you to make mistakes; and as a novice I make mistakes. Drive spammers wouldn't care about things like her 6C loop, but for me in a pressure situation like most people I have a harder time making it work (this changes with experience, as again I am a novice). Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying she's hard or the hardest, just requires a lot of finesse. I'd take pulling off a Ragna combo anyday as opposed, especially if there's lag.
Dorian Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 Haha, just as well, I'm new so idk who the trolls/joksters are. (NOTE: Not calling him a troll) >> << ^^
Domethieus Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 Most of the time....First person I play I usually stick with.
