I played this in casuals at a tournament a couple days ago. Forgot how fun this game is. I did a hard punch with kain a few times and couldn't figure out how I did it. I see it used in guard crush strings in vids...

A hard punch? I'm assuming it's one of Close C, Far C, or 2AB>5C chain. If you see it used in the Kain guard crush strings. It is most likely 2AB>5C

I know that sounds vague but I really didn't know how I did it. XD I don't have a copy of the game on me (I'm thinking I'll get the PS2 version even though I already have the DC one...not that expensive) but someone there was showing me the cancel thingy...but it was with 4A+C or something and he didn't do it with Kain... when you say 2AB do you mean crouch A then crouch B then standing C? or do you mean to press them at the same time and it creates a cancel so that move will come out? also can you do short hops in this game like in KOF XI? cause sometimes in vids it looks like they jump way lower than normal

Tiamat what're you talking about in ur 2nd paragraph about Feints/Cancels? As for ur 3rd paragraph, UAA (Universal AntiAirs or so I call them :P), are performed by pressing A+B while crouching. Kain has a follow-up to his UAA by pressing C when this attack hits that juggles opponents. Both these attacks are canceable, and at the corner you can do this damaging combo when in TOP mode- Jumping C-->UAA, CxxQCFx2+C-->TOP Attack ^Does somewhere around 100<damage<110, but only in TOP mode Finally I'm not sure about short hops, but you can tap Up and press an attack button and it'll come out.

I read about stuff on the SRK wiki for the game and learned a lot of thigns, I'm gonna get hte ps2 ver... i think it's interesting how they dont' let you just defend from short hops...good idea

Posted

I just picked this game up, I'm going Terry/Rock/Freeman. Freeman is garbage, but I have fun with him. No anti-air, in a game with short hops! OH BOY HE MUST BE GOOD!

Posted

heh yeah... i like that you can do scrubby combo from a low with 2B2B 236A x3 but yea... how does his super move red slash thing do as an anti air? any good? you can try to be cool and use the reversal super against jump ins I know that heh those cost meter of course and im not sure if the first one even works i posted this one the first page but i like this freeman vs kain match

I JD into counter super, or if I know a move's coming, I do it. The other super is only good for anti air if you catch them STARTING to jump, which is a load of shit. It's definitely the better use of super bar but I like the counter super too much to care. Also sometimes the counter super whiffs against early as hell jumpins and certain moves as far as I can tell. FUN. :v: I've been told that he can anti-air with his TOP move, but it doesn't work against short jumps on reaction so I don't count that.

Umm do you mean to say Freeman has no anti-air? Cuz his F, D, DF+P is his anti-air, and IIRC he can avoid some attacks while leaning back before slashing.

His P. Power counter is his strongest damaging attack BTW. Also if his S. Power counter connects at the corner, you can hit ur opponent with a Cr. C as an OTG.

Posted

No fast, reliable anti-air* Pretty much all but maybe 1 of his specials has invincibility frames, which is nice. That is in fact one of the ones that does have invincibility.

Jae Hoon's QCFx2+LK super is kickass; ANYTHING that combos into it will always result in at least a 1/3 of ur opponent's lifebar gone :yaaay:

Posted

isn't there a hidden followup to that super? i thought i saw it in a combo vid he also has a qcbK special in the air after his stomping move (air 2K?) that's not on his movelist if you didn't know

Posted

Nah. No follow up to Jae's B Super. You can easily combo A Super>B Super tho. That might've been what you saw. A lot of his moves do have follow ups tho. Jae's Air dive has 2 follow ups. QCB+K (Fire Dive) and df,f+K (Slide) His AA has a Knockdown follow up. His b,b+B can be special canceled before the Active frames. Lots of weird stuff on Jae. But yea... On the Subject of Jae's B Super. It's 1 frame start up so if you block anything that is bad on block at all you can punish with it. It's like -19 on Block tho so you just cant throw it out randomly tho.

Posted

^You forgot about his QCFx2+HP follow-up; simply do QCFx2+Hold HP and after landing Jae will charge for a powerful kick; release HP for the kick to connect

Any differences in the ps2 port? I never did research on it.

there are some sound glitches in the dreamcast version, and supposedly some input problems of some sort ps2 version is arcade perfect like the neo geo version, but also has a buffed up training mode including a recording feature I have the dreamcast version and it is still garou but im getting the ps2 version for convinience (i dont take my dreamcast to college with me) and also the better training mode is nice. gonna be re-learning the game when my copy arrives. kain ftw

This is taken from the Garou SRK wiki:

"The Japanese Playstation 2 version is the best home version. The controls are very tight and the game play is perfect. The only differences during play are the words 'Guard Cancel' do not flash on the screen like the other versions. The training mode is superior to all other versions, and allows for recording and playback of the training dummy's actions. For practicing setups and other single player training, this version is the best, even better than the pure Neo-Geo versions.

The Dreamcast version is the worst of all possible versions. It offers nothing over the Neo-Geo versions other than the unlockable image gallery and the arranged soundtrack mode. Inputs are delayed, and some versions show problems with sound effects delaying as much as 2 seconds from when they should play. If possible, select the original soundtrack option instead of the arranged soundtrack, and play on the original GD-ROM to lessen these effects. Even with these adjustments, this is the worst option for play; even playing on an emulator will be more satisfying. "

I also heard from someone that the Dreamcast version actually damaged the lens or something like that. Who knows, who cares? Just stick with the PS2 version I say.

hey I finally got my PS2 copy of MOTW a few days ago, been practicing Kain mostly. I like that there is a counterhit option, but it seemed bugged. moves that launch on counterhit in match play just cause stagger on the training mode from what I can tell, which is annoying. anyone else notice this? Also the recording feature isn't what I was expecting cause the srk wiki said you could record and play opponent but I can't figure out how. I have only been able to record my own inputs and play them which is pretty pointless. I could use 2 controllers and press play on one or whatever but that's just annoying. Any way to actually record the dummy? edit: nevermind about the recording feature problem, I sorta figured it out, you have to set the 2P's recorded command in vs player, then set them to CPU and set them to "command" on the attack menu. blerg! motw is fun as shit though
