Ok now i fee like dropping this game. Its absurd how simply over prioritize commands are. I play a poke style with freeman and its worthless against this play style. you can your opponents all you want but it wont do any good. Meta games cant even be implemented. This games so heavily on just defend that its mandatory for every play style.

I cant figure how to deal with such people. Every thing I co to counter only involves a backfire counter. Even upon successful just defends, no counter were quick enough or high priority to beat the other characters.

This one player name Mr. Blonde rape me excessfully. Now I know im going to be flam for this since I'm sound like a noob but this seriously stupid how this game physics out right breaks competition with safe commands and zero recovery jump in frame.

my friend plays as freeman all the time and he beats me as terry pretty often. freeman is a very defensive character, hence why it's so hard to play as him.

usually my friend will jd my pressure strings and counter with a tap -> s power super. really not that hard to get jd timing down for much of anything in this game.

of course, it sounds to me like you're just lagging alot. if you're judging a game based on how it plays on kaillera then i don't know what to tell you.

I hope you meant that freeman is a veryoffensive character. Now if you said Rock, I'd understand but Freeman is certainly an offense type character. His defensive options are nearly non-existent.

i should rephrase what i said.

if you're playing as freeman and you have a terry/rian player pressuring the hell out of you, your best bet is to jd and then counter with something really strong.

but under any other circumstances, you're right- freeman is very offensive. i didn't clarify that because the guy i was quoting was complaining about not being able to counter out of jd's when it's totally possible (albeit, risky) with freeman.

I hate Hotaru. Who the hell thought giving a character an air normal that stuffs AAs and AA supers would be a good idea?

admittedly i hate her too. high priority attacks kill but she managable fight off. only Dong and kevin i truly hate with a passion.

okay im giving up kailera with this game. The shear system seems to hurt Freeman more than compensate for his weakness. I may be a terrible fighter but the game seems to be more of an turn off now that I cant overcome these late comings. I understand Freeman low rank character but I don't understand the developers philosophy of freeman uses . He cant be play aggressively because most of his attack are punishable on guard and HIT?! (looks down on 623 a/c and 214 b/d properties) and the game system really doesn't enforce any defensive play, all one has is guard which can be use to the enemy advantage for frame trap setups. Just defend is the only good block in this game and freeman still cant benefit with it's guard cancel and reversal. I cant fathom how little freeman can implement his arsenal with this system. This game rewards aggressive game play far more than defensive.

well freemans tend not to use many special moves other than qcb+P x 3 also make sure you end that special string with the C ender, the A one is super extremely bad on block if you look at some howard arena matches on youtube, there are some good freemans that actually win

This guy has lots of high level garou matches.. if you care to learn just type freeman in the search box and it'll show all the matches with him.

JaimeDL(Nocturnal on SRK) has good amount of matches and he started a new Garou thread on SRK. Pretty much learned Dong/Jae/Kain from the info I got from him.

Why are you using him anyways... use someone better if you want to win more.

Yeah I don't like to be character dependent. If I cant play with the character I want to than I shouldn't be playing. I do like to win but I like to overcome my characters limits the problem I'm seeing is that the game system works against freeman in most situation. By fighting a really good veteran its really near impossible to get any advantage position against high level play.

okay I seen some of the matches but i can see some much fault of the opponents facing freeman, Not to say I can beat them but I seen and played better opponents. But I'm starting to think its kailera, lag is killer and this one thing I'm always notice is the player's I play always do random. I'm really surprise how they can effectively fight well and usually hey would just out beat me with frame trap due to online game play.

OK is it possible to combo Marco's ( BUTT) 623c+ab twice and follow up with T.O.P command that whiffs on last hit and juggles opponent for any super? Because this has been happening to me a lot and I cant do them my self. Now im about 85% sure it has to do with the Garou game version Ive been playing online, Ive not seen these type of crazy combo since earlier versions. Even Janet has some crazy combo that she can juggle her opponent with her 236 b or c command. I know their canceling them but the game system doesnt seem to allow it to hit after the first one.

You get more juggle/OTG options (and an extra brake, IIRC) off a counter-hit. Also I can assure you that you have not played better players on Kailera than you'll see in Howard Arena. Chances are most Kailera players you've met are using macros, though, so shrug.

keo-bas stop double-posting within minutes of your initial post. okay so i just saw this thread, and i saw someone say, much earlier, that this is one of the most balanced (SNK) fighters around. so then, why is this not a very popular game? (or am i just living under a rock?) e.g. is it balanced but boring for most people? or did it get a bad rep from people playing on incorrect versions of the game?

Garou Densetsu/Fatal Fury isn't quite as popular as KoF, I guess. Bad console ports (similar to the LB2 console port that killed DCs), only really had Kailera netplay to play against other people for a while, scene in Japan is just another "well people still play this somewhere" game. Stuff like that, as far as I can tell.

The PS2 port is damn good if I say so myself. And the only thing that's wrong with it is there's some training mode bug in which something(I forgot) doesn't show up on screen. As for Garou not being that popular well not a lot of people have it nor even really want to get it. Aside from GGPO and if you're lucky, local comp there isn't much to back it. There's a decent amount of Garou players(in the US and people somewhere in Japan) but Garou itself isn't easy to get like KOF XI or NGBC or SS. On top of that there isn't some movement to make Garou more popular either. Dark Geese had it in a tourney but there really isn't much exposure for it. Garou is largely unavailable for most people which is a major problem. People aren't going to get into a game that they can't get their hands on. When people see it they're interested though. I have it and I have the rom for GGPO but aside from Crimson and Alternate I know no one that plays Garou online.

it's more difficult than most other fighting games and it's an snk game to boot. it's never going to get popular :gonk:.

most of the ports have been pretty shitty though. i have really bad audio lag on a burned dreamcast version, but apparently this shows up in the commercial version as well if you have the music set to arrange.

really just has a lot of things going against it. and since when has a game being balanced helped it gain popularity? if games like mvc and smash bros haven't made it clear enough, fanservice is what sells first, balance sells second.

rtl42: IMO this is most balanced SNK game. also best SNK game (obviously very opinionated) great graphics by neogeo standards and solid gameplay. it's not hard to get into (like guilty gear is) but it's deep too

This game is out on XBLA, by the way. It's a well-done port, but there is practically nobody online, and anyone you do find has high latency and ends up kicking you for it. :vbang: But yeah, the lag is pretty annoying.

Posted

yeah I always hear the online for this game is terrible on xbox live game itself is gold though

Posted

Garou on xbla is THAT laggy online? i was seriously thinking 'bout buying it. i loved the game back then, it was(for me) way better than the other kofs.

Posted

Garou is a great but the port is meh. Online is dead for the most part and if you both are a good distance apart, then lag can get bad. One thing I notice whether online or offline, is that sometimes the game will think my left thumbstick is stuck in the 4 position, its most obvious in the character selection screen and it has screwed up some inputs in practice. But the odd thing is this is the only game that does this, so either Garou is that sensitive, my controller is bad, or someone grandly screwed up the port somewhere along the line. I'm going with option 3 since that problem only happens in Garou. Beyond that great game still.

It's possible that the game resets your controller when it starts, in which case whatever position your control stick is in would be set to neutral. That's unlikely, however, but it's possible. Just make sure you're not moving the control stick when the game starts up. But yeah, if you asked my opinion, I'd say the port was perfect, but the online wasn't.

Ugh.

Too bad, i couldn't wait to play this game again(against other people).
