To simply put it moves with high Proration Point decrease the hit stun and air untechable time. Also, should I bother messaging here anymore.. I kinda quit playing Carl months ago :psyduck: It kinda feels wrong since I don't main the guy and I'm just regurgitating all the info I learned ages ago. Another random unrelated note - Australia has BBCS fuck yes!!!

Allegretto > clap> allegretto > clap. :yaaay: j.B+C> 22D> 5C> j.B> j.C> 623D> j.B+C is fun gimmick if your opponent can't tech throws. :psyduck: extra 2A> 5A early in punch loop IE: 2A>5A>2A>5A helps against DP mashers. Crossups everywhere. and Non-Crossups. Play a very fundamental Carl, and you'll do fine. Also, 6A. Use it.

Also, 6A. Use it.

Seriously?

Moar range?

Active frames?

Shorter recovery?

Please, enlighten me!!!!

EDIT:

About the combo in the quote in the post below mine, will the j.B connect on certain crouching characters?

Or rather, isn't it possible that it might whiff on ALL crouching characters, save for Tager and maybe Rachel and Hakumen?

Just a thought

Hi,

I started playing CS recently thanks to a friend who owns the game. I'd like to have some feedback on these matchs so that I can improve my play. For example what you guys think I should do or not do etc...

Also you'll probably notice it while watching the vids but I have to point out that I have heavy problems with some essential inputs like B > 6B > 236A > 6D strings or IAD 2C allecan because I have the bad habit of doing things too fast. I definitely have to work on that. ^^

Anyone have any particularly good strategies for beating this punk? I can't stand losing to him and the whole "second wall" strategy I keep being victim to.

Hit Tager when he sledges through Volante/623d. Something is wrong with the way you tech out of the stagger/hitstun of tagers 5d.

To be honest I SUCK at fighting games (I've always been more of a casual player), I can do input all of the moves and such but I can't combo for the life of me. Even so, fighting games are crack for me. So I bought Blazblue a couple days ago and decided this is it, I am going to become decent at a fighting game for once. So I look at all of the characters and none of them really spark my interest (unlike in guilty gear where it is hard to choice what character to play because they are all so interesting) except Carl Clover. He had a cool character design and an interesting drive, except for he is hard as hell to play. I'm not a great player as it is, but I just get my butt handed to me every time no matter what level of player I'm fighting. At least when I choose a different character I at least stand a chance or win sometimes. So the question is, should I just truck it with Carl or pick a different main until I get more of a feel for the game and then try and learn Carl. If so, none of the other characters interest me so it's hard to choose, any suggestions? Sorry for rambling, and my terrible grammar, especially since I was asking such an easy question. (wtf :psyduck: has this always been here?)

To answer your question, stick with Carl. If you have enough motivation you will practice and with that practice you'll get rid of you inability to perform. Join your local scene! They will (should) hopefully teach you the basics. Also, you didn't need another thread for this. Its looked down upon to make an entire thread for such a small question.

I'm gonna go and say no. I say this only because according to you, you've only had this game a couple of days and you seem to be determined to start beating people with him immediately. When I first got BB, sure I did player matches but I stayed away from Ranked match for a week. I was in training mode constantly. Carl takes effort, and hours training mode is necessary to get him down. Weeks and weeks of practice. I have a 73% win rate with Carl and there are plenty of other Carl players who are better than I am because they put in the effort. So if you're discouraged about playing Carl (the hardest character in the game to play besideds Rachel) after only a couple of days, I'd say no. If you're willing to do the dirty work and practice then I'd say stick with him. Carl is A tier for a reason. I didn't play anyone else to get use to the game. I played Carl in the beginning. To be honest I believe that kind of mentality is a trap. You'll end up playing someone else and then think that you'll later go back and pickup Carl, but you'll find yourself just sticking with the first character because you're already good with him/her and don't want to go through the headache of learning Carl. Some first steps on learning Carl: 1. Read the guides 2. Watch TONS of videos. go to youtube.com/autonomousR. You'll have to go back through several pages of his videos but he easily has the biggest collection of Carl videos on youtube. Watch as many Calamity Trigger videos to your heart's content to see what the heck you're suppose to do with this kid.

I guess if he doesn't want to play BB any further than casually then Carl would be an incorrect choice.

I wish Carl was an easy-win button. :(

Thanks for the help everyone! It's not that I expect to be good in a few days, or even months, like I said, I suck at fighting games, even though they are my game of choice. I do plan on putting in the hard work and trying to break out of the casual player mold. I was just wondering if it is really even possible for someone who utterly sucks at video games to pick up such a difficult character like Carl.

Posted

Yes you can do it. You have to start out somewhere. Take it from me, the whole "if you're new or suck at fighting games don't pick 'this' character" mentality is false. Guilty Gear was the first game I entered tournaments in, and I mained Zappa, one of the hardest characters in the game to learn. If you like Carl, you can go far with him.

Blazblue is my first serious fighting game and I play Carl. It took a long time to wrap my mind around him but I win or place well in every local tourney I go to now. Without using the infinite, at that. You have to expect to lose a lot with Carl at first, especially if you don't use a stick. His execution barrier is huge.

I don't know if this is the right topic to ask this buuuut... I just got an arcade stick today, and I'm having the worst time instant air dashing to the right. I can do it 100% of the time to the left, but no luck on the right. I have my thumb set to right side of the ball, index and middle finger on the top, and ring finger on the bottom. I can get his clap and ground loops down, but my only problem is the IAD. Any tips? :v:

The only thing I'd give advice on is extending your sandwich loops, it seemed like you ended alot of your loops early with 6C.

No shortcuts. Honestly there will be things that'll take a couple of weeks to get use to. For me it was airdashing and shoryukens. So yeah just keep on practicing.

With sticks you will without a doubt have a "better" side. Doing a motion on side is easier than the other. Period.

Posted

I'm getting the hang of the shoryu motion and air dashing, but my only problem now is just practicing with the stick. My ultimate concern is using the 2A>2B>3C>22D>IAD>j2C>Alle~can>2C>etc. I can rarely do the IAD in time, especially on the right side. Any tips there? 3: EDIT: I also use the ABCD format with no shortcuts.

No tips besides just practice practice practice. Honestly if this is your first day at using a stick you shouldn't expect so much. patience. Just concetrate on getting the 96 or 74 motion down pack. I've been using stick for years and it took me a few daYs to incorporate 22D into my IAD j2C allecan combos. Just concentrate on doing the motions properly. Slowly if you have to.

Dunno if this has been mentioned before, but I figured I'd toss it out here: Nirvana's commands are now with respect to actual spatial relations instead of Carl's direction.

So, for example, C-O-N airdash right to become O-C-N (j.:f::f:), once past the opponent, Carl is facing right (i.e. "forward" D). In BBCT, right-D (:f::dbt:) would be 6D because Carl is facing right; but now in BBCS, now that "true sides" are switched, right-D (:f::dbt:) in this situation becomes 4D even though Carl is facing right (i.e. "away" D).

Carl's own commands are still based on the direction he faces, though. i.e. in the above situation, Allegretto/Alle-can is still down-downleft-left (:d::db::b::cbt:), CT and CS.

In short, the rules for Nirvana commands in crossups is different in BBCS.

So, if Carl is on the left side of a sandwiched opponent, with him facing right, and Nirvana's on the right side facing left, then doing a 6D motion will cause Nirvana to punch left?...It could take some getting used to, but might make things actually easier in retrospect, if it only applies to ground loops and such. If the commands for Nirvana are reversed in all of her actions...:vbang:
