Also, you can use this (Nico Redirector) to watch nico vids if you don't have an account.

Wow, that guy's awesome! XD

Does he have a name?

...And what's with the announcer? <_<

Just wanted to say good games Zoogs. I was a little too free against Leonil. Wish I could have done more mirror matches with you. Could you give me any tips for my Carl?

Also congrats on winning your tournament! :D

I was free for him the first time I played him. I've gotten a lot better against his Hakumen. I can definitely beat him now. He's good though thats for sure.

Against his Hakumen, if you can manage to get close to him the increase your throw game. He wants those counters badly. If the match is neutral here are a few things that I do:

1. send Nirvana towards Hakumen. Making him back away a little. Then I chill WAAAAAY behind nirvana just outside of Hakumen's IAD j.C or j.2C range. That way you don't have to block anything should he wanna air dash past nirvana. At that point you have him in an ideal position (between you and nirvana). However he is by no means helpless but at this point you're now at an advantage. Approach with caution.

2. If that match is neutral and he's spamming 4C. Thats when I start super jumping up and down up and down up and down. The idea is when the time is right you can do Carl's descending airdash to try to catch him off guard.

3. If he's using a lot of 4C and isn't spazzing out with them, then I'll wait for Hakumen to wiff a move and then activate nirvana and do 6D. This is by no means a punish, but Hakumen's tend to either attack nirvana immediately (in which case there's not much you can do), or they for some reason pause and then try to hit her at the last second and end up getting counter hit. I love it.

In terms of his Ragna, you gotta block like crazy. You really have to move a lot in this match since he plays such an aggressive Ragna. Hand behind nirvana and stay out of his IAD j.C range. He basically had some canned mixups that were actually pretty good and was getting the best of both of us.

BTW, from I heard apparently Ragna has gone down on the tier list. Simply put, to counter Ragna you just have to block. If you defense is good, he absolutely cannot hurt you. He doesn't have decent crossups and if your nerves are on point on any given day you can block any of his overheads. Ragna solely relies on his opponents messing up.

As for you personally. You, like I, gotta make sure we can get our combos down more consistently. We were both dropping way too many. Caaaaaarllll!!!!

Get into training mode and go at it. Thats where I was before Leonil invited me to the room.

Quick question, in terms of priority where does carl stand wit his 5a... Bangs being first then Makoto, & Tao i think..... were would carl be ?.?

Posted

Yeah good stuff Zong and Isuyaru.

About the Carl's jab. Its not bad but I don't think there is an exhaustive list that you can make. Its 6 frames of startup. Ragna's is 7 and I don't know about some of the other characters.

Grats to everyone who won tournies ;O, hopefully we'll have a BBCS tourney around this way sometime.

Also, Oh my god, 6k combo @_@, I REALLY have to stop procrastinating and learn that 2D into 4D combo..

Hey do any of you guys know a beginner combo for Carl? I've never used him before but i like his play style and i need a combo to start off playing competitively with him online but i don't know which ones i should be using!:psyduck:

If you've managed to sandwich the opponent between Carl and Nirvana, then (5B > 2B > 6B> 6]D[ > 6C) > 2A > Repeat bracket area.

Edit: Basically, when the combo goes on for too long, your opponent will be able to start blocking your attacks. This is when you can do your resets and mixups.

The thing with Carl is that there is a lot of freedom within his combos. So it's kinda hard to just give combos to you.

Also, the most important thing with Carl is to learn how to position Nirvana, and how to sandwich your opponent.

My internet connection was awful yesterday, 0 bars with everyone. I didn't play on-line. =[

Worse news, is the flood actually did kill my dvd-R recorder, i had it all set-up and recording, but when I press STOP after record the machine gets real mad at me. It will be a while before I get vids made. =[

Oki/Tech Traps

Long Combo into 8]D[ KD, Carl inputs 3C,:

3]D[- If the opponent neutral/emergency techs, Carl will slide under their sprite as Nirvana hits low on the other side. Carl can easily continue the combo.

2]D[- If the opponent back rolls, Carl's sweep is a badass launch. Carl can easily continue the combo.

?- If the opponent forward rolls, I haven't experimented with this yet.

I know on Carl's end, 5C is pretty good.

I'm thinking volante for Ada.

Something like punish roll with 5C >meaty volante hits > j.2C allecan > combo.

Can you try this? I'm at work with no training mode.

Carl will be doing the 3C animation at this point.

The real question is, if the 3C is spaced right, can it pick-up forwardroll/backroll & still cross-under for emergency techs?

Posted

I don't think it can. Anytime I've tried to space it to cover all techs, back roll ends up being safe.

Posted

would fuoco start up fast enough to at least keep them in block stun for carl to end his 3C animation and IAD alle~can?

Kyle edit

Oh good Lawd~ which direction would we input fuoco on?!?!?!?

Posted

fuoco doesn't catch tech roll, atleast not in time, so they could just tech backward behind nirvana.

Posted

Definitely too slow.

I mean, you could react, and try to put them in block stun with it if they tech backward.

But all they'd have to do is jump/use another evasive maneuver.

Plus, even if they blocked fuoco, you still have the problem of getting back in on them.

This is why we want them to stay in the sandwich in the first place.

3C/2D/2B/5C/3D/Volante are decent tools for this.

Only thing to do now is eliminate their teching options.

Best case scenario being, make neutral tech the only option, and gain strong mixup on that neutral tech. That is our mission atm.

Kyle why are we editing my posts c.c?

Kyle edit

b/c I didn't want to post answering your question with another question. =P

Quick Question

For the Grab, J.2CAllecan/2D 5C j.2cAllecan Volante j.2C 4D? J.C combo in the video, Whats the timing for the 4D? Immediately after the Volante? Or during the j.2c? I can't get it to land for the life of me.

Posted

OBJECTION!!*slams hands on desk* .....already overruled.what akiro said actually.I can't really seem to get that down neither.I tried it after volante then before I knew it I heard "counta!" then at j.2c,I only missed.i think I may be doing it wrong or I'm just way off of practice.
