Soniti Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 The fact that Denjin and FFA haven't picked it up hurts the Socal scene a lot too =/
IkeTakeda Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 From what I heard from people, they thought that we were running a CT tournament. The main site game section shown that there is calamity trigger as one of the game. Also showing the pre-reg wasn't really a smart idea. Overall this tournament was hype.
ZONG_one Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 They clarified that it was a CS tournament. :golduck: But yeah, having a CT logo on the site was weird. Oh well. Anyone who plays CS is probably on here, in which case, they should've known about it.
MiraclePizza Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 If I were a better player I'd have tried my luck for $30 I guess?
AlmightyGnat Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 The fact that Denjin and FFA haven't picked it up hurts the Socal scene a lot too =/ This.
render Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 Shout-out post First off, congrats to Bang Camaro for the win. Too sick. Thanks for driving me and others around over the weekend too. Norms was freaking awesome. WAY the hell better than Denny's. @DacidBro: I think I owe you a few DPs. I watched our match and I really let you jump around like a fairy the whole time. I'm gonna come back stronger and more patient (and better at not getting command thrown), so be ready. I don't give a shit if Bang's way better than Jin - this is America. Japanese tiers don't apply over here. @Zong: Yes, I'd like something from Togo's. :3 haha, that was fucking hilarious, btw. XD Let's go to AI again soon. @Sanchez: You are a gentleman. And a baller. Seriously, dude... learn a couple of bread-and-butter combos and you will be winning a lot more. You're a really solid player - you're just not netting a lot of damage when you land hits. haha, I know you really just like to troll people, though. @Mike Z: It is an honor to be your friend and your opponent. I'm more hype about Skullgirls than Marvel 3 for sure. I wanna play it more! XD Miss Fortune is my girl. @Mike Z again: <3 @CopperDabbit: You are awesome and I wish I could see you more often. I've always been afraid of your Arakune, and still am. Can't wait to fight you again. :3 @Goryus: It was great to see you! It'd be nice to visit NorCal for one of the tournies up there sometime soon. I'll see if I can make it actually happen. ^^; Also, thanks for running the tourney. @shtkn & BANGER & Sanchez: JIN IS SO AWESOME. LET'S WIN ONE OF THESE TOURNAMENTS. JIN TOP 3 LET'S GO! XD @Ike: You've improved a lot, man. Sorry I couldn't win and make you take your pants off. -__-; NO HOMO AMIRITE? @Soniti: Really good to see you, man @Biter: Thanks for all the advice, sensei! haha sorry I couldn't put all of it to use in the top 4. It really helped against my other matches, though!! @Xie: CHANTO... IE YO!! I know I'm missing a other people, but uhh.. too bad. Uhh, so where was the rest of the SoCal crew? pulsr? Purrin? Kennyon?
Spirit Juice Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 I like how Render types like a 16 year old girl on Facebook when he's excited. <3
IkeTakeda Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 And I was dead serious about me taking off my pants... I would throw it on bang/dacid bro face and stuff.
Mr. Camaro Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 shout outs: @Bang Camaro: I hate you, why do you play this game? @render: hi @Sanchez: what's up @Mike Z: hello @JasonD: hey there
Dacidbro Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 "@DacidBro: I think I owe you a few DPs. I watched our match and I really let you jump around like a fairy the whole time. Lol.

Render: -Denny's > Norms, trust me. -Yes, that was funny, and just let me know when you want to go. -If you do this, take me with you. -All I know is Kennyon had a beach date with his girl. Dacid: -That means Sanchez definitely won the war. 5 DP's or 1 yukikaze, and Sanchez will get up, winning the match by default.
AlmightyGnat Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 -Denny's > Norms, trust me. . I've got to disagree here.
mooyang90 Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 Dennys or Norms? Trick question, the answer is they're both a crappy way to waste $8.50. IHOPs please.
Jason D. Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 Hey, shout-outs. I want to try this too. To everyone: Good games. I hope I didn't forget anyone. Also, I would totally ditch you guys if I had a date too. No matter how good render looks in a skirt. Oh yeah, and does anyone have the full bracket? Because I think I made top 8.
ZONG_one Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 I agree with mooyang, actually. (Even though that wasn't one of the original choices.)
DoomieJ Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Dennys or Norms? Trick question, the answer is they're both a crappy way to waste $8.50. IHOPs please. Waffle House > all of those. EC knows how to eat their breakfast food late at night.
Dacidbro Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 No matter how many times you say it, it will not change. Lol. If it gets that far under your skin, wait for console.
Dacidbro Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 I waited 8 or so months for new Bang, you guys can do it Oh, if you're impatient, pick a top tier, that works too
render Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Alright, time for the feedback post. GOOD ----- The free drinks night was fun as hell. Should have done some grudge matches for the big screen or raffle giveaways or something, but otherwise I don't think this part of Warzone could've been any better. And dude, free Werther's Originals? So awesome. Free water Good shit. Smooth tournaments/well-organized Everything went smoothly. And there were absolutely no problems at all with running the tournaments. There were two TVs dedicated to BB (one of which ended up as aSkullgirls setup, which was fine since the other BB setup didn't happen), and there was no waiting around for other tournies to finish to be able to start BB. Nice venue Really nice ballroom in a nice hotel. Location was great too. Free apples at the front desk. Clean bathrooms. Good stuff. BAD ----- BB finals were not hype This is partially due to the low turnout (see below) and the fact that not many people in the other communities give a crap about BB. The first thing I would suggest is to not have BB go first. I realize that you want the tension to build higher and higher as you get to the last game, but having a game that's a little less popular than the rest go first dooms it to a low audience turnout because people will just skip it before the games they really want to see are up. BB was over pretty fast, partially because there was a lot of Bang, but also because it was just the top 4, which means you could have been run in almost any time slot. I'm not saying it should be run 2nd-to-last, when everyone will be sitting there just thinking "do SF4 already!", but running a semi-popular game like HDR or Tekken first, and then BB somewhere in the middle or really anywhere but first would help a lot. To make the finals more hype, I think it would help to have someone who knows the game, but is also going to make it palatable for the audience who doesn't give a crap. MAKE IT FUNNY OR ENTERTAINING SOMEHOW. For the love of god, help us appeal to the SF heads. When people who don't know the game commentate about how they don't know the game, and that everything is ultra anime, all the people listening are gonna nod and think "yeah, I don't get it either." Low-ass turnout for BB Now, I'm not going to place the blame for the low turnout squarely on West Coast Warzone. That's unfair. To a great extent, it's up to the community to get hype and represent their game. What I WILL do is try to highlight some factors that made it difficult for players to get very hype or to even show up. 1. The venue fee This was a really big factor. It doesn't help that the BB/GG community is poor as fuck. However, correct me if I'm wrong, but the cost of the venue is what makes the venue fee so high. Maybe you should scale it back and make it a worthwhile tournament at a smaller venue before you make a big production out of it and host it at a snazzy hotel. EVO started small, and is hosted in a big-ass hotel because it worked its way up to that point. The players don't give a SHIT about the venue, as long as you give them a place to play their games, and the hotel staff doesn't treat them like shit. Scale back on the venue - you can have a successful tourney without holding it in some fancy hotel. On the flipside - and I'm looking at you, BB community - you bums need to get jobs or something. You knew this tourney was happening MONTHS in advance. $30 or $40 is not very much money, and is totally worth the amount of experience you get playing against other people in a larger-scale tournament. Now that I think about it, though, $30+ IS a lot of money considering that... 2. There was no extra money in the pot I can't present a very strong argument here when a lot of the community didn't even enter/show up, but I think this directly correlates: When money is on the line, people get fucking hype. My $1 rock-paper-scissors money match with Dae was more hype than BB finals. WHY? BECAUSE IF I WON I WOULD GET DOUBLE WHAT I PAYED TO ENTER. Triple Threat brought players all over the place because it had a guaranteed pot of like $3000. Granted, everyone got burned because it was a poorly organized tournament run by people who had little experience, do you think anywhere near as many people would've showed up if there wasn't a significant amount of prize money on the line? BB finals at Triple Threat was fucking HYPE has HELL. I'm not saying you should drop that kind of cash in the pot. The point I'm trying to make is that majors have major CASH to be won. I can only assume you're losing money on these tournaments, and I think what you're doing for the community is great, but when the 2nd and 3rd place players LOSE money overall, then what is the incentive to place high? You are effectively costing the community money to place high in your tournament. OH RIGHT, I FORGOT THAT YOU GET TO BE ON THE STREAM AND PEOPLE ON THE INTERNETS CAN WATCH YOU WHILE ARGUING ABOUT WHY SF4 SUCKS. 3. Pre-registration requirement It's my understanding that the pre-reg requirement was made because you wanted to avoid having a bunch of players show up on the day of the tournament and screw up your schedule. I think it's a good idea, and I'm happy to see you trying to learn from past experience, but this unfortunately doesn't work for games that don't have an automatic 80 fucking people at each tournament (i.e. SF4). For games that don't draw people like flies to crap, requiring everyone to pre-reg and NOT take walk-in sign-ups means that all of the lazy people who don't look of tourney info beforehand but just show up are screwed. Pre-reg should not have been required for anything but SF4. Also, "If I had pre-reg'd 2 weeks ago I would've only payed $30, but it's $40 now. Fuck it, I just won't go." <-- This happens a lot. Oh, and also, if someone asks you in a forum how many people are pre-reg'd for your tournament - DON'T TELL THEM. That's bad sales sense. Letting everyone know that you've only got 10 people signed up less than 2 weeks before the actual tournament only gives people another excuse NOT to go. 4. Version confusion/indecision You need to make a final decision about this kind of thing early on. You had plenty of time (months!) to confirm with MikeZ or whoever could provide you with a setup for CS, but you were still talking to Aksys about a console version or whatever in March. This should NOT happen. You need to set a deadline for when you're going to finalize the line-up of games, and it needs to be early. If Aksys is like "well, we don't know yet - we'll get back to you", you say "too bad, suckaz" and do what you can without 'em. Look at EVO. EVO isn't until JULY, and they made sure to finalize their line-up in... when was it? Early February? You simply CANNOT afford to have confusion about what game is going to be played at your tournament if you want people to spend money on attending. If you want Warzone to be a major, treat it like one. Also, even after you decided that it would be CS, you left the CT logo on the WZ2 website. ---Other comments--- Easter is a family holiday. What happened to the room prizes? I thought there was going to be a raffle to win stuff if you stayed in a room, but no one ever mentioned anything ever. Would've been nice to have a dedicated stream slot that matched the start-time of the BB tourney. When we started more-or-less on-schedule, we found out halfway through our tournament that our stream slot was long after our tournament would be over.
