Effenhoog Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 Tier lists are almost always based on opinion as much as they are on actual data, so coming up with one "official" list is pretty much impossible. What we have in the first post are a variety of both top players' opinions and tier lists made by groups of top Japanese players. If you look at all of them, especially the most recent ones, you can see general trends in where a particular character is usually placed and get a fair idea of where the overall competitive community believes that character belongs on the tier list. Ogawa's list is just the most recent one, so it is bolded while the others are grayed out.

When Mitsurugi said it's 7:3 on Zappa, people commented things like "Mitsurugi is being too nice" and "it has to be 9:1 on Zappa." So there you have it.
qwerty Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 i don't think that's the same match? as i recall satou got facerolled in the second round and the announcer told him to cheer up afterwards. satou won in the one you linked. as for a bad matchup making gg look bad, i don't think that's the case. if anything, it shows that the game is still evolving years into it's lifespan. satou ended up winning sbo anyways so it's not like there's much room for shit talk in that regard. that, and it's not uncommon for even really well balanced games to have a few unusually bad matchups. vf games usually have a few, as do games like motw, etc.

Um, Satou lost. Satou lost his match in both the Semi-finals and Finals. Also, his team lost to the wrecking crew (Shounen, Woshige, N-Otoko) in the finals, so facts be whack. I agree on the terms of the game still evolving after its many years.

I haven't seen anything newer than the first match up chart -the one that had slayer below axl/faust (one of the two)- besides ogawa and nemo character-specific stuff, which aren't too useful. Technically, tier-lists are suppose to be a match-up chart as well, otherwise it's just a "this guy is stronger than that guy" sort of thing. But yeah, Tier-lists don't tell me who are my bad/good match-ups aka who I should practice against, which is what I need.

Frank The Tank Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 If you look at the various opinions of top players(which, in case it hasn't been said enough, are all matchup charts/tier lists are made up of anyways), they generally differ quite a bit. This makes a comprehensive matchup chart pretty impossible to make without causing an assortment of arguments. Just as an example, I personally think that Robo is a horrible matchup for May, but I only know of one Robo player in this country that agrees with me (JackG, coincidentally the best Robo in this country). Hell, the vast majority of the players in this country think that May is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better than she actually is. EDIT FOR MSONG: Two Robos.
