GenoWhirl Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 Okay so Rachel player here. Tager vs Rachel is at best 5:5, at worst, 6:4. If you land a random sword iris or Lobelia, that's atleast loli 1.9k there or you get time to summon pumpkin or whatever. Fork is not useless. You can get 3.6K from a CH fork into LV 4 TD. And in this match-up, this happens a lot. Even if you have no meter, you can link 5A if you're close enough from 6B into a 2.4k combo or oki. With a pole nearby you can get like 2.7k for one wind. (It looks sexy, too!) You can use Cat chair on reaction to B Sledge (I do it all the time!) for minimum 2K, if you have meter I'll make that into 4k thank you. Our BNB has a variation on Tager that costs no wind and still does 2.8k, hurray (or more with 1 wind). 6A beats J.2C clean and you can get 2.5k + pumpkin oki from it. 3.8K minimum and oki from 5B for NO wind on tager and 50 meter is pretty good. You can also lock him down in the corner by mixing up normals with A lobelia. A lobelia in CH combos into 5B and you can get some sweet damage in the corner from that. We also still have our good old run like a bitch with wind. Now on the bad side. Magnetism will completely, utterly fuck you up. When you're magnetized and close to Tager, it becomes a mindgame of such proportions with so much risk and little reward you feel like putting the controller down, GETB is half of your bar and one mistake is enough to turn the tide completely into Tager's favor. Gadget Finger can be beat by Backdash 4D unless Tager uses 5D or 2D, but you can beat that with pokes. Fullscreen away, if Jason didn't lie you just fucking go winded 6C towards Tager like WEEE and it'll beat his 5D lol. if he blocks it you cancel into j.C and go into loli aerial mixup, or airdash away. So uh basically, don't fuck up

But yeah, Bang and Litchi have somewhat of an advantage over Ragna is that their game is pretty stagant and random hits lead to big payoffs, while Ragna is a whole lot less scarier when you can block overheads and relies on being random to get his damage and meter. (Which is probably why America still thinks he's Top 3 while Japan has him as dead middle just like CT)

After watching Nor Cal install, we can't tech purple throws either lol EDIT: True Hiago, but notice how it's becoming increasingly more common that Arakune, Hazama, Carl, and even Hakumen at times have been placed above him now. In terms of numbers of chars in the cast, that puts him at 5th/6th/7th out of 14 potential characters. Close to dead middle is a pretty accurate statement in the land of defense

Maybe it's because Jin just has a worse match up against Ragna, or I've not been fighting good ara's, but I can't see Ara beeing better. getting curse isn't that hard to avoid, and you have a several chances to not get cursed (doesn't really have oki), whereas Ragna wipes out a 3rd of your health and now you have to deal with more pressure that you can't 2A (or in jin's case even DP) due to range problems.
huey253 Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 100 percent curse combo super easy guardcrush into 8k combos burst safe curse combos. and you've probably not been fighting good arakunes. because you usually mess up once and lose the round/burst for it. arakune is the worst character in the game outside of curse mode, and certain characters can keep him out of it pretty well.

Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 so really why is Rachel vs Tsubaki not 5:5 It may be because Tsubakis don't exist but give me an actual reason Well I haven't fought a lot of Tsubakis either, but it isn't hard for her to build up charges during the match, and her pressure can be pretty bad for Rachel, mostly because of her charge canceling and 5B. She's like a mini Ragna when she's in your face. She can also IB and DP along with the best of them. Her unblockable gimmicks are a real pain too, if spaced properly, since Rachel has no invincible moves. Rachel's "DP" is a guard point, which the unblockable will just chew right through.

If you fight a good Arakune 1 hit = at least 50% curse and don't tell me you go around and perfecting every Arakune you fight since you don't... He is pretty bad once he is getting rushed by most characters, but one mistake vs Arakune and you are cursed after that its game over. Bang, Litchi and Lambda are really bad matchups for him though, but outside of those 3 matchups he is definitely the most scary char to fight for the other player.
smooshman Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 ^ I don't go around beating Ara's all the time, but comparing my experience vs Ragna and Arakune, I'll fight Arakune every time, but again I haven't fought many arakunes and of them all I only fought one that did a full death combo... but it was close enough that I wasn't bothered. you mad? *sigh* hyperbole never works on the internet.
