FullAutoDeath Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 I'll take 100 loses with me getting help to figure out something new vs 10 easy wins anyday. Same here. Definitely something I've gotten used to. One of the reasons why I don't care about my W/L ratio when playing.
Skye Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 Losing streak? Get better or deal with the bad match up.
A.X.I.S. Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 your losing because your playing online. deal with it.
Hi I'm Asylum Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 K so I've realized D-countering with Haku is pretty much impossible with input lag. : / Makes him a lot harder to use on XBL. Oh well, I'm going to stick with him and lose with him until CS comes out, then I will drop him for Lambda and Kune, this time not completely broken.
Konner Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 your losing because your playing online. deal with it. I can beat my friends offline no problem, but online is just stupid. I can be yellow or green bar and have bouts of lag that are pretty bad.
Black Onslaught Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 I love inputting the command for carnage scissors against a Nu, and the game just stops. Then it resumes in 30 seconds and goes straight to the after-match results screen with me losing. That's pro.
Fugu Posted July 10, 2010 Posted July 10, 2010 K so I've realized D-countering with Haku is pretty much impossible with input lag. : / Makes him a lot harder to use on XBL. Oh well' date=' I'm going to stick with him and lose with him until CS comes out, then I will drop him for Lambda and Kune, this time not completely broken.[/quote'] I don't know about that (granted I'm playing CS). Every match I play is laggy because I'm Canadian in a sea of Japanese and what I've found is that playing against Hakumen is just asking to lose because 6C is too hard to punish with the input lag and any of the D counters are godly because you can't decide not to attack when you see someone fire one off too early (because you've already pressed the button; the screen just hasn't caught up to that yet).
Penguinlord3792 Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 I know this is a very general tip & everyone may not have the time to do such a thing but, it might be very beneficial to find some local players in your area. I mean talking with a mic. online is great & everything, but I think it's a lot easier when there is someone actually there to "coach" you so to speak. That's what I did after having the game for like a week & not getting any better. Plus you never know, those strange people you thought it would be a one time thing might just turn out to be some very good friends for you. It's not that hard to find people to play with either, but that's just my opinion since I'm still in high school, where it's extremely easy to make friends & meet people. So after all the trouble I went through finding people & such, I now have 5 close friends I play BB with & now where all eagerly awaiting the U.S. release of CS. Also I like playing local better because I don't feel inferior like I do online or have "I'm gonna get raped!" or "Shit!, not the Ice Car!!!!!" in the back of my head & also you always will have someone there to be the snack bitch while everybody else can keep playing.
raptor_rev Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 as a new player to 2d fighters, I can say starting out by playing seriously online actually HURT my playstyle. the character I picked to main was rachel... a bad choice in general for the first-time player who should be mastering the basics. i started playing online near launch, and i found i could win fairly easily by mastering her cannon moves; i guess people hadn't learned how to deal with rachel yet. i mean, i didn't ONLY spam cannon -i knew how to use wind, and pumpkin, and a few reeeeeeally basic combos. but by caring about winning rather than learning how to play the game, i got way more skilled at timing the cannon than anything else. which came back to haunt me pretty hard when people started aggressively rushing me and i hadn't learned how to block you can't take online play too seriously -I agree with other posters who say NEVER expect to win. whenever you go in wanting to win really bad, you get more easily frustrated or intimidated by good players, and end up playing WORSE. i play my best when i see every match as a challenge to see how well I can PLAY against the opponent, whether i win or lose. i find i lose less frequently/play better when i go in with that mindset, and when i do lose -even if i get trashed- i don't get nearly as frustrated. the glory's not in victory, but in a match well-played. besides, i think we've all seen matches where the person who played better didn't necessarily win! (tao vs. arakune, rachel vs. nu, carl vs anyone... )
BoomBoxBeats Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 LOL I have a mean losing streak its intresting lost to some scrubs, got worked by skilled fighters and barely lost to some that were just 1 step ahead I'm not good at defense I've always been an on the offensive hence why I started playing tao first. I try to pressure but against someone with a better pressure game I always lose cause my defense is crappy like wet paper. I only start to speed up when I'm annoyed Example "Noel Drive Spammers" I never have good games I either have close ones or random comebacks. Taking time now in CS to work on that but everyone is different so predicting moves and patterns isn't easy for me in this game. I will admit my biggest weakness is I'm easily agitated when I'm sober.
TD Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 l started off online, with Rachel/Ragna and like, no experience at all. Now imagine playing with a short range loli when you don't know tricks yet lol And l lost ALOOOOT. But l loved the game so much l was sad but it didn't bother me, not like now. NOW, i'd have a 30+ win streak and still bitch if l lose even once. Yes. And it got real bad at one point, l thought l was goin crazy, real talk. My advice is to relax and read the guides. Everytime l read a guide even if l did a million times l learn. Have fun
sergetrigger Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 God knows how many matches I lost till I started winning... When I got up to level 25-30 or so, my win percentage was around 30 or 40%, then I started focusing on my main's strengths and weaknesses, and what basic bnb's to learn...
Yuai367 Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 I know the losing streak mentality all too well *_* If you start losing too much, just get offline and go into the training room and practice combos, blocking, etc, or watch videos of the character you play as, or even replays of you winning a match. It helps raise your spirits when things aren't looking well.
KrazySh0t Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 hmmm... Losing is part of the game. Reason I was so happy about buying CT on opening day was cause I was getting in on the ground level of a new fighting series and wouldn't have to spend as much time catching up and learning mechanics (like trying to learn GG now). Sure I still lost a bunch, but you gotta build the foundation of your game before you can start to learn the good stuff, and that involves losing against people. Playing the computer doesn't help, cause its the same for any fighting game, find the move on your main that the computer can't block (which may or may not be a punishable move) and spam it till you win. Right now when CS comes out I'm going to have to relearn the game cause I've switched to playing with a stick in fighting games and while SF4/SSF4 is easy (cause its so damn slow) BB is fast. I'm aware this will come with a bunch of losses and I'm prepared for that. I just know that with practice, I'll get better and it'll be all good in the end. p.s. It also helps that I know some people in my area who like to play fighting games
Latiosking Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 I had dealt with a few times in BB due to alot of reasons(BB was my first Ps3 game and first time i experienced online play and too so i went crazy also i went online FIRST DAY) Then i came to a realization that i didn't go to training mode EVER. After that, I started practicing almost everyday and got tons better. Before i sold BB I was level 60 and was able to increase my win percentage about 20% in about 2-3 weeks after the many losses i had. with Cs coming in a few days and im starting to learn a stick, i gonna experience alot of losses and this time im ready fro them(Training mode ALL DAY FIRST DAY) Online friends and causal matches help alot to get over it
Keo-bas Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 Latley Ive been trying to understand the losing mentality. and lately I found my self being a sore loser when compare to online or ranking. How ever when in casual than I feel more relax in losing.
mAc Chaos Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 You don't lose when you get beat. You lose when you give up.
Dragonslayer9 Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Losing streaks can be a pain in the ass sometimes to deal with, I think you should study more on what your getting beat by and put yourself in training mode, start make the training dummy do stuff you have a hard time countering and just try to see what your options are in that situation. And remember, DON'T TAKE ONLINE SERIOUSLY, it can really be a handicap at times. I find online to be especially annoying in SSF4, you know how much people get away with things in that game online? lol
Setsuna Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 Just do what Daigo does "However, these days my mental state is about 10% serious when I’m attending tournaments. If I play too seriously, then I’m unable to read my opponent’s moves." Im still in the process of getting good enough to only have to be 10% when i play xD
ATGMantenbo Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 I strated off offline learning CT with my GG buddies for two months. At first my litchi used to get raped by my friends' Jin, carl and Nu ... things were going pretty good against Tao, ragna and tagar..... I started to wonder why I lose against Jin .... coz I spam DP against carl ... none of my BnBs work on him against Nu ... too predictable when charging in ........... and so on I got better after learning from my mistakes. my advice to you is stick to one character and learn from your mistakes ... this is how I got better
kaiser1one Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 Nice topic. I agree with you. I had this problem in CT. I would lose and lose and lose and it would be to the same character to make it worse. Eventually I'd be stark raving mad and either 2 things would happen, my rage would manifest itself into some strange new ability to win or the usual result, loss of skill. The latter more than the former. Mostly I blamed CS for how the game worked differently to other games I'd played, then the characters, of which some needed obvious changing before being shipped out the door, then I blamed my luck for not running into certain characters thus having no real way to know how to deal with things.
Keo-bas Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 I have an experience I'll like to share but not sure if this thread is appropriate. I feel it relates because it stems from my losing streak. But the actual content of the experience is different.

But the actual content of the experience is different. Shoot, we're your pals from the internet. As for loosing streak I had a bad experience over past 10 months because of my roommate. It was a guy who would rub every loose in my face. Whenever I'd get hit with a stronger combo or loose a match I'd always hear stuff like "owwwwww" or "it appears you're losing" etc. One day I nearly slammed sixaxis in his face after a very long streak of looses and comments, but I stilled my hand before anything and just shouted at him. people around can be more annoying than loosing in intself.
Sh0ryu_Repp4 Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 Thank you very much for this post, as a beginner i lose ALOT. and it can get very frustrating and you can develop a defeatist attitude. it's best to stay positive. recognize/fix your mistakes, and not /RAGE. of course those are easier said than done and it takes alot of patience and practice. i still have MUCH to learn
