yeah, i'm still very much opposed to the idea due to past experiences, sorry.

What about a sub forum for "Misc. Games" for people who want to take a break from fisticuffs and hang out with other forum members playing other games?

Posted

that kind of thing doesn't really necessitate a forum by itself. you can do the same exact thing over at the chat anyways.

Can't the same thing be said about most other subforums?

Not everyone uses the chat. I don't. Having a "Misc. Game" thread is a compromise to having a "General Discussion" shit-storm thread since it'll have an actual purpose. People can take a break to talk about some new JRPG or find people to play some other arcade game online.

i'll think about it, but i'm still leaning towards no atm. honestly if you want to talk about "random game" i don't see how discussing it on dustloop would be better than other social media outlets. is it just for convenience?

Well, a lot of the community plays airdashers/anime fighting games, etc. The same people tend to branch out towards visually similar things. JRPGs, visual novels, things like that. A lot of people here are also friends with one another for being around so long and want to play something with this particular group of people, or talk about anime with them or whatever. I've seen lots of posts tend to go off-topic in that direction. It's innocent enough, but it can get a bit cluttered with off-topic posts. By keeping it themed around something such as "Misc. Games", or "Misc. Japanese Things", or something along those lines, we can have an off-topic thread that isn't TOOOOO off-topic. I mean, Dustloop is about the ANIME fighting games nowadays (not just GG), why not have a quasi-off topic thread about other miscellaneous anime things?

IE:

Me: "Anyone watch Death Parade?"

You: "Nope, what's it about?"

Me: "It's a slice of life comedy, you should check it out"

You: "Sounds baller. Wanna play GG?"

and so on

We can flesh it out in PMs if you're still on the fence about it.

this is exactly what i didn't want happening. first it's other games, now it's an anime section, what's next? a tv shows section? a general hobbies section?

it's just bringing back an offtopic section piecemeal

Was just an example of "one or the other but not both", just keep it simple and prevent shitposting. I'd say "Other Anime Content" would be the best, so people can talk about other Japanese games, from JRPGs to what's new at the arcades there or anime/visual novels under one, consolidated forum. In hindsight, i realized that people can already post their PSN and XBLA tags and msg one another privately for other games like MMOs and whatever. Tangential content that's still related to the interests of the community.

If it's not about fighting games I don't want it to be here. It just means more shit for to mess with that didn't even need to be here in the first place.

What about custom background on profiles? It's rather easy to implement (literally an option, Profile Customization, to enable on IPB).

I think it's pretty nice having an unique background on user profiles.

Would a lore wiki be good alongside the current gameplay one?

I was thinking that it could really help as it could serve as a database for the Zepp Museum information. If the objective information found is stored in a wiki then it can be easier to find. It wouldn't need as much updating when compared to the gameplay wiki since the history of a character doesn't change like combo routes, damage, etc.
Like the Dustloop Wiki, perhaps clicking on different icons at the beginning would take you to different sections? So there could be both a BlazBlue half to the wiki, and a Guilty Gear half. If there's enough want, then additional wiki sections could be added for series like Battle Fantasia, Vampire Saviour, etc.?

It could still be under the Dustloop Wiki? Or it could be under a new wiki that links between the Dustloop one and Dustloop itself?

I really don't want to upkeep the wiki for unnecessary information. There are already blog and other wikis dedicated to lore but the DLoop wiki stands out for having all the nitty gritty technical details avavailable in English. You could, however, make a subsite called Zepp Museum dedicated to lore/art/etc. Maintain a wiki or blog for it with information such as OST releases, related video game concert schedules, etc.

While Dustloop does stand out for having all the fighting details, it's also one of the first places to get lore information that has been translated. You'd be surprised how much detail has been put in the Zepp Museum that has never seen the light of day outside of it, despite the fact that it could be useful to the different wikia's and blogs.

It could just be a separate wiki that links back and forth between the Dustloop Wiki? I think that would make things easier in terms of differentiating between the gameplay and lore, and it wouldn't mean that the current wiki would have to be maintained by those who developed it for gameplay to begin with.
Sure there are other places that already store lore, but there other places which store gameplay, too (albeit very few and far between).

Simply put, a location that stores objective information for the main games discussed in the Zepp Museum. The information is mainly lore, but it can also contain information such as books, games, etc.

Another Wikia, or a section within each game's Wikia for story would cenrtainly be useful.

what's wrong with wikia? that wiki seems to be active enough for lore-related stuff.

More silly tag things that make no sense. This is how the post looks like:

http://www.dustloop.com/forums/index.php/topic/10056-xrd-news-gameplay-discussion-2-console-is-out/page-67#entry916427

And this is what I get when I try to quote it:
"KULA DIAMOND CONFIRMED FOR XRD"
"That's just another costume for Johnny, obviously."
are also retweeted.
you really think it's a sock puppet holding character that is secretly kula diamond who is secretly angelia avallone who is secretly johnny in an alt costume?
Not only does it get random tags that most probably weren't added by the original poster (at least that was the case when I asked people directly about other similar issues), but it actually breaks them, missing Size opening tags. Because of that, if I were to try and post it as it is, it won't look the same as the original post. Note that I write my posts with the switch in the upper left corner of the interface turned off, so it doesn't automatically format my text before I post it.

this is likely them copying text from another website and the copy function includes the tags too. when i look at his post, it does indeed contain a bunch of tags.

Can someone explain to me how to read entire posts on someone's Profile Feed?

I get texted responses from people but after so many letters it gets cut off and I don't know how to view the whole post.

Now that there have been loketests and confirmation on a lot of information, think we can get a Johnny and Jack-O' board up and running? I've got all the information and video on Johnny that's come out, would like to post it on the character discussion board.

This appears to be a bug in teh software we use. I took a quick look, and I think i can increase the number of characters shown, but there will always be a cutoff at some point and there is no way to see the whole post in that scenario... pretty dumb. I'll keep looking, but just be warned that there may be no solution to this.

i don't see a reason to rush and create character forums when a simple thread would suffice.

I realize that pics can't exceed 200 kb, but is there a way to have a sort of preview function as to where you can crop it down to size?  The current settings allow you to crop, but only if the pic is already at 200 kb.  Just curious.....

Maybe it's too early to think about this, but Im suggesting a system similar to smashboards to reward players for placing well in legitimate tourny's.

It looks like this

http://smashboards.com/threads/civil-war-vi-evo-seeding-points-500-melee-pot-bonus-results-richmond-va.352463/

I know the way it works is that the person who created the Tournament Thread goes in and posts the results and players "claim" their name. After mod approval their account gets added next to the results and those points are awarded to players. Of course This is probably something difficult to do with our small scene but I know for a fact it's given many players incentive to post about upcoming tournaments and even go out to some.

Just a thought for the future :)
