TheGreatReptar Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 All I can say is, have fun with that.
Ginseng Posted November 22, 2010 Author Posted November 22, 2010 Meh, I think you guys sleep on Tsubaki a bit too much. Even atm. Doesn't really matter much anymore since the patch is coming, but I firmly believe she can win a tourney in the US. Hey man, don't think I didn't hear about you using Litchi in that one Drom's tourney :D
STenSatsu Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Haha, like I told Spirit, I played Litchi at the request of a friend cause he always gives me shit about switching from her to Tsubaki lol. I would have done just as well with Tsu anyway since Spirit and Coopa were the only real challenges there anyhow. I came pretty close to top 8 at the big NCI and wasn't even doing install shit or half the mixups I knew (I have a problem using training mode knowledge in tournies lol). Just haven't been able to hit another offline tourney lately. =(
Ginseng Posted November 22, 2010 Author Posted November 22, 2010 My course throughout NCI = scrub, troll match vs taoftw and getting negative penalty for attacking (lol), a litchi, and a bang. You should become the norcal Tsubaki, I don't play, and I'm lazy lol.
STenSatsu Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Definitely sticking with Tsubaki till I see Kokonoe or maybe Jubei playable. Just gotta make it to the tournies instead of getting sick or having work. Your first match was amazing though!
Airk Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 You know what makes me sad? I watch lots of videos for various US tournaments and there's ALWAYS at least one RACHEL, who is, by all objective accounts, worse than Tsubaki, but there's very rarely ever a Tsubaki. It's like we have no pride.
Kiba Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 I will continue to rep you guys in tournaments here in the UK

Shaffler Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Yeah well, Rachel, despite the shit damage, can still zone and has a lot of tricks up her sleeve...s. On the other hand, Tsubaki not only has shit damage but also 90% of her moves are pretty much...useless. We can't zone, we can't keep a good pressure, we have unsafe moves, we're playing a blind character, and did I mention we have shit damage? Nevertheless, can't blame 'em. It's a tournament. Good Chewy players won't be playing Chewy, they'd rather use someone they can actually win with.
TD Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 money is more important than reppping your character
Rhiya Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 money is more important than reppping your character Well, paying money to not win money sounds kind of silly, doesn't it? = /
TD Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 yes, my point. pay money, pick litchi. profit? well, that depends on how many others follow the same logic.
Grendy Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Well, paying money to not win money sounds kind of silly, doesn't it? = / I laughed a lil bit because so far this is what I've done for my tourneys. Part of it is probably cause tourneys are my only offline games I get but I really enjoy playing my matches with tsubaki. I'm still relatively new to the whole fighting game scene so I don't completely get what makes her so unappealling for competeitive play, I suppose it is just people wanting a better chance but if you main a character why would you switch to one that you are less familiar with? In the tournaments I've gone to my main problen has been our top 3 players (an Arakune, Ranga/Hakumen, and a Tager). I've been able to get past our other players even ones playing bang/litchi (which usually gets the crowd pretty excited). Anyway I'm not to sure where this story was going, just wanna say there's atleast 1 US Tsubaki.

Anyway I'm not to sure where this story was going, just wanna say there's atleast 1 US Tsubaki. I can sort of understand it, but, I mean, it can just be so frustrating. Learning Ragna's double belial combo made me rage, so hard. "He gets 4k off something this fucking easy to set up?" That's exactly what I was was thinking. Sure, Ragna has his problems. But playing Ragna is disgustingly easier than playing Tsubaki. Take the Tager matchup. 5cccccccccccccc "oh, it hit" HELL'S FANG 5cccccccccccccc "oh, it hit" HELL'S FANG 5cccccccccccccc "oh, it hit" HELL'S RAPID Double Belial combo, lather, rinse, repeat. as opposed to Charge, backdash, charge, backdash, charge, backdash, charge, backd -- oh look, negative warning, SPARK BOLT, fuck, I'm magnetized, block, block, block, block, max range 22D, max range 5B, block, block, block, etc. I mean, it makes you realize how much you're punishing yourself just by choosing Tsubaki at the character select screen. I know Tsubaki better than the other characters, yeah. But that only does so much some days. You need to know Tsubaki on such a ridiculously higher level just to get results similar to what you would playing anyone else that isn't AWFUL TIER. Edited November 24, 2010 by Dusk Thanatos
TD Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 its not worth killing yourself over. just play as you can. you keep playing tsubaki and you gain irl insight.
Airk Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 Charge, backdash, charge, backdash, charge, backdash, charge, backd -- oh look, negative warning, SPARK BOLT, fuck, I'm magnetized, block, block, block, block, max range 22D, max range 5B, block, block, block, etc. Because, you know, Ragna never has to block spark bolt or anything. C'mon now. Let's be fair. You can be bitter, but be fair. So go play Ragna. I don't really care, but you know, this isn't helpful either. As for "Doesn't make sense to pay money to not win money"? I dunno about the rest of you, but any tournament I enter, I'm not going to count on winning no matter who I play. So I might as well play someone fun and enjoy myself. I pay money to go to movies. I pay money to do all kinds of stuff that involve ZERO potential payout. Paying money to have a good time in a tournament doesn't exactly break the trend there. Fine, I'm not getting on a plane for hundreds of dollars and more for a hotel so I can lose in a fighting game, but that's a whole different animal. I wouldn't go to that tournament no matter who I was maining. As for Tsubaki being definitively worse than Rachel, well, every matchup chart this site has ever produced disagrees with that assessment. So do I. So, apparently, does Arc Sys if the stuff they're changing about the two of them is any indication. I suck horribly at Rachel, but whenever I watch a match with her, I see her players doing some incredible crazy stuff, and then I look over at the damage and it's like, "Oh. Tsubaki gets that off a one charge bread and butter, and it took that Rachel player mad skills and 50 heat." Sorry, but no way is Tsubaki worse than Rachel. :P Rachel is at least as gimmicky, her damage is much worse, and her "zoning" is pretty darn weak.
-Seo Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 I will continue to rep you guys in tournaments here in the UK We have tournaments here? D:
TD Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 rachel is definitely worse. l was (allegedly) one of the best online rachels on psn, so l know her in and out. and its a shame how l can actually play competitive tsu and win, but all my efforts with rachel is for naught. tsubaki is really bad; rachel is unplayable.
Rhiya Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 Because, you know, Ragna never has to block spark bolt or anything. C'mon now. Let's be fair. You can be bitter, but be fair. Rags isn't absolutely screwed by magnetism like Tsubaki is, though. Tsubaki has to block and take it. Rags has options to deal with magnetism pressure that Tsubaki can only dream of. Yes, I was exaggerating the matchup. It's not like Ragna never gets hit by Spark Bolts, 360s, or 720s. Hell, he has less life than Tsubaki, so that 360 is even worse for him than it is for us. But the matchup does feel that much easier, even with my admittedly bad Ragna. So go play Ragna. I don't really care, but you know, this isn't helpful either. I've considered it. It feels like cheating when I do. >_> Maybe I'm too masochistic to switch, or something. As for "Doesn't make sense to pay money to not win money"? I dunno about the rest of you, but any tournament I enter, I'm not going to count on winning no matter who I play. So I might as well play someone fun and enjoy myself. I pay money to go to movies. Fine, I'm not getting on a plane for hundreds of dollars and more for a hotel so I can lose in a fighting game, but that's a whole different animal. I wouldn't go to that tournament no matter who I was maining. But that's the type of tournament I'm talking about. I'll never play in one either, I expect. Now, I can understand paying $10 or $15 for some competitive matches at some local scene. But, even then, you'll get less bang for your buck, since you're likely to lose earlier than if you played a higher tier character, and you'll therefore get less matches. This, of course, discounts potential casuals, so take it however you want it. Really, this is just all low-tier rage from a low tier of player. I'm not good. But there are days when I feel like I went in, and lost a match to someone who was objectively worse than me just because of who I play. That's rage-inducing by itself. Hopefully, we get some sanity from the balance patch.
Ginseng Posted November 25, 2010 Author Posted November 25, 2010 Well, if it makes you guys feel any better, I lose to plenty of people who I feel are worse than me in terms of skill level. But I win with my Jin and other characters rather convincingly. Lol. I also like how a lot of times, IB doesn't really reward Tsubaki and you can't punish bad habits nearly as well as a lot of the cast. :D That being said, I think it's obvious that Tsubaki isn't as good as we all want her to be, and really, we should leave it at that. We don't really need to complain and have an uncomfortable atmosphere for all the people who are trying to have fun with her. If people want to have fun, go for it. I just don't do it anymore considering 1) I don't play nearly as much as I did before NCI, and 2) I've been playing her competitively since December last year, and I'm pretty sick of losing in random and scrubby ways. I mean if I get hit or fail a punish (due to hitboxes, etc) for doing the CORRECT thing for who knows how many times, I'm going to eventually crack :/
Ginseng Posted November 25, 2010 Author Posted November 25, 2010 I'm not sure what that means, but sure why not. But hey, maybe I'm just an awful player that just can't compete with norcal now. Then again, majority of the original norcal BBers pretty much quit or don't play haha.
TD Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 it means youre naturally cool with any and everything but yea we can all learn a lesson here. when the going gets tough the tough better find a way to make going better. and that 'better', is litchi.
Kiba Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 We have tournaments here? D: Lol. Of course. If you want an insight let me know. I'll be sure to get you involved.
