TaoFTW Posted September 4, 2010 Author Posted September 4, 2010 i've never played chaos breakers before in my life, nor do i own the game... i just find the game to be interesting looking. I'll help run it if needed tho. Nothing is set in stone. Before I go for my break from TO, I want to make sure NCI is heading in the right direction. So I need people's feedback from the long-winded post I made earlier. http://www.dustloop.com/forums/showthread.php?9505-NorCal-INSTALL!-v.2-August-28th-(We-HitConfirm-Everything!)&p=743058&viewfull=1#post743058
Chun Posted September 4, 2010 Posted September 4, 2010 Short Feedback: Let Scott and Sean do their thing, they're more than capable of doing so.
TaoFTW Posted September 4, 2010 Author Posted September 4, 2010 Short Feedback: Let Scott and Sean do their thing, they're more than capable of doing so. That feedback is retarded. Not taking initiative so somebody else can take it is the reason why NorCal is in the predicament it's in now. Not taking responsibility is alright when you pass it on to somebody else. But when it's demanded of you, you don't like it. You want to see another hype NorCal INSTALL, do something about it. Here's the crux; I'll tell you how to do it!
Chun Posted September 4, 2010 Posted September 4, 2010 Everyone appreciates what you did for NCI, that's not the point being contested here, everyone including myself things you did a great job with it and were glad to have you do so well with it. Been biting my lip for a couple of days now, but your tone of voice to everyone in Northern California after NCI; it's extremely condescending, disrespectful, and rude to the current community and the thoughts of the people currently working on the next. You're on the complete delusion that no one in this region knows how to manage a tournament, and continually spout about how Norcal is lazy, flunkie, and overall incapable of doing simple tasks on both youtube and dustloop threads, which is weakening the image you created. We go way back since CT Tao, but you're really being overbearing, and not for the greater good. Have faith in the NCI hype you helped generate before and leave the work in the next person's hands. Get the feedback from the previous for the next. Don't pull a Jay Leno on the scene after your own decision to take a break.
Spirit Juice Posted September 4, 2010 Posted September 4, 2010 That feedback is retarded. Pretty much this. Need more feedback than just "let Scott and Sean do their thing". We need more details than that if we're going to make NCI work. Been biting my lip for a couple of days now, but I'm getting really tired of your tone of voice to everyone in Northern California; it's extremely condescending, disrespectful, and rude to the current community and the thoughts of the people currently working on the next. Nah, John has a really good point. Sometimes you just gotta give DAT REAL TALK or people won't listen. Even when you do and people get upset, usually nothing comes from it because people complain and then continue to do nothing, thus proving the point. NorCal has always had this problem. The GG scene has always had this problem and ultimately died because of it. BB scene is too new to go through something like that but will probably go through the same motions anyways. NorCal scene is too much talking, not enough doing. I'm willing to go the extra mile and make sure the NorCal GG/BB/MB scene grows when John leaves, but I can't help a scene not willing to help itself. I tried getting the GG scene growing in NorCal years ago, but that ended horribly. By the time the game grew in NorCal, it was already dead in the US and I had moved on. That's just an example, but you should get the point. People need to talk and communicate, rather than just leave it in the hands of one or two people and then go about their business.
STenSatsu Posted September 4, 2010 Posted September 4, 2010 I feel a monthly ranbat is better than splitting the region up a bit. As long as we can find a venue for ~40-60 people anyway. It would be more hype than small local things and the bay isn't really that big that it needs to be split up especially with BART and Caltrain. (Not that people running small local things is bad.) I do like the idea of tutorials on the basics on stream. Since there usually won't be Money matches or 5v5 kind of stuff, you can just replace some casual matches with it and I think it could be a decent draw for viewers interested in gettign better. So ya, putting my vote in for monthly ranbats that include bb/gg/mb and a yearly or bi-yearly big NCR-like tourney for those 3 games. I like this because it might also build interest for people playing one game to get into another. (I know, my hope is probably misplaced.) I also somewhat agree with Chun in that you seem extremely negative sometimes Tao, though perhaps you're justified from something in the past that I don't know about. Lord knows how much you've done for the Norcal scene but sometimes I feel that your seeming absolute lack of faith in anyone in Norcal is too much.
Crosell Posted September 4, 2010 Posted September 4, 2010 He is burnt out from a TO, and starting a scene and keeping it going is probably pretty tiresome.
Coopa Posted September 4, 2010 Posted September 4, 2010 As I am writing an essay right now, I am unable to write a full summary of what I wish to say. Let me just condense it this to what is needed, and I'll be on my way. I believe both Chun and TaoFTW have a point in this argument--that there needs to be a level of heightened public relations, merely just for the image, as well as a go-and-do-it attitude. What merely bothers me is the use of diction, as it can be said differently to the same effect. The last Norcal Install was a great success from a collaboration of efforts, recognized or not. I just feel that egos and NCI's image should not take the brunt of this advice when it is both Spirit Juice and I who need to hear it most. So, I'm down for Tao's advice. It's good, he makes a point. Just direct it more towards select individuals that can profit off of it. That said, I recommend this thread gets closed. The advice that was said was enough, and if Scott and I need anymore, we already have Tao's contact info. I've already contacted some people to help out with the media arrangements for NCI. Haunts is going to check with John Choi to see about the date of Norcal Regionals as well as if BBCS can be put into it. Scott is looking into venues and he and I talk at least once every day. I believe a new thread for NCI should be made once a venue has been confirmed, then we can get back together on community ideas and such. Now, back to my essay, which is late.
TaoFTW Posted September 4, 2010 Author Posted September 4, 2010 I'm getting really tired of your tone of voice to everyone in Northern California; it's extremely condescending to the community and the thoughts of the people currently working on the next. You're on the complete delusion that no one in this region knows how to manage a tournament, and continually spout about how Norcal is lazy, flunkie, and overall incapable of doing simple tasks. We go way back since CT Tao, but you're really being overbearing, and not for the greater good. And that's not just from me. If you think that I'm condescending people in the community; if you thought that NCI was a terrible tournament; if you can tell me that you've seen somebody other than Scott n' Jeff start a tournament; if you can tell me that I'm disillusioned to the reality that nobody cares enough to start their own gig; then you have every right to call me overbearing and disillusioned. I'm only telling people the truth - even if it hurts. I don't mean to be rude, but I'm done playing the nice guy routine and standing my ground. I've been running NCI GG/MB tournaments every month for the past year which, oblivious to most BB brethren, has helped me gain the experience to run the minor tournament. I busted my ass off to find venues, talked to hotel management, communicated with SoCal n' MB, IRC, talked with Max (Zenmetsu) on how to organize an event, and was the -only- person to communicate with Haunts and Koogy on a daily basis. You don't like the IPW stream, then tell Haunts how to make it better! You didn't like my free raffle prizes giveaway, I'm sorry you didn't get it. Are people frustrated with me being a douchebag cause I'm always nagging people to get their ass in gear; deal with it and try doing something of your own caliber. If you do, then I'll be happy to listen. I'm sorry that I'm a nice guy and try to do things right even though I'm right. Am I right? I found it amusing that I only wanted to give you constructive feedback, but you lash back at me cause I told the truth. We go back since CT and you should know -more than anyone else- that I'm the least condescending person you ever met. I'm giving you sound advise whenever necessary and even taught you how to do a three-man round robin. By the way, thank you for calling me while I was asleep. It's posts like this, and everything else that culminated from an entire year of hard work, that makes me not want to organize another tournament. If you guys really care for the scene to revive from the bottom-up, then I'm giving you the tools to make it happen. If you don't like it, then leave it and do something else. I know NorCal doesn't communicate, so I'm empowering select individuals to help take over the hype train before it dies. I gave you all connections to IPW, Brokentier, TheBBVlog, Tauntloop, MeltyBread and EUdemonia. It's up to you to make the best of it, but if nobody steps up to the plate, then nothing will happen. People won't organize events and the BB hype train will die in a blaze of fire. I have -yet- to meet people who do not appreciate the way I handle things. I would like you to introduce those people to me so I can find out how to make events more hype. As for the greater good, I would think that my sacrifice to you guys -at the cost of my precious time- would mean that I shouldn't invest anything into this community. Am I right? The point is, 'If you have a problem with me, then tell me. If you want something done, then be a problem solver and not a bench warmer. You don't know how to organize an event, I'll tell you how to do it and make it hype!' To deny the very roots of our being is to deny our entire existence. If you think that I should die in the fire, then tell me what I do wrong. TELL ME! I have two ears and a mouth. Hell, everyone in NorCal has an ear to listen and a mouth to shttalk. Let's use it. Oh yeah, the 5v5 BBCS NorCal vs. SoCal was terribly organized for good reason. If a player is missing, then don't spend an hour trying to figure out who gets the qualifier. This is why I can't trust anyone in NorCal with a big event. Whenever something goes wrong, people panic and can't solve problems. They just put the responsibility on other people and expect them to be the savior of the day. This is why there's nobody here (except for Jake 'KatanaDash', Kijiyama [you are awesome man thanks for the help - I didn't give you a special shout out], Spirit Juice, Ginseng, Tsubasa, Fred 'PhaethonH' and -surprisingly- WhiteBoyWilly [i'll entrust you with more things in the near future]). You want me to stop looking down on people? PROVE IT! Show me that you can man it up n' run a legit tournament. Show me that you're not all baby talk, like Blanka707, and do something productive. Sorry for the long winded post, but this is my rant I've been holding in for the whole year. Edit: Coopa is right. You NEVER put an ego in a tournament. Things go downhill -fast- if you do.
natearistata Posted September 4, 2010 Posted September 4, 2010 Since I've only been to one tournament ever, there's no way in hell I could run one, but just tossing it out there that I'm perfectly willing to help anyone else out in any way possible. At the very least, I'm very good at heavy lifting! =D
Crosell Posted September 4, 2010 Posted September 4, 2010 Since I've only been to one tournament ever, there's no way in hell I could run one, but just tossing it out there that I'm perfectly willing to help anyone else out in any way possible. At the very least, I'm very good at heavy lifting! =D And duct taping! Haha I'm with Nate, NCI was my first tourney but I still helped as I brought things for mike z. I'd also be willing to help out as much as my school allows me.
Spirit Juice Posted September 4, 2010 Posted September 4, 2010 Running a tournament isn't that hard in terms of making a bracket and running it (I taught Aginor how to do it one day, although running a 64-man bracket was a bit stressful for both of us since neither of us had run one of that size). Finding a venue, using DEM SOCIAL SKILLS (which most of the community lacks) to talk with potential venue owners, etc, is the hardest part. Communication is key, and that's where NorCal falters. Anyways, my vision for NCI is pretty much keep the local ranbats (GG, BB, MB) at the bay area and make them once a month providing we can find a venue. Unfortunately, I cannot find a venue for those unless it's one in Sacramento (doubt bay area would come to those anyways); in that regard, the bay area crew is responsible for finding a reliable venue to hold monthly ranbats. If I lived there, I would look for one, but it's out of my grasp for the time being. As far as the real NCI (like the one we just had), I think a semi-annual tournament will probably be best. Years ago, we had CUT (California Unification Tournament), which ended up being a big success. Unfortunately, plans for a second one kind of fell through. I think we were shooting for a semi-annual thing there as well, but it never happened. CUT2 didn't happen until last year. If we make NCI a semi-annual thing, then the next one would be around February. We have a lot of time to set things up, but feedback is appreciated.
natearistata Posted September 4, 2010 Posted September 4, 2010 Let's keep it all Sacramento from now on. /selfish What kind of places would you look out for for venues? LAN centers, card shops, that kind of thing? Obviously a hotel ballroom or something similar would be overpriced for a monthly deal, but I could start looking out for places. Although if the majority of people interested are in the bay area, finding somewhere near me wouldn't be a great idea anyway.
STenSatsu Posted September 4, 2010 Posted September 4, 2010 Generally lan centers/card shops/class or club rooms at schools. I don't know if it got restated in this thread somewhere but Tao put up some good reccomendations. Was something like: Can hold 50-60 people semi-comfortably. Easy access to internet for streaming. Preferably central location, especially good if reachable by BART or other Public Trans. All I can remember. EDIT: I'll check out phoenix games and shadowbrooke to see what is up. I'd also say DVC but I'm pretty sure the rec room doesn't stay open past 7pm though I haven't checked on rooms.
Dacidbro Posted September 4, 2010 Posted September 4, 2010 Okay.. so this argument is over John not sugarcoating his wording. It's just semantics. There are some more serious issues at the core of it, but that's what it was primarily about. Admittedly, I was concerned with how down you were talking about people too, John. The "My way or the highway" mentality is -PERFECT- just before and during a tournament. After a tournament, however, I am concerned with how often I saw "if you don't like it tough". I can certainly understand where Chun was coming from. This isn't a shot at you, at all. This is just trying to provide a mediatorial aspect to this conversation; you do come off extremely strong. I can completely understand why though. The strong, my way goes mentality is the only way you can have a successful tournament, and you want that for Norcal. I just think you've also thrown a couple people under the bus in the process, and maybe that wasn't necessary. However, Chun, if it was anyone's fault you didn't make the team during the last minute decision NCI, it was mine. I voted strongly (and suggested to everyone else) for 2 GB combo because he is a stronger player, and has become one of the top norcal players despite a very, very bad character. You still have work to do, but you already know that. I would gladly work with you on areas you can improve if you want to be part of the next team of 5 or whatever it is; you even have the ability to be the strongest California Litchi, but you have steep competition as well. You have to be really damn good. So be ready for there to be times when you fall short, okay? Don't take anything about this 5v5 personally, or you've missed the point. And a message to everyone; lets take things back a step. Drama attacks every community, don't forget who we're standing beside. We're the Blazblue scene, if we can't maintain this community as the amazing, friendly, uplifting, fun, fucking awesome community that I joined back at CUT2, we lose everything. We become just another street fighter community. And that's horrible. Solve your disputes, -kindly-. Gently. Hell, if you have a problem with someone, tell me, and I'll tell you why it was probably a lot more shades of grey than you might think. <3 u guys, srs
ZONG_one Posted September 4, 2010 Posted September 4, 2010 Hey Hey HEYYYY TaoFTW, no one said they didn't like your raffle giveaways. Let's not take this too far.
Crosell Posted September 4, 2010 Posted September 4, 2010 I wanted that last exile wall scroll, it was awesome!
TaoFTW Posted September 4, 2010 Author Posted September 4, 2010 -snip- All things, said and done, were done while I was under the influence of rage. I apologize to everyone for my -lack- of happy words, and sound judgment, but I only hope that my rage post will help to re-unite our community to one big happy family. I just never thought I'd live to see the day that it would create some drama-llama. So how about we just forgive each other and move on? :] Hey Hey HEYYYY TaoFTW, no one said they didn't like your raffle giveaways. Let's not take this too far. Ginseng hated it; he threw away Mion like she nothing but stuffed toys. I wanted that last exile wall scroll, it was awesome! Speaking of stuff, I still have your cables in my car. O3o
blk_mage Posted September 4, 2010 Posted September 4, 2010 I'm willing to help keep the scene alive and hype in any way that I can!

You're a real secret weapon in tournaments, you get shit done right. We definitely need someone like you, at least on call, for our big tournaments. And everyone rages sometimes (except me :c I want in on the rage tooo guys) so don't worry about it.
natearistata Posted September 4, 2010 Posted September 4, 2010 Go learn pad, so you can feel like breaking it in half. God I want to break this fucking stick in half right now. Raaaaaaaaaaaage.

I believe in more people, with more time to plan, in a bigger venue, with more hype. If the next set of NCI's come monthly, the variety of people showing up will be shortened, as Tao mentioned before. We can make this happen, I know it. And a message to everyone; lets take things back a step. Drama attacks every community, don't forget who we're standing beside. We won't let down the next NCI. Everyone has a role, get at me on the next venue date and info, I'll get on that hype promo video right-quick >:3
