SIne, I disagree. Millia is one of my worst matchups. I-no is bad against Faust. I just happened to out play him on that given day. I was pretty surprised honestly. He beat me the following week though.

Hey Elvenshadow!

My name is Probe (From Guilty Gear Team poland) and I will be visiting Tokyo in september.

I'd like to go to the SBO event. I've heard that there are some tickets I could buy to get to the Tougeki 2010.

I've also heard, that the Tokyo Game show will be held at the same time as SBO and there will be one type of tickets to get to both events. Is it true?

Can you tell me where will the tournament be?

Is there still any chance to play for the wild card qualifiers spots during the SBO?

Sorry for asking so many questions, but you're the most suited person to know those kind of things :P

I'm really looking forward for your answers and I hope some other forum users will be inerested in those things as well.

Yo. As far as I know you can buy the SBO and TGS tickets as a set. You can buy them once you get to Japan from any Lawson or Family Mart convenient store from their ticket machines. Not sure when they go on sale or how much the price is, I havnt really looked into it, but usually TGS is only 1000 yen and Tougeki depends on how many days you attend. Not sure about their pricing this year yet. TGS is held at Makuhari Messe which is a big convention center in Chiba, so SBO will be held there this year as well. There is a last chance qualfier spot as far as I know, so you will be able to try for a spot, but they might have a random drawing for which teams get a chance to enter since too many may try to qualify. I dont mind answering questions. Its all good. Hopefully by the time you get here I will be back to 100% drinking condition so we can knock a few back.

As far as matchups go, Elvenshadow is right. Millia > Faust while Faust > I-no in comparison, mainly due to Millia being more mobile than I-no (has a ground dash, 2 air dashes, moves that move her quickly across the screen) and a more solid way to get in. I-no's note and HCL are great for setting up lockdown/knockdowns but Faust is great at dodging both. The same can be said for Millia's hairpin at times, but adding that to her mobility, she gets more chances to get in for free and mixup.

Defense wise, I'd pick I-no over Millia. Better/longer backdash invul, one move that is semi-reversalable (wakeup VCL), better wakeup supers).

Now, cos it's Koichi...maybe he SHOULD have picked I-no just cos his I-no is so good...maybe not. If you're going by numbers though, Millia is the right choice.

Maybe it's just me reading too much into it, but it feels like you're getting more and more frustrated as you get closer to the last quals, and that feeling really culminated in the last blog. You have a lot of things to frustrate you, not all gaming related(like the ulcer), but I wouldn't let anything get you down if I were you. This year you've had a self renaissance in the JP GG community. You've gotten closer to qualifying than ever before(not over yet!), and you've garnered a lot of positive PR from all of your high profile tournament play. Even if you don't manage to make it this year, just keep on trucking, and keep making friends. People seeing you angry and frustrated isn't going to make them want to team with you :/

Any way, I was just getting a bummer vibe from the last blog(and bits of the last couple), so I thought I'd throw in my 2c about shit. There's a lot of people rooting for you stateside, and probably more than you think in JP.

Completely unrelated, to Rod: How come you only talk to me in wild, coked-out crazy IM sessions?

Hinta, come in IRC and we can talk anytime. Or whenever I pop on aim. Also, I totally agree with the ^

Let others (R-1 lol) rage, keep your cool, play your best and show them what CHICAGO SPORTSMANSHIP is all about. :)

Matt, yea I get what you are saying. I havnt really been getting pissed off or raging IRL at the arcade or anything, but I guess at this point it is starting to look a little hopeless with only 2 weeks left. Still, I will see it to the end. I think the biggest thing thats getting to me is the ulcer honestly. Having it in the first place stresses me out, and when I feel stressed out I like to drink, and when I cant drink it makes it worse, so its just a big ongoing cycle until this damn thing goes away. Thats why im gonna take like the next month off of drinking. Anyway, I appreciate everyone's support.

The last blog post, I just didnt have time and wanted to get it out of the way and didnt feel like typing it all in great detail. Next week I should have way more time.

I did remember something sorta interesting that I left out, so I just added it in

"Also, there was a default color Axl player there who I beat 10 times in a row and didnt lose to. I just got up and left eventually when it was time to go. I later found out this this Axl player was Domi. He would team with Limekey tomorrow so I guess he was just playing Axl since they use the same character. I dont know whether or not he plans to main Axl from now or something but his Anji is still WAY better, IMO."

Hello Mike, long time no see. Hope you're health is okay & that your spirit is still strong!

Just dropping in to give you some props, it's a really nice thing you are doing updating the blog and spending all that time taking notes for the blog and writing about all your Guilty Gear-adventures. I think your blog has turned into a source of inspiration to alot of players here outside of Japan.

Qualifying to Tougeki in Japan is a bitch, mad respect to you for all your achievements this year. Can't say I have followed your blog all that much, but I as much as you've been doing much better this year and previous years. I still remember those feelings one had when one got far in qualifiers, and taking the 赤切符 is pretty impressive feat itself. But for got or worse, there is always the pressure and the dream to get the blue one, and the red one just simply isn't blue. I should've learned better form our talks in Japan about putting pressure on oneself, since that was one of the reasons behind me choking here in Europes biggest tournament & sbo-quals. But a loss is a loss One has to simply learn from one's mistake and get stronger. And I can see that you have grown stronger so, keep it up and so will I ;)

Do, help out and write as much as you have energy & time for. Like you said, there is still two weeks left. Enjoy those two weeks, and do your best! Fact remains that you are big contributor to the scene.

Oh, and with this post I don't mean to give off the impression that I think you have gone emo or something :keke: Just some props from a guy that has an idea about how life qualifying for GG-SBO in Japan is like. Rock on!

Alpha station is inbetween the Okubo stations(shin okubo and regular okubo) if memory serves. It might be more towards current, but I'm not sure. If you walk that street though you should find it.

The place I always play at is called Mikado. It is in Takadanobaba, which is only one stop away from Shin Okubo on the Yamanote line. Its located in the ally that runs along next to the station. When you exit from the Waseda exit, just go left and then when you get to the first ally which is right by a pachinko place, turn left down the ally. Keep walking till you see the Lawson. Mikado is right next to / above the Lawson. Thats the best place to play for casuals.

The tournaments this weekend are at Mikado on Saturday and Alpha station in Okubo on Sunday. Alpha station is not usually a good place to play GG for casuals but the tournament will be big. To get there, just exit Shin Okubo station and go left. Keep going straight and eventually you will see Alpha Station on the right side of the street.

Who are you btw? Are you a foreigner living in Japan or just visiting or something?

Shinjn, thanks for the props man. Are you coming to Japan to chill again this summer? Sucks you couldnt win the European qual. Would be cool to go drinking if you can make it.

Matt, yes its between Shin Okubo and Okubo station. My directions should suffice.

I'm just visiting(studying) ;> will be there till october..

wow your work is near my school =) thank you for information ^^ i will try to go there this weekend.

I was at alpha station at shin-okubo...played for awaile...there is only 1 set of arcade GG...the tourney will be long %)

what about the rules? you have to make team by yourself...or it will be randomly picket by administrators?

Btw. I will be staying in Otsuka and what I can see on the map - Takanobaba and Shin-okubo are really close to the place, that I'll be staying in, so it's nice to have some good arcades for GG freeplays nearby :D

It's been a few months since I last read your blog, just finished catching up on it. It's really cool that you're getting respect from Japanese players (Patchi saying you're one of 6 foreign players on the Japanese level, Everyone giving you props during/after your match against Mugen's team in the B2 block finals, etc)

It sucks that Guilty Gear only got 16 spots this time, it makes it that much harder to get in, but you're stepping up your game, playing better than ever.

It's not over yet, you can still make it in. America is rooting for you!

Just checked this week's GGXX qualifiers results and props to you for placing 2nd in the Takadanobaba Mikado qualifier!

I also uploaded a bunch of pictures (most of them are from the kickboxing match 2 weeks ago)

Vyers, Axel, thanks! It was close... just a little further. I need to get better at beating Baiken.

Pro8e, sweet, good convenient location.

Nuts, were you at the Alpha Station qual? I saw some guy there who was trying to video tape a match and Satoshi told him to stop or something. I didnt recognize him. was that you?

Posted

:D sorry...it was me (I think satoshi told me to ask FIRST about video tape or smthing...becouse some players will not allow to video tape) T_T i didn't know that its not allowed to video tape ;< im very sorry for ppl i troubled...

Btw i saw you ) but i'm too shy to come and talk )) can we sometime battle? and i will video tape our battle. Where i live...there is many ppl who read your blog ^^ they will be happy to see our battle :) it's shae that i didn't see your team fighting...i thought tournament will start around at 19 00 or something...not that early at 12-13 ^^

Where will be the next tournament? i promise i will not bother anyone ;<

its all good dude. I dont think you really bothered anyone, satoshi was just doing his job. Most arcades dont really allow people to randomly record matches, otherwise I would have posted a shit ton of vids by now lol (well that and I dont really have anything good to record with, but if it was more readily allowed I probably would have bought a camera by now)

Anyway, yea next time just say hi. I had no idea who you were so I didnt go talk to you. I figured most people would easily be able to recognize me since theres lots of pictures of me online and im the only white guy there lol. Yea, the tournament started at 1, you didnt miss much, just JT beating us. Sucks you missed the Mikado one where we actually did very well... until running into Maruken in the finals.

Next weeks tournaments are

Saturday Twinstar in Iidabashi http://www.tougeki.com/shop?id=999

Sunday Shinjuku sportsland in Shinjuku http://www.tougeki.com/shop?id=1143

see you there. we can get casuals in, and yes you can tape it

Posted

didnt notice it, thanks for the heads up.

Yea... I did fairly well against Satou but I missed a few setups and stuff that I shouldnt have, but in the end I pulled through.

Against Maruken I was doing well for most of the first round. Shouldnt have gone for that sweep but I figured I could jump in time to block his counter but I failed to and thats when things started going bad. The 2nd round was just me choking big time. I cant believe I only threw one item the entire round and then I hit the wrong button at the very end heh... I noticed lots of missed opportunities from watching that vid. Oh well.
