I still adore GGXXAC, but ever since spring, the AZ GG scene has not been as "active" as it was months/year(s) before, which IS discouraging. However, a few people do host sometimes (mainly for BB, MB, etc IIRC), but not everyone is able to show up...It is just a bit strange/sad how it quickly went from being very alive/active, with GG RanBats, to somewhat inactive, with random small sessions (I know that a lot of players are playing BB, and real-life issues may interfere as well, but still...) :O However, IMO, it should never be up to one or a few people to preserve and/or revive a community; everyone who loves the game(s) should support it/them and try to help as much as they can...I wish I could do more, but meh...

GGXXAC is one of the greatest fighting games in existance (it rivals Marvel, IMO), and IMO it will be a bit hard for ASW to top/replace it. Perhaps every player is unhappy with something about the game (or characters), but no game is perfect and it may/will die if we allow it to do so...I would love to play GG competitively again, but right now, it is hard to find people to play with in this state (work-permitting), and the playing computer (MOM mode or 1P Vs. CPU/Gold teams?) or #R online are not good options, IMO...

This has been the case in the Midwest circa 2007? At least as far as the Missouri scene is concerned, anyway. Minus the ranbats.

this a hundred times this

every other fighting game i play is "Where the fuck is slayer", "why can't I just push any button and win", "where's my backdash cancel 1f jump", "i worked hard for my knockdown now where's my 5 way mixup", "who ok'd these boring character designs"

Fuck Slayer.

He's ruined you.

The game itself is meh but it is still one of the few games I still like to play where the scene isn't deader than a door nail. At least not yet....

the reason it feels meh (I think it's still good) is that it's been out for a while (AFA FG's go) and FG's get old quickly, especially compared to the many other genres.

Of all games, I think fighters have the strongest staying power. Personally I don't think FGs being 'out for awhile' have anything to do with the quality or how "meh" the game is.

Super Turbo still going after 16 years. Not quite as strong as when it was the only game in town, but still going (in some shape or form) none the less. What other video game has had a competitive scene lasting this long? Trick question, no other competitive video game has even existed for as long.

but you know hyperfighting is a much better game because it doesnt have poopermeters

in super turbo, i only play characters without poopermeters. and i call characters with poopermeters, poopooheads

I agree with MissedFRC. AC is the stalest of the GG's. In much the same way that I think T6 is the stalest of all the Tekken's. Both have the most competitive cast they've ever had, but I think they both achieved this through the sacrifice of some of the game's depth.

Having said all that, GGAC is probably one of the best fighters ever, even after taking a small dive with AC.

Yeah, I pretty much agree. The reason the game seems balanced is because every character not named Ky has a magical lulz haymaker that essentially ends the round or renders it very difficult to come back. Many of the characters don't even require any tension to land said magical lulz haymaker. Your chances of landing your character's magical lulz haymaker is relatively high in any given matchup, so the matchups tend to be very close.

It also makes the game very unforgiving of mistakes or getting hit even once. Out of all the tourney viable games, only MvC2 and A3 are more unforgiving, but at least you need meter to be BS in A3. That makes it kinda stale after a while since you start to get sick of watching yourself lose rounds randomly out of the blue off of something completely silly or off of one miss.

That being said, there are very few fighting games that I consider to be better and/or more balanced, so I'll probably keep trolling people in it unless the scene drops dead since I'm such a damn masochist.

Also CE > HF > ST. CE is beautiful.

now i know this is gonna sound LAAAAME and people are gonna call me a weaboo or whatever but i think one of the main reasons AC wasn't as well received over here is because the game requires more patience than the previous games. like, the reason everyone does "so much damage" is because when people can block mixups for more than two seconds, you actually do have to work for your damage in this game. i can see why people would find this kind of system boring, but at the same time i find such a system to be incredibly rewarding, and i would imagine japan thinks similarly.

so i don't really think it's a matter of "sacrificing" depth, rather reallocating it in an area where most people aren't going to be able to utilize it. in many ways this reminds me of the debate of vf4 vs vf5; western players see throwclash as a crutch for weak players, whereas japanese players see it as a good way to keep people moral and teach them to punish correctly.
