  1. 1. Ever have a reunion with GG?

    • YEAH!! Everyday since I never left! The fact that you quit playing is an insult and disgrace!!
    • I can commiserate with you
    • I could care less.. I can't believe I wasted my time reading your post..
    • Not really, I have moved on to BB
    • GG what is that shit? I just was curious what all these forums were below BB

Negativity is never going to spur growth in the scene or help it as a whole... it's not Marvel. The game just has no replacement yet, and doesn't seem to be getting one soon. Instead of pointing out the downsides of a game like BB and spending time wishing for a new GG, it might not be too late just yet to keep some semblance of a scene in the states.

real fucking talk

Stay awesome HM.

I'd love a GG tutorial.

if BB has done anything right its packaging their game with "tutorials"

I was going to go on with my argument of how "top players" act in the us competitive fighting scene but blahblah give everyone the tools and show them how they are used it is up to the individual to build a mansion blahblah

edit: I say go on making that gg tutorial. The skills learned in high level gg can be taken to other games to help you dominate there, there are some stand-out examples of gg players going on to do extremely well in other games; Flash, Marn, Kyohei, Tsujikawa, Shounen, RF etc etc. I'm sure their stroooong fundamentals pertaining to fgs in general helps a lot but these players tend to play the same aggressive/creative style character who puts lots of pressure on the opponent

tl;dr: c.viper doesnt belong in sf and gg tutorials and playing gg might help your bb game

I had written up a post about how I felt BB's downfall is it's failure to create a platform for players to showcase their own style and invention, due to basically being a mix of a Capcom fighting game components (where your options in general are very limited, and depth comes from mastering that with footsies and option selects) with airdasher components thrown in that actually resulted in removing a lot of the depth you find in a Capcom game (not to mention okizeme as a whole), but I realized it would probably fall on deaf ears here.
You can't tell us about it and then not post it =( some of us appreciate in-depth analysis like thaaaat

Problem is that GG has no online, and thus less people are actually committed to learning the game if they have no one to play it with.

If Arc Sys just basically released GGAC+ for the PS3 with netplay and changed nothing else, I'd fucking buy it. And I'm sure many others would too. (Though I do have GGAC+ for PS2 still lol.)

Instead, I'm wondering if there is any way that GG in America can have some sort of growth in player base aside from the obvious new release or throwing more events. While Blazblue as a whole is nowhere near GG at a high level of play in terms of required character knowledge and execution, I don't believe that Blazblue players are any less capable of getting to know a system like GG's and enjoying it thoroughly. GG is a hard game to digest from the start, but it's always going to be easier picking up a fighter once a player is already familiar with the genre- I think the fundamentals of GG can be taught using BB as a building block, as odd as a thought that seems coming from GG. The key here is that there is a genuine interest in the game, which must first come from exposure.

I've thought about making both beginner and advanced short tutorial videos for guilty gear but have always ditched the idea since I figured there just wasn't an audience for it. I'll start bringing ideas for it together again since I still think it could only help. Perhaps there can be a section of dustloop dedicated to presenting particularly interesting high level GG matches, with commentary/pointers making it easier to digest and therefore more interesting and informative for newer players.

You should post that write up. And def do those GG vids.

Yeah, HM, real talk. You should do it, and everyone should support you as much as possible. :thumbu: :thumbu:

Tutorial videos would be very useful. Recently a local BlazBlue player asked me to teach him the basics of GGAC. I agreed to help him learn, but I'm really not the best at explaining game mechanics in an easy to understand concise manner. It would help a great deal to have good tutorial vids for GGAC which I could point him towards to fill in the blanks, and Hellmonkey you certainly know enough about the game to do them well.

Just go for it

Awesome speech that Watches promoted to an article because everyone should see it

So yeah, that happened.

I was pretty sure most GG players moved on to MB, instead of BB...

Yeah, MBAA is the game that most deserves the title "Guilty Gear: Lite"

I'll second that whole heartedly. When you play a Full Moon type character, it feels like you are playing guilty more than any other game ive had the chance to play. F-Aoko and Nero are my bitches.

I realized after commenting on the article that this was an actual post. For the love of redundancy, here's a repost!

I think you make a pretty good point. As the argument goes, Guilty Gear has a much higher level of play required. This is great for people who're already top tier.

The problem with the mentality I seem to see going around is "why do you play X, you should play GG, it's so much more deep and requires so much more skill." The problem with this sort of attitude is that it establishes barriers to entry for people not already in the scene.

A new person reading all the "don't play BB, it doesn't have the depth and skill requirements of GG" is likely going to be highly intimidated by this. Especially if they are also new to fighters.

I think your plan of making intro and intermediate level tutorial videos is a great idea. I feel that is one of the strong points that the BB:CT did when it shipped with the tutorial videos. They weren't just "look combos!" but "okay this is what this char does well and what it does poorly."

If your videos were to be broken down in such a fashion, I believe that people would respond very positively as it helps to break down the barriers to entry I discussed earlier.

I was never really seriously in the GG scene... I did a few tournaments and never placed too horribly high when I did. (Semi finals was my landmark performance once I think) That said, my college days got burned on GGXX like it was no one's business. I didn't research character strats or anything like that.

When I went back a year or two ago to start finally researching, I found the information in the forums difficult to sort through, depending on character.

In short: I think your videos, done well and likely with outside collaboration, could do wonders for the scene. They would lower the perceived entry cost for new players and returning players would have an easy way to refresh their understanding of the game.

Good luck, sir.

I had mainly put BB due to the context and trying to come up with a goofy side poll to the topic. Whether or not that's where people went is up to them..

Glad this gained a large amount of traction. GG can only benefit from those videos Hellmonkey. I know plenty of people who it would greatly help them in at least being able to visualize what frames moves are executed during, what tools they have at their disposal, and what they should avoid doing. Also having it in an easy, relatively user friendly, guide area is always a plus as opposed to searching the forums or internet for videos.

And honestly, helping someone get into fighting games (whether its BB, GG, or whatever) is probably more of the point or effort that people should strive for to help the scene. If someone takes the time to learn one fighting game they already are developing the mentality you need.

The hardest part about learning a fighting game is its basically like learning another language for a beginner; it takes a ridiculous amount of practice to be exceptional. You ideally have to be able to know what normals combo into each other, what normals are special or super cancel-able, whether a move hits low, mid, or high, whether a move is safe on block or not, any unblock-able set-ups the character has, any game specific adjustments or abilities offered, and the list goes on. Also you have to recall this in fractions of a second at times.

You technically need to know this about every character to be able to adapt to every possible situation, which is a daunting task to a newcomer. If you have no one on your level of playing ability, it makes it worse, you'll quickly become discouraged by always losing or not progressing as you feel you should. It just happens. But at least if people are proactive in helping others learn and try to eliminate any presumed elitism they have more of a chance to learn and grow than they do now.

My two cents sorry if its too long and you don't read

Play GG if you want a deep fighting game, and I do mean DEEP.

Play BB if you wanna feel like you're playing a deep fighting game, but you don't actually care whether it's truly deep or not.

Hey guys, am I saying it correctly? :kitty:

Hey everyone. This probably wouldn't mean much coming from me, since I'm pretty much a noob at GG, but I would definitely be willing to start playing it if there were more online matches. Alternately, if they released another version with online, I'd pretty much switch right away. I'm frustrated with how repetitive BB can be, and their funny ideas about game balance, so I'd definitely rather play GG, even if BB is more appealing visually and easier to play. I'm not sure if there's still a community in my city or not, but there probably is. I know there used to be.

Loving/Learning GG as of right now is quite literally a chore. Its a chore to find opponents to play. Its a chore to go to tournaments to only fight 11 some odd people or go half way across the nation to do find denser numbers. Its much more of a chore to train for. Its much more of a chore to defend playing it as opposed to playing anything else. Its a chore figuring out what was the real reason why you lost. Also games like BB and SF allow you to Main X and Sub Y yadda yadda but GG punishes you for doing so. Its a chore to look at, i mean there are so many prettier fighting games out amiright? Im tired of this limited color selection. I wanna pick my Joker color Hazama. I wanna do challenge mode. I wanna play people online. I already know whats going on in GG story...what about BB? Same goddamn music. Excuses are so easy to come by. PS2 is "dead"

PS2 is "dead"

i don't get the argument of "if only it was on ps3/360, THEN i'd play it!"

the ps2 is the best selling console in the history of video games and guilty gear is on it; how much more can you ask for?

can't find ps2 sticks? fuckin MAKE one! padhacking ps1 pcb's is easy shit, just scrape away and solder. or get an mc chtulu. or get someone else to do it for you. fuck.
