  1. 1. Ever have a reunion with GG?

    • YEAH!! Everyday since I never left! The fact that you quit playing is an insult and disgrace!!
    • I can commiserate with you

Lots of games stale when the times change.

Guilty Gear is a great game, but when new things come around, it was bound to diminish, unless there's a gigantic center around it, like in Japan.

Once/if a new GG comes around, no doubt a revival will follow instantly (no exaggeration).

But until then....it's really just a lack of scene interest.

If there was a scene around DBZ Budoukai Tenkaichi/Raging Blast, hell yeah I'd be involved, but due to lack of interest, it's a sad truth.

Well to me, it's always have been the quality of the game rather than how many people they play it.

In here I only have 2 GG players ( one lives 5 minutes and the other 40+ minutes and he rarely plays :P)

and these 2 have been my gameplay friends since XX, and we still play AC and only AC, I mean we tried other games, but nothing can beat GG<3

To each his own I guess.

When it comes to BB and GG, why not both?

It's certainly not outrageous, hell the Jp player that made me want to get competitive with GG plays both, I assume you know of Inoue.

In my opinion the best Order Sol as of recent and he qualified for GG and BB sections of SBO, and he did BB with Arakune.

Guy's like my hero.

I dunno.... 0 is pretty gangster when it comes to the HOS. Just can't find him anymore...

Besides. A lot of people want more GG. Not more BB. Two completely different games.

Inoue looks a lot better than he used to (at least in GG, does he even play BB anymore?). He used to choke a looooooot. I still think 0 is a stronger GG player though.

He still plays BB, he qualified for SBO with Arakune.

I'll need to mosey over to the Order Sol boards and look up 0, he sounds hype.

^yeahhh....

I just really started getting into GG/BB a little over a month ago (I've always been more of an SF player) and while BB is fun, it feels like half a game compared to GG. I always feel like I'm mashing somehow, the same way I feel when i play SF4 compared with 3s or HF. Not to knock anyone's game, cuz I DO like BB, but compared to GG, I just can't get into it as much.

Just picked up a copy of X today and it's a fantastic game. It's cool to see where Testament and Dizzy came from.

I'd totally travel for this game too.

Only a fool would leave Guilty Gear for BlazBlue.

eh for what it's worth i played ct last year a lot more than gg, but mostly because the gg scene here was on a temporary hiatus.

met some cool people, had some fun, learned a few things. like i said, it's who you play with- not necessarily the game you play- that matters.

I've actually been keeping an eye out for it. I dig going back and playing older games in a series when I've come in on one of the later ones and seeing the evolution of them. It gives you more perspective and I feel like it helps me appreciate them more. Might have to go rom hunting though as PSX games are hard to come by these days.

That emulation with online was the best thing to happen to the game where I live.

The PSN online works horrible for the most part, but this works very good so lot's of new people have started learning the game. (Not to mention the BB players going back to it)

You guys act like GG is Jesus Christ and BB is John the Baptist, here...calm down.

If I had to say, BB is anything potentially possible with the NEXT GG, something to look forward to. I'd say there are a lot of renovations in BB that GG absolutely needed or will need when the time comes. And if you're saying BB is dumbed down, you obviously haven't had a clear look at how the system changed and how things are being developed and perfected. Not just the core gameplay, but the gimmicks, all the little mistakes and glitches they're learning about and fixing...all that stuff is making the next GG potentially greater.

Now, I may be an optimist, but I'm not going to put my hopes insanely high for the next GG...I just know Daisuke will NOT disappoint. It's his baby after all.

BB is far from the next GG. Anyone who ever takes GG seriously should know that the true strength of GG lies in it's hardcore-ness. It's not just a fighting game with unrealistic aerial movements (double jump, air dash, etc), but it's a hardcore fighting game with unrealistic aerial movements. It's not just a fighting game where every characters plays quite differently, but it's a hardcore fighting game where every characters plays quite differently.

BB isn't hardcore.

Kudos to that!

I had written up a post about how I felt BB's downfall is it's failure to create a platform for players to showcase their own style and invention, due to basically being a mix of a Capcom fighting game components (where your options in general are very limited, and depth comes from mastering that with footsies and option selects) with airdasher components thrown in that actually resulted in removing a lot of the depth you find in a Capcom game (not to mention okizeme as a whole), but I realized it would probably fall on deaf ears here.

Instead, I'm wondering if there is any way that GG in America can have some sort of growth in player base aside from the obvious new release or throwing more events. While Blazblue as a whole is nowhere near GG at a high level of play in terms of required character knowledge and execution, I don't believe that Blazblue players are any less capable of getting to know a system like GG's and enjoying it thoroughly. GG is a hard game to digest from the start, but it's always going to be easier picking up a fighter once a player is already familiar with the genre- I think the fundamentals of GG can be taught using BB as a building block, as odd as a thought that seems coming from GG. The key here is that there is a genuine interest in the game, which must first come from exposure.

I've thought about making both beginner and advanced short tutorial videos for guilty gear but have always ditched the idea since I figured there just wasn't an audience for it. I'll start bringing ideas for it together again since I still think it could only help. Perhaps there can be a section of dustloop dedicated to presenting particularly interesting high level GG matches, with commentary/pointers making it easier to digest and therefore more interesting and informative for newer players.

Negativity is never going to spur growth in the scene or help it as a whole... it's not Marvel. The game just has no replacement yet, and doesn't seem to be getting one soon. Instead of pointing out the downsides of a game like BB and spending time wishing for a new GG, it might not be too late just yet to keep some semblance of a scene in the states.
