purify Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 I like this game. It has a solid system with an old school feel. North Carolina is really well-known for this game, we have the largest scene and the best players. NGBC was often overlooked because of people seeing Big/Kim shenanigans and the idea that it was "SVC2", but the further you get into it, it becomres more apparent how these concerns are exaggerated. The universal roll can get you out of many nasty situations, throw is great, more characters than you would think can compete. My only real concern with the game is how meter is gained. Try it. It's a fun game. Big/Kim is easy top tier, but easy top tier doesn't always win tournaments, does it? (Slash Ky.)
zer0kage Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 You know in the arcade cab there are also loading times seriously. I still wanna give Asura/Shiki a go for reals but dunno if I can find people to try em on. B spike infinite mwahaa.
Jet Set Dizzy Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 Gamefaqs says a U.S. PS2 port of it is coming 12/04/07 and sometime this month in Europe, dunno how accurate either of those tidbits are. I played the Jap version on PS2 and loadtime was terrible, game controls weren't very tight either, but if anyone knows if that changes, let me know. Yeah i don't know about europe but i've definatley heard about that us release several times. I will definatley give this game a(nother) try, since it has geese in it.
TITANIUM BEAST!!! Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 Asura spike infinite is techrollable loooooool Doesn't matter, that character sucks anyway. Kim/Big/Hotaru FTW.
testament101 Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 Kim/Big/Hotaru FTW. Blake...you know that's one of the reasons Brent gave as to why nobody plays this game...:blue:
purify Posted November 10, 2007 Author Posted November 10, 2007 Woe to all the Kim/Big/Hotarus I'm going to beat next weekend.
CrimsonDisaster Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 When I played this game (not very long) I played Kaede/Kim but then I switched to Kim/Big D:
Necrosis Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 Rock/Geese, Iori/Terry, Kyo/Tung, Mizuchi/NeoDio, Nakoruru/Kim. Too many characters I enjoy playing in this game, haha. Europe port already came out a while back I think, it's the one I have as far as I can tell. USA PS2 port is coming soon indeed, along with the KoFXI USA PS2 port, both budget priced to all hell. I'd totally play Ai/Marco if the tetris blocks weren't so crappy, by the way. Marco is just next on the list of characters I kinda really wanna learn.
F-12 Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 i TEND to mix up between teams of ShishiOh, Asura, Chonrei, Hanzo & Tung. I might pick up Rock seeing as he has some nice corner combos.
AlterGenesis Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 Yuki! Crossing people up with QCB+P in the air and then lightning. Unstoppable. Lulz.
Necrosis Posted November 25, 2007 Posted November 25, 2007 Not to discourage low tier usage, but Yuki is apparently like the worst character in the game. My brother plays him and just does Beast Buster and that slide-in-and-throw-crap-in-your-face move, and for whatever reason I don't just duck and wait until he slides in and sweep him, so he also does not think Yuki is that bad.
Hatred Edge Posted November 25, 2007 Posted November 25, 2007 Yuki has been compared to a Slash Order-Sol without the ability to go past lvl.1. I wanna play him too but man sometimes I wonder....
Hsien_Jo Posted November 25, 2007 Posted November 25, 2007 I played it pretty hard when I found out hotaru (xD) was in it and my friend leo played that and KOF XI pretty hard. I didnt have KOF at the time so I played NGBC to at least catch up in one game, but Ive never had any one to play it with :/. Love the game though. Hotaru's been a fav sense mark of the wolves (found out later shes hi tier in this one but, too late now :p), and ya gotta love ol dirteh (Tung Fu Rue). I dont know what it is about the old dudes in anime/games that still know how to get down....its cool as hell  . I need to get another copy........mine wore down . Gotta pick characters you get hype with or......whats the point lol, for me anyway. *Smacks himself* man the heresy......I forgot Shermie :O, the smexiest grappler character since I dont know, back in KOF when Clark vs. Shermie matches were an everyday thing :p., she's usually with Hotaru, or Tung Fue Rue. I thought it was evil that they gave her a orochi shermie and yashiro move or two, but I love it. I swing with Geese/Terry sometimes, and Kyo and K` for fun and I dont know what the main character guy's name is hes fun to mess around with. Most of the time its Hotaru/Shermie/Tung Fue Rue, in some type of order.
Necrosis Posted November 25, 2007 Posted November 25, 2007 I've heard that if you always had slash cards or whatever they are he'd be maybe like 1 tier higher. :V
Hsien_Jo Posted November 25, 2007 Posted November 25, 2007 I've heard that if you always had slash cards or whatever they are he'd be maybe like 1 tier higher. :V Whats a slash card? Im probably missing something simple
Necrosis Posted November 25, 2007 Posted November 25, 2007 I don't know what the actual move name is, that charge move he has that makes his moves not suck.
AlwaysDizzy Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 I just play Mizuchi and Kaede for the most part now mainly Kaede first to build up meter and lessen the work for Mizuchi when he gets out. But yeah I havent been playing that much lately except when KenmastersX randomly wants to play the but meh. Btw Hey Hsien_Jo.
TITANIUM BEAST!!! Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 Kaede doesn't build meter, he burns it like a mafia boss who burns fifties to light his cigars.
AlterGenesis Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 Well to be honest, my main is Hotaru/Kaede. Yuki is still fun to play though.
AlwaysDizzy Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 Kaede doesn't build meter, he burns it like a mafia boss who burns fifties to light his cigars. Yeah true but for the most part I might hit confirm into super with Keade if I need it but I just save meter most of the time for mizuchi.
purify Posted November 28, 2007 Author Posted November 28, 2007 Hit confirming what? Kaede's meter all goes toward level 2 during qcb C or after command throw. I don't even remember what OROCHI's supers are. There's that throw one right? I seem to remember it being pretty decent, but Kaede's light saber one is sooo strong and versatile.
TITANIUM BEAST!!! Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 Hit confirming what? Kaede's meter all goes toward level 2 during qcb C or after command throw. Standing D or cr.B-cr.A into QCB+A, SC on first hit to C lightsaber. This is his BnB and you are far more likely to hit this than hitting level 2 off of a normal QCB+C or even command grab. Command grab is still hella good though, but hitconfirm off of either of the above combos is more likely and does more damage.
purify Posted November 28, 2007 Author Posted November 28, 2007 I didn't even know that worked, then again I've never played Kaede.
TITANIUM BEAST!!! Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 Yeah, it's not easy though. You can SC the second hit of QCB+A to the A version of lightsaber, but it does significantly less damage than SCing first hit to the C version. The first hit of QCB+A is the only one that gives enough stun to combo the C version, but it must be SCed immediately in order to combo, which is why it's kind of difficult at first.
