I would hope I would be bad at a game I have not played seriously since what... 2008? Or was that 2007 whenever we stopped doing West Toasts here in Cali? Then again I was only playing the game about once a month anyways.

And no, skill level has very little to do with, if anything at all to do with, the state of GG in America now. The game was already starting to die in 2008 (GG removed from Evo, tried to host a side event to prove Evo it was a mistake, but the community failed to come together), and then proved itself as being dead with barely acceptable 100+ people in 2009 and with unhype finals. Let's be real here. GG is dead. The GG forums are completely dead. No one in America takes the game seriously enough to actually travel to major tournaments outside of their region/state. Like I said earlier, aside from some small pockets in certain areas (NorCal, NY... Texas..???), the game is dead in America. It's not even on life support anymore like it was last year. By your logic, anyone saying something like CvS2 or A3 is dead in America automatically makes them bad at the game, even though it's undeniable those games are dead. It's okay though; you can keep believing what you want to believe. Don't let me stop you.

It's not like I'm even hating on the game at all, but it's pretty undeniable that the game isn't even on its last leg anymore.

I dunno man, seems like anywhere I go I can find people who want to play, and that's a lot more than I can say about CvS2. I also see new people getting into the game on a decently regular basis, which is better than I can say for A3. People still hold tournaments for the game. They may not be huge evo-scale, but that doesn't mean the game is dead.

Do I think it's a big and thriving scene? Of course not. That's just denying facts and numbers, and I'm not about to do that.

But "dead" implies a lot more than "shrunk quite a bit since its peak."

In conclusion: Oh SPRTJEWS, you're so cute when you're mad. :keke:

Nah I'm not mad at all. Just callin' a dead game dead like it is. I wonder where this magical fantasy land you live in though, because I certainly don't see any of these things you describe. ;( There's always a small amount of people that keep playing old games (like you can find some CvS2 players in Cali that still play), but if said game is not at majors or has a scene on a major scale, it's as good as dead.

You guys are talking about different things. DW is talking about people who play the game who aren't necessarily organized or actively participating in a community, but are up for GG whenever they can get it. SJ is talking about a large-scale competitive scene, like EVO, where there has to be a large turnout for the game to be recognized in any way. There are people who still play GG, but they realize the scene is dying/dead in America, and are just trying to play as much as possible while they can.

but what do i know i live in canada

scott i don't know about you but my standard of dead ass game is vf. people literally only play it online anymore, with not as much as a side tournament anywhere. gg is still at final round, seasons beatings, etc; this may be more regional than it used to be, but it's still something.

if anything, ac online is going to help boost the majors that still host gg. it may never reach day 1 levels of interest again, but does it really need to?

if you ask me, 3s is more dead than gg right now.

also shut up you fucking women everyone sucks at this game goddamn

There's a joke here somewhere. Someone... Anyone?

Why are we talking about this? Let's just keep playing and organizing events to keep playing. Nothing else really matters.

See some of you tonight!

As long we have will to play the game and have events for it, I say GG will stay alive. VF is dead because not many of us here really can play it decently. 3S is dead because everyone's tired of losing to the same 5-6 characters. And I don't play SSF4/SF4 vanilla because it destroys the progress the series made from OG Super Turbo to 3rd Strike/Alpha 2/3 and how it is, I just can't play it. Our (U.S.) main problem is that we don't have the facilities (arcades) or time to learn like Japan does. It's just how it is. :eng101:

...I want an arcade in Sacramento. NOW.

What are you talking about? Mashing DP/360/Supers/Ultra during block strings/combos is the way of the future.

If that's the future...fuck. I don't want that, I want solid gameplay that rewards common sense and dedication to learning that pays off in the long run. Like...GG

You moving to SF? I live in Daly City, doing a gathering tonight and tomorrow but I usually do them on weekends.

Some of us play SC.

It's disappointing that the weekly events at Eudemonia didn't get new regulars after Install.

Well, login time is 1/3rd the normal price this weekend, maybe that'll help.

Also, I finally got around to getting CS. Challenge Mode is showing me how much I suck at fighting games.

whoa, wtf Rod. I just now realized in your event thread that you live on Woodrow. I grew up on that street, talk about nostalgia bombs.
