West Coast Canada IV: "Ah yes, 'Guilty Gear' - we have already dismissed that game!"

Cannabis inhibits the CB1 and CB2 receptors, which at some point down some cascade suppresses both the inhibitory neurotransmitter, GABA, and the stimulating neurotransmitter, glutamate, which at this point is believed to be the proposed mechanism of euphoria/sluggishness of cannabis. I don't think there's a drug that increases glutamate levels (or at least you don't see it much clinically). Eat lots of Asian food with loads of MSG!

As for countering the effects of GABA, I guess you could try gabapentin. It's a GABA analogue and is usually used to prevent epilepsy and also to prevent neuropathic pain at high doses. It's a funny drug in that it mimics the chemical structure of GABA, but doesn't actually bind to the GABA receptor. At this point, the mechanism of action is a mystery... but clinically it's doing its job effectively and safely. You wouldn't want to use this as a counter to cannabis anyway as it will make you even more out of it.

UFC card: great fights all around.

Research on cannabinoids goes poorly as researchers unable to coherently document experiment proceedings

How stiff are the mats in the octagon? Has anyone ever been KO'd or TKO'd as a result of a suplex/power bomb?

I really don't know what to think about this. I don't know if we'll ever know the truth of it all (Stallman alleges that the Bush administration had a proactive hand in the 9/11 attacks, as opposed to a merely incompetent one), but it doesn't feel like much of a victory at all. Then again, the entire war in Afghanistan is now so far removed from the public eye that it almost isn't happening anymore.

Strange and scary times we live in.

on the other hand, NDP is the official opposition for the first time ever, which I think really gives our government a true "multi-party" feel, as opposed to a decade ago when we were basically two-party.

iggy and duceppe losing their own ridings: hilarious. NDP winning quebec and duceppe resigning: also hilarious. liberals are gonna need a new frontman if they ever want to make it back.

just nuts, i read the news earlier today. osama dies the other night, then both duceppe and ignatieff get gutted in their own ridings, with Darth Harper riding out to a majority and Star Fleet Commander Layton taking the helm as official opposition.

CRAZY TIMES

I'm kind of surprised that BC voted for Conservative so much.

Maybe the opinion was that we already have one brand of Liberals in provincial gov't, and what we get from them is bad enough to not need a double dose of similarly named stuff.

^^it's actually not that rare for provincial politics to skew the opposite way. It implicitly creates the balance that voters are looking for. PC's were running the show for god knows how long in Ontario even when liberals were in power; it's always been more about practicality and pragmatism out east at least. Even the most hard-line right wingers sell out at the drop of a hat, just as the centrist liberals have.

NDP will probably have no choice but to move to more mainstream platforms if they want to maintain current support numbers.

Also you could argue that it's even more of a two-party system right now given how polarizing the NDP v Conservative platforms are. The Conservatives, if they continue their way of running things will probably go all out in the attack and leave no room for parliamentary co-operation. It's scary to think that right-wingers are in power with so much influence but at the same time i suppose things will actually get done.

Remember back when Joe Clark ran the right, and the party was called Progressive Conservative?

And now it's run by a comic book villain, has dropped the (arguably oxymoronic) "Progressive" prefix, and enjoys more power than it has in decades.

The Canadian federal gov't is characterized by villains. The most charismatic BQ leaders were total villains (though Bouchard came off as more noble than the nigh-caricaturish Parizeau did), the most powerful Liberal gov ever was run by the most outwardly gangsterly guy in Chretien. Preston Manning wasn't a villain back when the Reform party actually was a thing, but it was more or less impossible to take him seriously when he talked.

The fact that the Conservatives don't need any approval from any other party to pass things means that we will see the most ridiculous stuff soon. Unless we see a Belinda Stronach flashmob event in the parliament, we're probably in for a few years of lunacy.

I love that the pictures of other goaltenders show them doing goaltender-ly things like kick saves, sprawling, etc. the picture for Hasek has his stick flying in the air, him practically on his back with all his 4 limbs seemingly all going in different directions.

Then again, I have no idea what this guy is trying to do aside from striking a grand pose:
