Truth be told, I was only excited for this reveal just to see how disappointed everyone else will be. And I got what I hoped for in spades, everyone is super angry right now.

I'm in this for rolento so to be honest I'm not really caring on this XD but still seeing people react is fun sometimes.

The minute Karin and Maki were deconfirmed I gave up hope and even though so much evidence pointed to this, I just didn't want it to be true, especially to this degree lol.

Ah well, honestly it just puzzles me how, the move new 100%(?) new characters that are added to SF4, the less Street Fighter they get.

Also if they do a 3rd OVA it should be about Decapre and the rest of the dolls, especially since Juri like destroyed a bunch in her OVA

lol continuity

If they had to do another clone character due to budget reasons, so be it. This is already the largest SF ever, and a new balance patch combined with the four imports from SFxT was already more than most people expected. The real problem here—and the reason fans are going to be justified getting annoyed—is that Capcom hyped the ever-loving hell out of this "new" never-before-playable character for months on end prior to the reveal. Their actions ensured there was no possible way this could be received as anything but a colossal letdown.

I know it was supposed to be funny, but teasing R. Mika at the beginning of the trailer came off as a major dick move. "Yeah, no, we're totally aware which characters you guys really want in these games. We have a list right here of all the most requested names fans have been begging for since we first announced a 4th SF. And now, after months of waiting, we are proud to present... Something no one in the world asked for or wanted! You're welcome."

Not as trollish as the R. Mika costume for Kuma in SFxT.

You know guys, I'm actually learning more about this character and she seems pretty cool. Her teleport actually does seem like an interesting addition to the game and makes me wanna try her out.

I'll have to check this out when I can.

I liked the idea of them having edition select for tournaments. It worked fine for SF2.

You just have to think of each edition as a separate character. So you'd have a ton of different characters and a ton of different matchups, but only a few would be viable (just like every other game) and that would weed out a lot of what matchups you'd need to know.

I always imagined what a BlazBlue edition select would look like. Just thinking of how to manage all the different mechanics is a headache. Suppose you picked CT Nu. Would she use Guard libra? Would her opponent? Same with bursts and all that.

Thing is though, there's no point of the Ultra balance changes if they let edition select rock, almost every single character has a version that was superior before 2012/Ultra. They'll only pick those.
And with older characters not having access to delayed wake-up it'll just be like AE2012 where the game is just vortex and unblockables everywhere, but what's worse with the overpowered older iterations of some characters making a return (vanilla Akuma/Sagat/Seth/Rufus, Super Abel/Honda/Bison, AE Yun/Yang/Fei etc)  most of the cast would be more or less unviable, making the competitive scene's characters very few and many people dropping the game or having to switch to the top tiers just to have a chance to compete.

I wouldn't mind either way coz with edition select I get to use a Version of Vega that actually has a chance and can put on some offense, but I definitely dont think it's a good idea.

When we say SF2, we talking about ST? Because ST's old characters aren't the same as their Super counterparts. If we're talking about HyperSF2, Hyper worked, in that it was fun, but I dunno about serious.

Soooo... I'm too excited for the future GGXrd port. :v:

being serious... what the fuck. my expectations on sf4 have been null since arcade edition, and now this?

good thing capcom has some of the worst, shittiest, most conformist fan base that will eat this shit anyway

SF4's edition select let's you mix and match prior versions of characters.

ST's old/new characters is not like SF4's edition select because ST's old chars are not from a prior version of SF2.

Posted

Oh. I thought the old ones were from prior versions. What are they then? Why are they called old.

Posted

They're superless versions of chars, usually really crazy normals. And they have a minimum age requirement, like alcohol.

What you know about O.Fei handshake cancel to rekkas? Leave that man hanging.

Posted

I looked it up. They ARE from a prior version of SF2. :v: Being superless and with crazy normals is how they were.

Super Turbo had the old characters from Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers.

So SF4 following in its footsteps is not new.

Posted

Whelp, i was told wrong then.

I don't see edition select being standard. Not sure SF4 can handle it. In SF2, everyone can die in one hit, at least.

Edition Select will not be allowed in tournaments for 3 reasons: Vanilla Sagat, Vanilla Akuma, and AE Yun. Those three are the cheapest motherfuckers ever to grace SF4.

-Vanilla Sagat does lolwut damage for little effort and his Tiger Shot recovery is about as ridiculous as ST O. Sagat. In fact, Vanilla Sagat is basically O. Sagat with an Ultra.

-Vanilla Akuma has an infinite that's just linking far standing roundhouse into standing jab over and over again. It's also a blockstun infinite. Also, lolwut damage.

-AE Yun is completely braindead. His Divekick pressure is really stupid and eclipses Rufus' by a wide margin. He also has the infamous quarter-screen hitbox Palm, shared with AE Yang.

There's also SSF4 Guile, whose meter gain off of whiffed Sonic Booms puts Hazama to shame.

I...don't even...

I'm actually kind of hype for the different versions of the characters.

I dont get why people keep mentioning AE Yun, he wasn't even the best character in that version <___>

But yeah the point is that the broken characters that they spent 4 years trying to adjust and fix will all be back with the problems and BS they had before all at once, it'll be a mess.
The only players that would probably be totally ok with it are 1) arent too serious about SF4 and just play it on the side 2) will get access to a broken version of their character(s) if they let this rock.

If you simply love unorganized mindless chaos then I have the game for you, it's called Marvel vs Capcom 3 :)

Ultra Street Fighter 4 now available for PSN and XBLA. $14.99

New online menu makes me sad. No more Bipson, instead it's Oni holding the world in his hands like a Hadoken.

Late reply, but it might have something to do with the developers outright stating that he was deliberately made to be overpowered and they wouldn't be changing that. Of course, they furiously backpedaled on this for AE 2012.

This game is exactly why I retired from Capcom fighters. Unbalanced gameplay with copy and paste characters. Not to mention lack of innovation/progression mechanics wise. Such a shame because I had hope for Street Fighter, but alas....
