Sunnyday Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 Blarg! Read thread! There still cannon, he said they were just Gaidens. Which would mean sidestories! AAH ok. Yeah i was trying to read the whole tread, But i got confuse because a few poeple trip all over the place about that singel quote from Daisuke... Trying to read 20+ pages of tread info and coming up with a proper comment is a pain in the neck But anyway, Thanks for correcting me
Suzaku Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 Oh, hey, an interesting note about Raven, I was checking the Japanese GG2 wikipedia article to see if anything was added, and one little tidbit was. The gold thing over Raven's left eye (hard to make out in the LQ youtube/nico videos, but pretty clear in the second PV on the official site) is actually a gold coin. It's apparantly taken from the Christian custom of placing coins over the eyes of the dead to keep them closed... Which, apart from the obvious allusions, would also mean Raven didn't even bother using his eyes when he fought Sol.
EdgeKun Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 What started as watching the boss fight against Raven, ended up with me looking at all I could, finding OST 2, and reading this thread in it's entirety. T_T That all said, I really like where Overture has gone (story wise). I had my suspicions at first, but after reading this saw that the plot was pretty rad (i like it at least), not to mention (as stated before) it does a better job with less plot holes. (A natural product of less main characters to focus on, as opposed to plot for each of GGX/GGXX's characters) As also mentioned above, this one really allowed more of a plotline to be weaved (as opposed to GGXX's story mode. "WE MUST KUNG FU FIGHT!"), and it shows. Maybe I also just like the idea that the new plot has the Advent Children thing going on with a new potential Justice showing up. I am more than a bit of a Justice fanboy. ^^; (Not to mention possibly the most epic final battle I've ever seen in a video game. ;_; ) I agree that the art and music (as always) are really evolving as the series tends to do. I like the new character designs, and while the first GG2 OST had me feeling down, the 2nd OST has well more than made up for it. I've thoroughly enjoyed every song on that damn disc. (With Holy Orders and Diva being the definite favorites) Definitely ordering that CD once I get more monies this term. ^^; I'm also hoping for more of an art book than just those 13 pages. ;o; Last, I'm not quite sure what to think of the strategy element. That aside though, the 1 v 1 (or 3 v 1 for mission 18. ;D ) matches look really fun. If this ever does get localized, it's definitely getting a chance + playthrough.

Fugue Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 Can someone explain what Master VS Master means? Is it just one character that isn't major versus another? Or is it like you controlling your minions directly or something? I'm fairly certain I've heard the Master vs. Master, Mirror Match, and Valentine superiority themes in a few videos, so what I'm guessing is that what song plays depends on the situation. The Vs. and Superiority themes seem to be played when two Masters come into close proximity during multiplayer. Probably, if it's a mirror match, Misadventure is used. If it's Sol vs Ky or Ky vs Sin, The Re-Coming or Communication are used, respectively. If neither Master has a major advantage over the other (whether in Mana, Master health, Servant numbers, or Master Ghost health, I don't know), The Fate Broke Down is used. And if one Master is at a clear advantage, that Master's theme will be used.
piyo Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 Dengeki Maou Scans http://www.megaupload.com/?d=7VAGHOH0 Character file of Guilty Gear 2 Enjoy:)
theria Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 ...That Man also had a hand in making the Backyard (along with Frederick) and it's said that Valentine IS a resident of the Backyard, making her have some connection there. Neither The Man nor Frederick, or anyone for that matter, have a hand in "creating" the Backyard. The Backyard simply exists, as a higher-dimensional "world" that has a very strong influence (if not flat-out capability) of writing, supporting, re-writing the "laws" of our world (Guilty Gear world). The process of magic (houriki) borrows that malleability. Of course, that is all the theory behind how the unlimited energy works and the name "Backyard" was the one the researchers eventually came up or stuck with. Two questions that (as far as I know) have not been clarified regarding what comes up relating to the Backyard in Overture is (1) what does it mean to be a "resident" of the Backyard and (2) what exactly is the power of Backyard that some people have. For (1), Izuna introduces himself as a resident, both in game and in his character profile, though I don't think Yomotsu Hirasaka (his home/stage) is actually in the Backyard, seems to be a wholly different dimension. Valentine is identified as a resident, by Dr. Paradigm if I recall correctly. But even Paradigm's theories had not yet quantified a means to travel to (and from) the Backyard though obviously, The Man (and Raven) somehow have managed that. Both Valentine and Sol, the latter per Raven, have attained the power of the Backyard. This is obviously not simply the ability to use magic/houriki. It may deal with that Soul Sinker concept Sol kept muttering about back in Mission 2 I think it was, and their abilities to manifest Servants directly from their power. In Campaign Mode, they are the only two capable of doing this. Now how or why Doctor Paradigm knows of this (and supposedly told Izuna) is not entirely clear. And no, just because there was a Sol VS DP Master battle in Campaign Mode I do not think DP was using the same process of "summoning". That was just him calling his GEAR buddies IMO.
theria Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 Dengeki Maou Scans Character file of Guilty Gear 2 Enjoy:) Domo, piyo. Sol: The drafting comments indicate that Sol's sword (not directly referred to as FuuEnKen) actually has "levels" and it is in Level 4 when he goes to that particular Dragon Install mode. And yes, that is supposed to be a glimpse of his actual GEAR form. Sin: Never realized but apparently, his clothes (and flag-staff?!?) are RIOT brand. Still no mention as to why he wears the eye-patch. Ky: I was right, I would have died laughing. Thank you the powers that be that they did NOT go with that particular earlier design version of Ky. DP: Dr. Paradigm's early design was also hilarious, still having (necessitating?) the need for a water bowl. Raven: Raven's description does include that he is one of three who closely serve The Man. So most likely, it is still I-NO and pointy-hat-guy-whose-fashion-The-Man-stole.
Zazz Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 Gear-Sol's face from the front shows his five eyes(?) make the sign of the Gears. neat. Still no mention as to why he wears the eye-patch. i thought it was to cover up his Gear mark. at least that's what i heard.
eien_tsubasa XD Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 the spike through the head . . . is that RAVEN? :scared: oh snap! that WAS Raven! Finally! then again, maybe... dammit! now i'm confused!
Sephi_hatu Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 Interesting! Raven huh? You can add LIVE to ENUI FREE and HOPE. Raven seems to have that theme about him. The coin covering his eye seems to imply that hes half dead, and that would make sense given hes plastered up and down with LIVE (his horn and his chest).
EdgeKun Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 Dengeki Maou Scans http://www.megaupload.com/?d=7VAGHOH0 Character file of Guilty Gear 2 Enjoy:) Aww. Not quite 13 pages, but I will definitely take what I can get. Thanks a lot for the link! ^^ Mmmm. Delicious Art Bookness.
Suzaku Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Interesting! Raven huh? You can add LIVE to ENUI FREE and HOPE. Raven seems to have that theme about him. The coin covering his eye seems to imply that hes half dead, and that would make sense given hes plastered up and down with LIVE (his horn and his chest). Well, he doesn't quite fall in with the Sacred Order group; the Sacred Order apparantly has a custom where it's members find a word that they choose to live by and inscribe it on their belt buckles, Ky's being "HOPE", Sol's being "FREE", and another member from Lightning the Argent having, as I recall, "FAITH". I'm not sure if I'd qualify Raven as being "half dead", exactly, as Sol describes him as "undying", (I believe, "The undying, diseased Raven", though I'm not entirely sure). I'd almost describe him more as being trapped between life and death. His body is essentially impervious to harm, and even if it's destroyed, it will regenerate; he's also almost completely unable to experience any sensation, except perhaps for extremes of emotion and pain. He also no longer remembers how old he is (probably due to time travel and such), and so apart from following That Man, his main prerogative seems to be simply proving that he's actually alive, be it by jamming needles through his body or taunting Sol so he can feel a full-power Tyrant Rave. Hence, "LIVE". Anyway, I'm looking forward to getting a look at these scans, and I hope we get even more design works in the future.
Hatred Edge Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Wait, Raven encourages Sol to hit him with a full power Tyrant Rave? And what's a full power Tyrant Rave? Tyrant Rave ver. Omega? From what I've seen of Tyrant Rave in Overture, it looks like Sol is doing ver.B but a bit smaller.
Raging Tofu Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Still no mention as to why he wears the eye-patch. i thought it was to cover up his Gear mark. at least that's what i heard. From my understanding of Gears, that's an incorrect assumption. Take a look at the Gears we do know from the X-verse games- Sol, Justice, Testament and Dizzy. Sol and Justice were branded with the Gear mark at their "creation" to let the world know what they were (hence, why Sol hides his via his Limiter) whereas Testament (human who was converted to a Gear) and Dizzy (child of a Gear) do not have such marks. So, I think it's safe to assume that for Overture, Sin (child of a Gear) would not have a Gear mark there. Personally, I think it hides something much more "telling" as far as his Gear genes are concerned. Or it could just be a really awesome piece of Black Tech. *shrugs* Who knows? That's just my two cents... also- lol factor- does anyone else find it interestingly amusing that Sin, who wears an eye patch, fights with a flag? Depth perception much? XD
JinSaotome Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 I think he should have a skull+cross bones on the flag and be Pirate Sin, YARRRRGH
Sytha Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Dude. Izuna was a Cat-Girl. I could Stomach Ky with a Beard. If it meant having a Cat Girl.

Ok Testament is a bit of a problem, but Dizzy's Gear Mark appears on the ring that floats around her
theria Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 ...another member from Lightning the Argent having, as I recall, "FAITH". Actually, the word was "SACRIFICE". He was a member of the HouShiEn (Magic Support) division that apparently provided support such as recovery, defense, as well as covering the retreat of other divisions.
Suzaku Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 So, I don't think the stuff is visible in Raven's final design, but he has some phrases in greek (actually, standard windows Symbol font) on a couple of his character design sheets. The cross on his mask says, I believe, "oreno", "yutaka", "terada", and "nawoittemiro". I'm not good at piecing Japanese together, especially with no kanji to go by. The other one, which is apparantly on the Raven emblem on his chest, is "And mortal life shall cease, a life of joy and peace", which are lyrics from Amazing Grace.
rallamajoop Posted January 4, 2008 Author Posted January 4, 2008 o_o Wow, that's a lot of posts while I haven't been around. Question: Can anyone tell me exactly where this thing about the GGX series being declared a Gaiden came from? They always seemed to be ignoring the GGX series in the GG2 promotion and I remember a lot of random crap about 'the first true sequel' being thrown around early on, but that doesn't add up to the same thing. Like the Overture story or hate it, I'm having great trouble finding any way it connects to events from the original Guilty Gear. If anything, it'd probably work better to lump the first GG in with the X games and assume the Overture timeline went off on a tangent even before that. >.>
